One last thing before I wrap up this post:

Our friends at Royal Canin are having an event at the Tacoma Petsmart this Saturday (Oct 17th) from 12 to 4 PM. There will a cat and dog breed expert on hand to talk about pet nutrition and the specific needs of each breed. I'l be there too! My plan is to arrive around 1 PM.  Please come on by and say hello if you're in the neighborhood!

If you're not in our area, similar events are being held all over the country. You can visit HERE to learn more about the events and you can also download a $5 Royal Canin coupon for their breed-specific foods.

TankPoofTail
Hello Harlan!

Hello Nelson!

Feb_Lovjoys_Hammock1
It's so good to see you both again!

The Lovejoys celebrated their first birthday on Valentines Day.

Papa Charles, who is always been great about documenting their development, took these pictures of the boys at one year. He says they're doing really great. They're romping, playing, poofing their tails, and living the good life. He also says they getting spoiled rotten. Nice work, Charles and family!

Nelson and Harlan are such handsome boys. And giant boys too!

Thanks for sharing, Charles. And thanks to the whole family for giving them such a quality life !

As Promised, New Harlan and Nelson Pics

FIRST of all, I wanted to thank ALL OFF YOU who made donations in response to THIS post. I've heard from the HS there were many donations made (food and monetary as well). I know from your comments and emails that lots of donations were made to your own local shelters too. Thank you, all you wonderfully, wonderful folks out there!! Your generosity is so touching.

So keeping our end of the bargain, here are some pics of the Lovejoy boys, Nelson and Harlan in their new home. Thank you Charles (proud papa to Nelson and Harlan) for sharing your lovely pictures. And thanks too for suggesting the donation clause.

Give a Little, Get a Lotta Lovejoy

DSC_1837

This was a weekend filled with goodbyes. Harlan and Nelson left Saturday morning. Neville and Tressa left Sunday. It wasn't easy parting ways with these kittens. But it never is, of course.

We couldn't be happier with the families we found for The Lovejoys. I think if you met them, you would all approve too.

Harlan and Nelson's Pa has agreed to sign a contract and continue to provide pics of the boys as they grow under one condition (yes, he added a claws clause to the contract). You all have to make a food donation to the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society's emergency food bank OR your own local shelter's food bank.

It's easy to do. Just pick up a few extra cans, or a case or a bag when you're at the store next, and drop them off at the shelter. Or, as Kat Box Janitor suggested, find a grocery store that delivers, place and order and have them send it to the shelter.

After you made a donation, let us know by leaving a comment on THIS post.

If everyone donated just a little bit, think of all the animals we could help together!

Once we see the donations roll in,, the pictures of Harlan and Nelson as they grow up will be released to the world.

Safeway will deliver (with a $50 minimum) to the Tacoma/Pierce county Humane Society. You can order online here.

A Very Quiet Day

Harlan_in_a_ball

Sure is quiet around here today. I took the Lovejoys into the HS bright and early this morning. Yes, it's time for the snippity-snip of their bitty bits.

I had just taken them in yesterday for shots, blood draws and micro-chipping. They slept a lot yesterday afternoon and evening. This morning they woke up extra springy.

They all dashed out of the room, looking for their breakfast. When they discovered there was none, they went straight on to their morning play session.

Nelson was taking on Charlene. Tressa and Neville had a wad of paper cornered in the dining room. Harlan was off in his own little world, pouncing on something invisible.

I interrupted their antics, got them suited up in their ID collars, put them into the kitty-carrier, and off we went to the HS.

They were mad to be inside that tight space while still in their morning romp mode and were scratching at the door to get out. After a few blocks, they settled down and decided it might be more effective to stare at me with their big blinking kitty eyes instead. It didn't get them released from their carrier, but it got them a few scritches at the stoplights along the way.

So yes folks, it's time. Both pairs of Lovejoys will be departing this weekend.

Ain't That Just a Kick in the Head

Ain't that just a kick in the head.
Poor Nelson. There he was, just minding his on business, taking his morning nap with Tressa and Harlan. Neville was WIDE awake and decided that he would rile up the pile and try to find a wresting partner. He took on Harlan , but Nelson got the worst of it.

Boys, Bellies, Backsides

Lovejoy Boys from Above
I thought I'd post an aerial shot of the Lovejoys Boys so you can see the identifying marks on their backsides.

From left to right, it's Neville, Harlan and Nelson.
You can see Harlan has the most orange, Neville the least, and Nelson has a medium amount.

I love their shapes. I'm not exactly sure how kittens grow, but it seems that they grow rounder, then longer, then taller, then rounder again. Right now, they're in a round phase and they look like stubby little bowling pins.

Brothers and Baths

DSC_1051

Neville loves giving the bath, Nelson loves getting it. Harlan loves his brothers dearly, but can bathe himself, thank you.
