The Most Popular Posts Part TWO!

#40 Give Us a Big High-Five Hubie!

We've had many happy moments during our years of fundraising, but that first time when we hit the big $20 Squillion goal, well, that was pretty awesome.

#39  Happy Birthday Butterbean!

Another Butterbean birthday made the list! For her 4th, I put together a little Bean retrospective movie. I haven't watched this in a long time, so for me, it was really sweet to go back and look at these pictures from her first four years. Gosh, I love that girl.

#38  A Big Batch of Bean and Friends

More Bean on the list! Here's a collection of some of the sweet moments she's shared with the babies.  The last picture in the post shows Bean with our very first batch of foster kittens. You can see she took to her role as foster mom right away.

This image below just melts me. The kitten in the picture is one of the Mayfields, but I couldn't tell you which one.

Goodbye Gibsons Pt 2

DSC_0765

Mikala and family were sent our way by one of my friends from the Seattle art community.

I always love it when friends send people our way.  Our friends know how important finding wonderful families for our kittens is to us,  so they only send the best people our way.  Mikala and family were no exception.

Mikala's son, Simon,  just celebrated a birthday.  For his birthday,  he was promised a pair of kittens.

When they came down to meet the Gibsons, Pheona and Sherman had already been picked, so their choices were between Cedric, Charles, and Rutherford.

With these adorable selections, this choice wasn't easy.

In fact, they were completely torn, and during their visit, they went back and forth many times discussing who might be the best pair for them.  A decision was made, and Charles and Cedric were their choices.

But on the car ride home, they discussed it a little further.  They even discussed the idea of adopting all three.  In the end, Simon decided that his birthday kittens should be Cedric and Rutherford.  Mikala sent me a note when they returned home letting me know of their change in plans.

Cedric and Rutherford left this Saturday afternoon and now are all settled into their new home, and I'm sure, making a certain young man and his family quite happy.

Happy Birthday, Simon!    Happy Adoption Day, Cedric and Rutherford!

Leave it to Rutherford

Untitled

The kittens were in the middle of their post-breakfast rumble, and were running hard and playing wild in the living room.

Cedric and Rutherford were involved in a round of "King of the Scratching Post" and I stood about three feet away from this game,  with a bowl of cereal and raspberries in my hands.  I was still a little sleepy, and although I was looking in their direction, I wasn't entirely focused on the two.

I'm not sure what possessed him to do so, but all of a sudden, Rutherford launched his floofy orange self from the top of the post.    He was airborne and heading in my direction.  My hands were full, so there was nothing to do but to stand there and wait to see where he landed.

Well, he landed on me.   Actually, I should say, he tried to land on me.

He sunk his tiny, razor-sharp toenails through my paper-thin jammies and into my skin. He slid down,  leaving several rows of scratches on my stomach.  Once he released his grip, he dropped to the ground like a rock.

Of course when all of this was happening, cereal, raspberries, and milk were flying.  I managed to keep a grip on the bowl, but the mess spread far.  Rutherford and Cedric got splashed, but the others stayed clean.  The rug saw the worst of it.

Everyone scrambled to lap up the milk, but I grabbed them all, and put them in their room while I cleaned up the mess,

No, there are no photographs to document this scene, but there may be some scars.

Live From the IBKC FUNdraisng HQ: It's a Gas!

Maybe having hot wings for lunch wasn't such a good idea, Rutherford.  Burp.

DSC_0042

I know, burp.  I was just thinking the same thing myself.  Burp.

DSC_0041

You cover the phones, I'll go get us some Tums.  Burp.

Burp.

Hmmm.   Until Sherman returns, maybe we should try making our donations online.

A Message from the Marmies

Our marmies have something to say, and our friend Cynthia helped organize their thoughts into a wonderful little poem.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled blog entries for this Public Service Announcement.

There’s a powerful army of three little marmies˟
They’re worried and on edge with anxiety.
They have a message to heed on a critical need
For a great cause -- the Humane Society.

Not every kitten has an owner who’s smitten
Some cats don’t have owners at all.
Cats need care, they need petting – let’s not leave out the “vetting”
That’s why marmies are answering the call.

They’re posting appeals that send you head-over-heels
Between baths from Charlene and cavorting.
They’re asking for cash -- not much -- just a dash
For needy felines who need some supporting.

They’re waiting at home and they’re manning the phones
Three orange tigers on a mighty team.
The work that they do inspires me and you
To make loving homes for all more than a dream.

If you care about cats (and they’re certain of that)
Then you’ll join these fine lads in their quest.
Seniors?  Fosters?  Name your fave – they’ll be grateful that you gave
And many dear creatures will be blessed.

Charles, Sherman, Ruddy:  pick a guy, he’ll be your buddy
They’re a picture of fine fettle and fitness.
Thanks to the H.S., and its donors’ largess
These three marmies are here to bear witness.

˟ “marmalade” or “marmy” is a descriptive term of endearment for a red or orange tabby.

Thank you, Cynthia, for another awesome poetry piece!   You're making my job easier, and I appreciate that so much!

LIVE from The IBKC FUNdrasing Headquarters - LUNCH BREAK!

I'm thinking it's lunch time.   You hungry, Sherman?

DSC_0104

Wanna order a pizza?

DSC_0055

I don't think we're supposed to do that.   These phones are to be used  for incoming calls only.

DSC_0108

But I am getting kind of hungry too.   And pizza sounds pretty good.

DSC_0107

Hi, I would like to have a pizza delivered.

DSC_0143

Extra large, thick crust,  cheese and  double anchovies.  Yes, you heard me right, DOUBLE anchovies.

OH, just a minute, let me ask...

Rutherford?  Do you want any Hot Wings?

DSC_0147

It looks like they're taking their lunch break.   While they're away, it might be best if you made your donations online.

And speaking of feeding kitties.   A twenty dollar donation can buy a case of wet food for the shelter and provide lunch for the stray cats in the cattery.

How about we fill some kitty bellies!

To make your tax-deductible donation, please visit our FUNdraising page!

Thanks, friends.  We're getting there.

Hang On, Rutherford! We're Getting There!!

It's been a busy morning.  It's only 7:30, but I've already scaled  the drapes, burrowed in a bin of socks,  ran laps in the living room, and pounced on Cedric's head (twice).

I'm winding down, I'm relaxing, and I'm thinking about my morning nap.

DSC_0965

Pardon me for me a moment. YEawwwwwnn.

 DSC_0958

So, I just looked at our total, and noticed how we're creeping up on FIFTY Squillion. Just $1325 and we're there!!

DSC_0985

 YAY!

Oh, excuse me again, I'm getting very tired.  YeeeeeAAAWWwnnnnn.

 DSC_0992

Zzzzz...

DSC_0989

I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open.

DSC_0985

Before I nod off, more than anything, I'm hoping I'll see us hit the $50 Squillion mark.

But I can't hold on much longer.

DSC_0972

Because when we kittens get tired,  we fade fast.

DSC_0968

If you we're thinking about making a donation, maybe you could do it now?  If I saw $50 Squillion, my dreams sure would be sweet ones.

DSC_0965

Hurry please.

Hang on, Rutherford!  We're getting close!!

Paws Off, Please.

Hey, Rutherford.  I know Bean's whiskers are impressive, but I really wouldn't mess with them.

DSC_0888

Seriously.  She doesn't like to have her whiskers touched.

DSC_0887

They're very sensitive.     Paws off, please.

An Important Message from Rutherford "Ruddy" Gibson

Excuuuuuuuse me?     May I please have you attention for just one moment?

 DSC_0895

My name is Rutherford "Ruddy" Gibson, and I have  something important to share with you today.

  DSC_0890

It's the 5th of July, which is the busiest day of the year at animal shelters around the country. You see, on the 4th,  so many animals get scared from the noise and chaos of the holiday and end up running off, and get separated from their families.    On the 5th, these lost pets are turned into the shelter by the folks that find them.

Frankly, it breaks my heart to think of the stress these pets and their families are experiencing.

DSC_0897

I'm so grateful for the shelter employees who work so hard to help reunite pets with their owners.

So today, maybe you could make a donation in honor of these hard working folks who help bring these families back together.

Thank you.   I'll be here waiting for your call.

Thank you SO much.
