Nick Got Picked!

DSC_0657

A few years ago, Esther adopted Casper, a friendly, floofy white kitty, from the Humane Society. He's been the perfect cat, but recently he's been showing signs that he's a little bored, and has put on a little weight too, so Esther thought he might be in need of a little friend to help exercise him and keep him entertained.   He lives with two dogs, a Corgie and a Standard Poodle, and they get along great, but nothing beats a kitty friend, so Esther reached out to me.

We had her over for a meet-and-greet and we spent some time chatting and she got to know the four Alexanders that were available.  Nick's sweet and easy personality seemed like it would mesh best with Casper, and Esther officially picked Nick.

She had planned to take introductions slow and ease Nick into Casper's life, but Nick was so curious to explore and meet his brother, so Esther let them go nose-to-nose on the first day. Casper was a little surprised at first, but things were not tense -- no hissing or puffing. They're doing great now and they both seem very happy to have each other.  The dogs will be a bigger adjustment for Nick, so Esther is taking those introductions slow.

You'll be happy to know that Esther promises to send us updates on Nick and his fabulous coat -- I told her that we are all curious to see how he looks as he grows.

Congratulations on this sweet addition to you family, Esther!  We're so happy for you, all your critters, and especially Nick, of course!

Joseph Has Something to Say

DSC_0795

It is much, much quieter than it was just a few days ago --- our Alexanders started trickling out the door. But before we started saying our goodbyes, I got a few photos of the whole gang hanging out in the guest room.  Goodness, they are adorable, aren't they?  They are such sweet and loving creatures --- I'm so grateful for the time we've had getting to know them.

I'm trying to write this post and he keeps tap dancing on my keyboard!   /'/'///////////////////;;/;////;kkll;

So, yes, Joseph and Henry are still with us but things are looking good. I never share suiter or adoption details until all deals are sealed, so that's all I've got on that topic today.  ][[[[[[;][[[[[[][;;;;;;;;]ll]]l]ll]llllllllll
I will reveal more when I can, although Joseph may have just let a few secrets slip if there are any of you who can crack the kitten code!

Have a great Monday, everyone!

As I mentioned last week, we still have one more auction item left to list as part of our fundraiser -- a beautiful quilt stitched by our friends Susan and Katherine.  As soon as it goes "live" on eBay I'll let you know, so do stay close!

Thanks! See you in a bit.

An Alexander Family Portrait --- WITH BEAN!

DSC_0469

We're having a pretty warm week around here.  Our guest room is usually blocked off for the kittens, but because it's one of the cooler spots in the house,  we've had the door open and are allowing them to enter this space.

All the cats, big and small, have been congregating in the room and yesterday I was so happy to capture an Alexander family portrait with their mentor, Bean.  I've attempted similar shots many times over the years without success. It's challenging to get a large litter of kittens settled in for a picture, and adding a big cat in the mix is next to impossible.  Thankfully, it worked yesterday!

Notice anything different about the kittens? See a couple of shaved bellies? Yep. They went in this week and everyone got snipped.  Someone always asks about why boys have shaved bellies -- our shelter does a spay/neuter tattoo on the belly of every altered kitten, so all of our babies return from surgery day with a bald little tummy.

So, yes. Our Alexander chapter will be closing soon!  It's a good thing - these kittens are ripe.

Business in Front. Party in Back!

DSC_0017

The other day in our comments, someone asked about Nick's crazy coat.  For a stretch it did seem like he was starting to grow into it  but now it seems his coat has had a growth spurt!

From the front, he looks like just a regular shorthaired cat, but there's a whole lot of crazy happening on the other side.

Almost Too Big for the Bed

DSC_9869`

Squish together, kittens! You're starting to spill over the edges! Hang on with those mitts!

Yes, these Alexanders of ours are getting big and it won't be too much longer before they're ready for the ole snippity-snip.  We don't have places for all of them yet, so if you're looking for a kitten love (or a pair of kitten loves) send me an email, introduce yourself, and tell me about the life you would offer an Alexander (or two). Or if you know of anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area who's in the market, please send them our way.  Thanks!
