Walking the Walk!

If your ears were burning Saturday morning, it was because we were talking about you and how fabulous you are.  Everyone was pretty impressed with this community of ours and all that money we raised together! Shelter staff was absolutely GIDDY about it. I still am too, and kind of can't believe that given the number of days we had to make it happen, we hit that goal and then some!

We still have some money trickling in too, and a small auction that will start today. Also, I usually put up a button so you can donate via Paypal, which some of you prefer, but I totally forgot to do that earlier.  I just put it up this morning and it will be up there for a couple of days, if you would like to make a donation this way.  When you make a donation through Paypal, it won't be reflected in the Firstgivng total, but it will counted when I tally everything up.

The weather was slightly overcast and not too hot, which was pretty perfect weather for the event. The turnout was great. There were thousands of humans and dogs, and two cats.

Wylla got a little fussy in the car on the way to the park, which made worry that she would do the same at Dog-A-Thon, but really, she did really great.

When we first got there, we got out of the car and gave her a moment to soak it all in before entering Dog Central.

We walked around with Wylla riding on Craig's shoulders, and checked out the vendors first. Wylla remained calm as we navigated through the sea of dogs. We heard "Is that a cat?" many, many times.

This cute little guy stopped to take her photo.

We stopped at the Pet Doctor's booth and Wylla charmed the staff. They were trimming nails and collecting donations for the shelter, so we took advantage of this.  They were impressed with how calm she was - I was too! There she was in a booth in the middle of all this madness, with giant dogs just a few feet away,  getting her nails trimmed by strangers.  That cat is unflappable!

We stopped by the Northwest Spay and Neuter Center booth to say hello to our friends Cora and Ninja Bob.

Bob was too busy to say hello.

But when we stopped by later,  he was available for his fans.

He had just finished winning the costume contest and wanted everyone to see his medal.  We didn't want to burst his bubble, but he WAS the only cat that entered.  He dressed as a shark.

Cora had made some cute cat crafts and was selling them to raise funds for the center.

I love her kitty cozies!

We walked with a pretty large group this year. We were joined by several staff members, volunteers, friends, and the IBKC FUNdraising team.  I think there were at least a dozen in our pack.

Blixa joined us again this year with her humans, Jim and Shana.

And Zelda (Zoubi) Lamm's mom and dad joined us too!  Here's mama Lynn carrying Wylla.  She LOVES Wylla and gets so happy she gets teary when she has a chance  to hold her.  Wylla is always comfortable in her arms.

And of course there were dogs of all shapes, sizes, colors, patterns and breeds  on the walk.

We stayed for a few hours, and when Wylla was ready to go, we left.

We walked proud because of you!  Thank you for contributing to this special day!

I'll be back to let you know when our last little auction goes up today.  Tomorrow, I'll be revealing our totals, giving away prizes and sharing a big, gushing thank you note to you and some very special people.

Opal, Ellis, Auctions, Art

Each year during our FUNdraiser, we get a visit from Opal the human (not Opal the kitten) and little brother Ellis.   They come by to say hello to the kittens, and they bring along a donation to our fundraiser.  Sometimes it comes from their very own piggy banks, sometimes they collect donations from others.

This year, Opal sold custom cat collage portraits to her friends and family, and raised over $30 for the Humane Society cats and kittens.

She also made and sold valentines, cards and bookmarks at two craft sales with her pal Lola, and they raised over $100 together.

This year, Opal and Ellis came with a  donation of a  remarkable $146.03!

But they're not stopping there!  Opal and Ellis made a big batch of adorable paper kitties, and today, the next fifty people who make a donation of $10 or more will receive one kitty from Opal or Ellis!

How it works: pay a visit to our FUNdraising page and make your donation of $10 or more.  Once you're done, send us an EMAIL with your snail mail address,  in the subject line write "Opal and Ellis", and we'll send you an original piece of kitty art! They colored some of the kitties to resemble Bean, Wylla, and the Kibblesmiths.  Others come from their imagination.  Each kitty is unique, adorable, and some are even signed on the back!

Thank you for being so generous, Opal, Ellis, and Lola!  Your big hearts and giving ways are inspiring!

And thanks for coming over to say "hi" to the Kibblesmiths.  I hope you enjoyed your visit!

BUT WAIT!  There's more!!!

I've got a couple of items that we'll be auctioning off today.  Craig's created another fabulous watercolor painting of Bean that I'll be posting on Ebay.

DSC_0844

And our dear friend Cora crocheted these adorable Bean and Wylla cup cozies, which I'll post at the same time.  I may just have to bid on these myself.

  DSC_0847

These two auctions will start this morning, and run 24 hours.  I will post when they go live, so you can hop on over there and bid.

Did you happen to notice how close we are getting to our $100,000?   Thanks to Cynthia's moving video and huge match, we were able to roll past $95,000!   It was a great day, and we raised over $10,000 for the new foster room and kitten head-start program!!!

We are getting SO close now!  In fact, I think we'll hit that huge goal today!!

Our awesome anonymous donor has offered up a $2500 match!  For every dollar we donate, she'll donate the same, until we reach the $2500 cap.   And  if we meet that, we will meet our goal!!!!

The match runs until 3:00 PM, which is a little earlier than we normally end our matches, but I wanted to be sure that we end it early so our friends on the east coast can see it happen, and celebrate with us!

OH, this is going to be an exciting day!

Kitty art!
Awesome match!
Auctions!
And more alumni updates!!!

Thank you so much.  I appreciate you and all this support!  This community is so incredible, and every day you blow my mind.  LOVE YOU!

Quiet Times

DSC_0358

Well, for the next couple of weeks, it's going to be a little quiet on the blog. I'm doing a bit of traveling the last two weeks of January, so we won't be getting any kittens right away. Actually, there really aren't any kittens to foster anyway, so it's a good time to get out of town.

I've decided not to take my laptop with, but if I have any opportunity to post, I will.

I'm not leaving yet, so I'll making a few more posts before I hit the road.

Thanks to all you faithful folks who stick around during the quieter times!

A Little More Auction Action!

Charlene Butterbean Watercolor

Charlene Butterbean Watercolor

Craig, my dear, sweet, talented, husband was kind enough to paint and donate a couple of amazing little watercolor paintings of Ms Bean to be auctioned off for our fundraiser.

They are as sweet as can be, and so fabulous. It sort of kills me that we can't keep them.

If you would like to find out more about these paintings and place a bid on either (or both!!) pieces click HERE and HERE. The auctions ends in three days.

DSC_0833

We're also auctioning off an AUTOGRAPHED copy of this awesome book, To the Rescue - Found Dogs with a Mission by Elsie Lufkin. To find out more about this book and place a bid, please click HERE.

Thanks! Happy bidding!!!

Gotta Love a Three-Day Weekend

DSC_0053

It was a busy weekend. We did lots of entertaining, and the Anderson-Ericksons got to meet a lot of our friends. The kittens were sweet, charming and confident and were the life of all the parties we hosted. Two of them (and I'm not telling who yet) staked their claim on their parents! Nice work, kitties!

Monday was all about relaxing. It was cold outside and we were all exhausted, so the better part of the day was spent on the couch.

The Bean got to mingle with the babies. I've got lots of pics of the introductions and I'll share those with you soon.

I hope you all had a lovely three-day weekend too!

Lordy, Lordy, Craig is Forty!!

That's right, my dear, sweet, handsome, kitten-lovin' husband is 40 today!

Happy Birthday, Craig. You truly are the best, and not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for you.
