A Henrietta and Evelyn Update!

Today I'm packing for my travels, and we'll start sharing some IBKC Alumni updates!   I've got some good ones, and I think you're all going to enjoy catching up with these kittens.

First off, we've got Henrietta and Evelyn Hollis.

After all of these kittens, litters do start to blur together for me, but I will never forget these Hollis Girls and their crazy antics!  Remember THIS madness??

These two cuties landed a amazing home with a great gal named Evelyn.  Their adoption tale HERE, if would like to refresh your memory.

Henrietta is still Henrietta, but for obvious reasons Evelyn (the human) changed Evelyn's (the kitten) to Fluffy.

Here's Evelyn/Fuffy as a wee one.

And here is little Henrietta.

Here they are today!

And here's what their mom had to say about her sweet babies:

Henrietta and Fluffy (aka Evelyn) have thrived this year. They have turned out to be on the small side compared to their housemate Leo - they run about 9 pounds and he about 15. They are a joy to have; they are playful and adventurous and keep Leo on his toes.

One of their favorite pastimes is following him (chasing) around the house. The fact that he is at least 3 inches taller than they are doesn't seem to matter, they are sure they can catch him.

A lot of time is spent on the back of the couch looking out the windows and their evenings are full chasing moths. The dreaded squirt bottle has been out as Fluffy is particularly bad about knocking things off the mantel and bookcases in her zeal to rid us of one more moth. Henrietta is also an avid hunter and much more careful than her sister. She is the one who makes sure all the food bowls are clean after every meal - her bowl, Fluffy's bowl, and Leo's bowl. She is not above pushing either of the others out of the way so she can make sure those bowls are tidy. She's been like that from the first and it was always funny to see this little, dainty kitten nosing in under Leo's chin to get to his food. Surprisingly, he never seemed to mind. That has led to him being fed in various places around the house, anywhere that Henny couldn't get to.

Thank you again Laurie for bring these wonderful little girls into my life. The four of us are a very happy family.

P.S. Fluffy is not really liking this hot weather. Her new favorite place is laying on her back in front of the fan. That photo makes her look very chubby but she and Henny are within 0.10 pounds of each other according to their vet. Fluffy is just very fluffy.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this great update, Evelyn!  We're so happy to know everyone is doing great!!

Evelyn and Evelyn (and Henrietta)!

We all were very sad to hear the news of Virgil Pettibone's passing last summer. He was a very special kitty who was loved deeply by Evelyn, his mama.

Evelyn gave her heart some time to heal, then a couple of months back she sent me a note saying she was ready for another kitty love.  Her cat Leo was acting lonely, and it seemed he was ready too.

At that time, our precious Clovers were with us, but all had been spoken for. I promised her first pick of the next litter, and when they arrived, the first kitten that caught her eye was a floofly black and white girl.

We had our naming rights auction, and Nanette, the winning bidder, named that floofy black and white girl "Evelyn".

And yes, we took this as a sign.

Evelyn (the human) came down to meet Evelyn (the kitten) and her sisters.  We had a lovely visit and while we watched the kittens play, she told me that she thought she might like two kittens, and not just one. I was excited to hear this because you know we always like to send our kittens out in pairs whenever possible, and also because I thought it made the most sense for Leo, who is 11 years old.  The kittens could keep each other entertained and Leo could enjoy watching them and interact as much and as often as he liked.  Though he's very young at heart, an energetic kitten could potentially become a little pesky at times.

After much deliberation, Evelyn (the human) picked Henrietta, too.  And if Evelyn (the kitten) would have had her choice, I think she would have picked Henrietta as well.  These two kittens have always enjoyed each other's company, and have been pretty chummy from the start.

We're quite happy for Evelyn, Evelyn, Henrietta, and Leo, and we wish them all the happiness in the world!

Oh, Henrietta will be keeping her name, but Evelyn (the kitten) most likely will be changing hers.

A Good Bath

DSC_0957

Good morning! I'm back! It was a crazy and intense whirlwind of a trip and it feels so good to be home again. Thank you for being patient and understanding while I was away. I hope you all faired well during these kitten-less days!

Today I've got some super cute footage of Wylla bathing little Caroline and Henrietta. She really takes the job quite seriously and is a very thorough bather.  As you can tell by their motors, they love it too. I think they really do think of her as "mom".

If you look closely, you may notice the kittens have shaved bellies. Yes, I'm sad to say that it's time to say goodbye to this extra-adorable set. Because they were a little older when the arrived, their stay with us was brief.

We'll start the adoption tales tomorrow and I think you'll be very happy with the wonderful homes they landed.  We've got some repeat customers and 3/4 of the Hollis Girls got adopted by families we've met before!  We've got some really happy endings to share!

So, today a good bath. Tomorrow, good byes.

Puddles and Piles of Cuteness

Henrietta, Sally, Caroline and Evelyn were being extra, extra adorable.  They're pretty endearing any given moment of the day, but while in sleepy states this weekend, they managed  to work themselves into some impossibly cute piles, puddles and pairings.

They must have know that Monday was around the corner and thought some of their adorableness might make easing back into the work week a little easier.

I'm hoping this big batch of cute might be enough to hold you over through the week. You see, I've got a big, important work project that's taking me out of town this week. It's pretty rare that I take time off from blogging - I usually post from the road when traveling, which is always a challenge.   I know the days to come are going to be crazy and long, and it will be really difficult to carve out any time to create blog posts in the middle of all of that.  I've decided it might be best to put things on pause over here while I get through this week.   I'll probably put a photo or video or two up on Instagram, so if you need a little kitten fix, please visit HERE.

Thank you for understanding.

Now, please sit back and enjoy the extreme cute.

OH, the cute.

Hollis Girls, you are really something.

Purr, Purr, Purring

These Hollis girls have great motors. If they're sitting still or lightly sleeping, you can usually hear them idling. I've shared short clips of their purring on our Instagram account, but I know not everyone is using Instagram, so I strung together a few bits to share with you today on the blog.

Please enjoy their soothing sounds.

Pinned By Kittens

I'm having a hard time preparing this post because I've currently got a kitten draped over each wrist, one my shoulder,  and a wiggly one who keeps walking across my laptop keyboard.  Henrietta is the wiggly one and I just had to delete three lines of umlauts thanks to her.   She also paused long enough on the "delete" key to throw about thirty photos into the trash. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve them before they were lost for good.

Because I'm pinned by kittens, Wylla and Charlene just took advantage of the moment and tiptoed towards the kitten room for some crunchies.  I yelled  when I saw them heading that direction, they're so obvious when they're trying to be sneaky, but they ignored me. They did pause for a moment, Wylla  glanced in my direction, but did not make eye contact with me. She knew she was being naughty. She knew I knew. She knew I wouldn't get up and try to stop her, but I did yell again.

"Don't think I don't know what you two are up to!"

Two swishy tails waved goodbye and disappeared into the hall.  As I type this, I hear crunching.

Come treat time this afternoon, I will remind them of this infraction.

I've got a set photos to share of our Hollis Girls being awfully adorable and sweet. They love getting cozy on the couch and burrowing into the throw pillows, and they look pretty cute doing it!
