An Easterbrook Update!

Katy and Jerry, who adopted Thurston (Saucer) and Norma (Binka) Easterbrook are very dear friends of ours, so we get to their kitties often.   I've shared updates Saucer and Binka before, and many of you have commented on their sleek, lovely coats. They are beauties, for sure, and two of the shiniest cats I've ever seen!

They're sweet, too, and it is always a pleasure getting to spend a little time with them.  Whenever we do,  there's always a game of fetch with Binka, and when his curiosity gets the best of him, Saucer will always appear and share his awesome belly.

Here's our update from Katy:


Our sweet kitties celebrated their 6th birthday, and every day we enjoy their company. Binka is curious, outgoing, motherly, slightly bossy and sweet. She nearly always comes right away when called and knows exactly when we are talking about her, chiming right into the conversation with well-placed meows. We call her B for short, Queen B, and occasionally Beagle, because she still loves to fetch. She loves to exercise with us in the mornings and meets us on our yoga mats with her ball. I often think of her as a spiritual teacher because she is energetic, physical and always up for an adventure yet when you pick her up she has no tension or stress in her body. I aspire to be more like Binka...

Saucer is a special boy who is a very handsome, sensitive guy who is quite a lover in private and is also a fierce hunter. Though Binka seems more curious on the surface, Saucer is the one who dominates in the true hunt on the occasions that mouse or shrew has gotten into the house in the winter. We also affectionately call him Saucy Boy, Gentle Boy, and Tiger Kitty, and my special name for him is the Duke of Saucer because of his extra smattering of chin whiskers which give him a rather regal look. He is quite a lounger and we have a special ritual when we get home at night to go into the bedroom for some private love with just him. He likes to climb onto our backs and he gives the best body hugs when we pick him up, as he curls around the back of our necks with his head. They are indoor cats except during summer when we have supervised outings on our patio. They have been amazing about learning and mostly sticking to their boundaries and I'm always grateful and impressed with how well they mind. We love spending time on the patio. This photo really perfectly captures them. I call it "Balance B and the Spider Hunter." Binka (who has also earned the nickname Balance B, for her propensity for balancing on thin railings watches intently as Saucer fearlessly goes in to reach for a spider.)

We love our kitties and are forever grateful to have found them through the IBKC.

An Easterbrook Update!

Thurston and Norma Easterbrook were adopted by our dear friends Katy and Jerry,  so I've had many opportunities to see them, and I get updates all the time.  They're adored by their parents and live a very nice life in Seattle.  They're healthy, happy, and both have remarkably shiny coats.

Here's the pair when they were wee.






Norma (who now goes by Binka), is the more social of the pair. If you pay her a visit,  most likely she'll engage you in an endless game of fetch.

Thurston (who now goes by Saucer) is a striking young man. He loves swatting at his "Da Bird" toy, and showing off his marvelous belly.  He looks so dashing in his tux, doesn't he?

Norma and Thurston Easterbrook!!

Thurston and Norma Easterbrook (now Saucer and Binka) we're adopted by two of our very dear friends, Katy and Jerry. A couple of months back, I paid them all a visit, and spent some time photographing the pair.

Let's take a glance back at  baby Norma, all fuzzy and cute.



And here she is all grown up - GORGEOUS!







Here's young Thurston, the tiny dapper lad.

Both are striking cats - they look so healthy with their bright eyes, shiny coats and trim builds.  Norma/Binka is the more outgoing of the pair.  She will play fetch until your throwing arm grows weary.  Thurston/Saucer is more reserved, but so very charming and sweet.  

The pair is close, and each enjoys the company of the other.   And this pair brings so much joy to their parents, too.  There's a whole lot of happiness in their home.

Adios, Easterbrooks!

Well, all the Easterbrooks left within an hour of each other on Thursday night. Usually the kittens sort of trickle out the door so we're not used to going from kitten-full to kitten-free in such a small window of time.

It was a bit of an adjustment, but it's OK. We feel great about where they went, which makes it all easier. Also, I know we'll be able to keep close tabs on these kittens, too.....





Astrid went first. She was adopted by a very sweet couple, Daniel and Thuc. They are serious cat lovers/spoilers, and have a beautiful, sleek, gray and white young-lady-cat named Mochie. You'll be happy to know that Mochie has a blog already, so you'll be able to follow her adventures with Miss Astrid by clicking HERE. They adore little Astrid already, so I know she'll do just great in her new home.



Thurston and Norma left together. They were adopted by adopted by my friend, Katy and her partner, Jerry. Katy and I go WAY back. WAY back. We were college roomies at Iowa State.

Katy and Jerry had been in the market for a pair of kitties since last fall. They both have a weakness for Tuxedos and cats with darker coats, and were hoping a litter containing those colors would come our way.

FINALLY they did. So, I gave Katy a call, and they came down to meet the Easterbrooks. They considered all possible parings, and even toyed with the idea of three for a brief moment. Eventually decided that Norma and Thurston were the ones for them.









I've gotten a couple of reports already, and Thurston and Norma are doing superbly. It's sounds like they're settling right in.


I couldn't be happier with the homes our kittens landed.

Baby Bear Bares All

All Boxed Up

Kitten Ninjas

Our friend Sarah, who comes and looks after Charlene and Co when we step out of town, dubbed these little Easterbrooks "The Kitten Ninjas". She was here taking care of everyone when we were in Portland a couple of weekends ago.

In the kitten room, there's a closet that has curtains instead of doors. The kittens love sleeping in there. It's dark and cozy and there are lots of little nooks and spots to cuddle up in, like the sock box and sweater cubbies, for example.

If you enter the kitten room while they're napping, it's quiet and the room feels empty. Then, one by one, from behind the drapes, these stealth kittens drop out of the closet and land with a soft thud on the hardwood floor.

They're always a little bit dazed, because just seconds before they were sound asleep, so they stand frozen in the positions they landed in while they wake up and figure out what's going on. Posed in their little black coats, they look just like little kitten ninjas.

Sweet Silhouette

Little Norma has such an adorable profile. I love the slope of her nose and her nub-of-a-chin. Her wispy whiskers and tiny ears are pretty endearing too.

Just in the brief time we've had them, they've changed so much. All of their rounder kitten parts are starting to sharpen. They are getting leggier and longer too.

They're revealing more of their personalities as well. And Miss Norma is as sweet as her silhouette.
