Seeking Kitten Love

DSC_0414

Six months ago, Carly and Christian adopted a lovely three year-old calico girl named Nova from our shelter.  They were thinking about adding a kitten to the mix,  she mentioned this to mutual friends, and they pointed them in our direction.  Shortly thereafter I received an email with the subject line "Seeking kitten love".

When Carly and Christian came to meet the kittens,  within seconds they fell head-over-heals for the sweet tabby girl. She was at ease with them. She made them melt.  Caroline has that effect on people,  She oozes love and purrs SO hard.  She is enchanting.

I think they found their kitten love, and we are thrilled for Miss Caroline.

So, all four of our Hollis Girls found amazing homes. We're so happy for them and their bright futures. Thank you to all of our amazing families who adopted these special kittens.  We hope they bring you many, many years of joy!

You may have noticed there are no "gold medals" for our adoption ceremonies this round. The shelter switched microchip companies, and the new company does not provide tags. I'll miss that piece of the process, and might have to come up with something to replace it. I'll get that figured out before the next batch leaves.

And speaking of the next batch, they're here!  They're just getting settled in and tomorrow we will start introductions!

Surprise Sally

DSC_0557

Do you remember Norman Ashby? Many years ago, we fostered this sweet boy. He was adopted by a very nice family, and he's been living the good life in Gig Harbor, WA.

Haylie, Norman's human big sister, is celebrating her 14th birthday this summer, and her family thought a kitten would be the perfect gift for her.  So, her mom, dad, and brother came over to meet the Hollis Girls and pick out a kitten for Haylie.

Evelyn and Henrietta had already been claimed, so they had their pick between Sally and Caroline.  They struggled with the decision, both kittens were so charming, but in the end, they decided that Sally would be the one. They thought she would be a good personality match for Norman, and they felt Sally would have been the one that Haylie would have picked.

Sally would be a surprise, so I asked Caden, Haylie's brother, if he could keep this big secret.

He quickly responded "I'm in sixth grade. I've got this".

And did he keep the secret?

No.

But that was fine. When they all came over to pick up Sally,  Haylie was thrilled with her gift.

How could she not be?  She got THIS adorable kitten for her 14th birthday.

Evelyn and Evelyn (and Henrietta)!

We all were very sad to hear the news of Virgil Pettibone's passing last summer. He was a very special kitty who was loved deeply by Evelyn, his mama.

Evelyn gave her heart some time to heal, then a couple of months back she sent me a note saying she was ready for another kitty love.  Her cat Leo was acting lonely, and it seemed he was ready too.

At that time, our precious Clovers were with us, but all had been spoken for. I promised her first pick of the next litter, and when they arrived, the first kitten that caught her eye was a floofly black and white girl.

We had our naming rights auction, and Nanette, the winning bidder, named that floofy black and white girl "Evelyn".

And yes, we took this as a sign.

Evelyn (the human) came down to meet Evelyn (the kitten) and her sisters.  We had a lovely visit and while we watched the kittens play, she told me that she thought she might like two kittens, and not just one. I was excited to hear this because you know we always like to send our kittens out in pairs whenever possible, and also because I thought it made the most sense for Leo, who is 11 years old.  The kittens could keep each other entertained and Leo could enjoy watching them and interact as much and as often as he liked.  Though he's very young at heart, an energetic kitten could potentially become a little pesky at times.

After much deliberation, Evelyn (the human) picked Henrietta, too.  And if Evelyn (the kitten) would have had her choice, I think she would have picked Henrietta as well.  These two kittens have always enjoyed each other's company, and have been pretty chummy from the start.

We're quite happy for Evelyn, Evelyn, Henrietta, and Leo, and we wish them all the happiness in the world!

Oh, Henrietta will be keeping her name, but Evelyn (the kitten) most likely will be changing hers.

A Good Bath

DSC_0957

Good morning! I'm back! It was a crazy and intense whirlwind of a trip and it feels so good to be home again. Thank you for being patient and understanding while I was away. I hope you all faired well during these kitten-less days!

Today I've got some super cute footage of Wylla bathing little Caroline and Henrietta. She really takes the job quite seriously and is a very thorough bather.  As you can tell by their motors, they love it too. I think they really do think of her as "mom".

If you look closely, you may notice the kittens have shaved bellies. Yes, I'm sad to say that it's time to say goodbye to this extra-adorable set. Because they were a little older when the arrived, their stay with us was brief.

We'll start the adoption tales tomorrow and I think you'll be very happy with the wonderful homes they landed.  We've got some repeat customers and 3/4 of the Hollis Girls got adopted by families we've met before!  We've got some really happy endings to share!

So, today a good bath. Tomorrow, good byes.
