A Couple of Gibson Kittens

If you were around for last year's fundraiser, you would have seen these two answering the phones and raising squillions.  They are Pheona and Sherman Gibson, who now go by Fiona and Gustav.

Sometimes kitties change tremendously as they grow, and sometimes they just grow up to be larger versions of their former kitty selves.  These two fall into the latter category.

Here's what Erika, their mama, had to say..

Our little ones are doing fantastic - we actually decided they were the best decision of 2012! They really do bring so much joy to our lives. Gustav (who we call Goose) is the biggest cuddle bug and purr monster you'll ever meet. He lives for belly, head and ear rubs - always wiggling his way under our hands. 

Fiona (or Fifi) is still an adorable little mischief - always trying to sneak outside or into a closet where she doesn't belong. But after she burns herself out, she's ready to join the snuggle party too. I thought they might grow out of cuddling together, but we find them side-by-side or in a random box together fairly regularly. They were a perfect match - both for each other and for our family. It's like we hit the kitty lottery with these two :) Thanks for taking care of them when they were wee ones!


Thanks for the update, Erika!  I think you picked the right pair.  Clearly, they are happy together and happy with you and Joe!

A Sherman and Pheona Update!

I just got an update from Erika, mom to Sherman (now Gustav Sherman)  and Pheona (now Fiona) which I'm excited to share with you!  Here's what she had to say.




Hi Laurie, 

I thought I'd send you a little update on our little ones, as well as a couple pictures! As you may have seen in my blog, we made minor changes to their names, but wanted to keep them somewhat in tact. 

They are too much fun - and have adapted to our home very quickly! Whenever possible, they like to be in the same room as us, even if that means waking from a nap because when we leave a room - they pretty much follow us wherever we go. They snuggle with each other all the time, which is absolutely adorable! 



Fiona is the definition of "curiosity killed the cat" because she is always looking into things, poking into closets, peeking out windows, etc. As you can see in one of the pictures, she was eagerly waiting for Joe to come home! 

Gustav, on the other hand, is most happy sitting and purring in our laps. But overall, I think their motto is, "sleep hard, play harder." Now if only I could catch some of their crazy leaps, attacks and flips when they are playing together! 



Oh, and Gustav gives Fiona "kitty massages" ALL THE TIME! It's so funny. She just lays there and takes it too. I managed to catch it on video. 



 So glad we found kitties through you! We're quite happy with our two little furballs :)

Goodbye Gibsons Pt 1

A few of months ago Erika inquired about adopting a kitten.   Of course when someone says they are looking for a single kitten, I always suggest two, because as we all know,  two kittens are always better than one.

She talked about the idea of two kittens with her sweetie, Joe, and they decided that two was indeed better, but they would have to wait until they moved out of their small apartment and into a house before they adopted.

Well, they got settled into their new home, and Erika sent me a note letting me know they were ready for kittens.

Pheona was the first kitten that caught their eye, and they decided before the came for the meet-and-greet that she would be theirs.

All of the Gibsons were quite charming the day Erika and Joe came to visit,  but Sherman put on the best show, and quickly won their love.

The happy couple came this Saturday to pick up their babies and it was clear they were thrilled to be bringing them home.   We were equally thrilled that they adopted them.    They'e quite nice couple, and I know they'll make the best kitty parents.

Out Like a Trout

Like a spotted-belly trout.



Yesterday afternoon was a warm one.  The Gibson Kittens melted into puddles on the couch cushions. They draped their limp bodies over chair arms.








And they napped with their bellies up and tongues stuck out.






Poor, warm little kittens.

All is Well

I picked the kitties up around 4:30 yesterday. They were all awake, and excited to get out of their kitten cubbies.    Everyone did JUST fine.   There were no complications at all.

Francis, who works in the cattery, has had a crush on sweet Cedric since the start, so she snuck in a couple of time during the day to give him a little love.  Lucky boy.   Lucky Francis.




When they go they got home they ran and ran all over the house.   They had the sense to keep it on the ground, and played a good game of soccer with a mylar ball.   No one seemed too interested in leaping or climbing, which is a good thing for post-surgery kittens.

They turned in early last night, and were clamoring to get our of their room this morning.

They scarfed down their breakfast and have returned to their soccer match.

Pheona's shaved, spotted belly is just about the cutest thing I've seen.  If I can get her to flip over long enough for a photo, I'll be sure to share it with you.




Our little Gibsons sure have grown up. They are starting to look a lot less kitten-y, and are now looking like tiny grown-up cats. As sad as it will be to say goodbye to this fabulous bunch, I'm excited for them to start the next chapter of their lives.

Hang On! We're Almost There!!

This fundraiser is flying by!  We've got 3.5 weeks behind us, just one week to go, and a little over $22 squillion to raise to meet our goal.  I know that sounds like a lot, but I feel confident we can reach it, it's just going to take a little work.

 I'm up for it,  and the kitties are too because we know that every dollar we bring in, will enhance the life of a shelter cat or kitten.

Every dollar truly makes difference.  

This community of ours is filled with some wonderful,  kitty-loving folks.   I know you care deeply,  and I hope that those of you who are in a financial position to give, will want to support the shelter responsible for giving us these incredible kittens we've all gotten to know and love.

This is the part of the fundraiser were I do get a little tired and a tad emotional    Nearly every donation, be it $2 or $200, can bring me to tears and leave me tongue-tied.

So, before I get too far gone, let me thank you again.

Ellis is nearly three years old, so naturally, meeting five adorable kittens got him a little excited.  His enthusiasm did frighten the kittens a tad, so they scurried away and under things.  

We encouraged him to be still and quiet, and told him that if he was patient, the kittens would come to him.  

So Ellis closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, and Pheona decided it was safe to perch upon him.

And What Big Eyes You Have

We're Grateful It's Over!

The Gibsons were happy to see the end of a very noisy Fourth.  The poor little kittens were on edge all day long.  

Today,  they've come out of hiding and are enjoying a nap on top of the bed.

They're happy, purring and relaxed kittens once again.  

Freedom!

On Tuesday, quarantine was up for our little Gibsons, and they were set free.    Of course they were thrilled to get out of the confines of their room, and explore the rest of the house.

They love having the big rug in the living room to use as a wrestling mat, and all day long it's one match after another.    It's endless entertainment for the kitten participants and the human audience too.

They've met Charlene, and are at ease with her.  No huffing or puffing, hissing, or tails swishing.  

Charlene perches, and watches them from the back of her favorite chair or the windowsill .   On occasion, one of the Gibsons will come say hello to her and receive a few licks on their head.


The kittens were running wild and playing hard this morning, but now are all piled up under the bed.  There's an air show today, and all the noise has everyone nervous.

And it's only going to get worse, once the fireworks begin.

They might be scared, but they'll be safe.

Please be sure all your critters are inside and safe too.    

A Name for Our Gibson Girl!

I'm happy to announce that our little Gibson Girl now has a name!

Our friends, Rebecca and Barry, who assigned the name "Gibson" to our dear little Gibsons came back to bid again, and they were the winners in our Tabby Girl's naming rights auction!


Meet Pheona Gibson.    

Originally, Rebecca thought she would give her the name "Phoebe".  There was once a very special black and gray Tabby in her life named Phoebe,  and she thought it would be nice to honor her by making the Gibson Girl her namesake.

But then she realized there had already been a "Phoebe"on the IBKC,  and she came up with another plan.   She would be named Pheona, a derivative of Phoebe, which means bright, radiant, and shining.    

How perfect!

And her initials are "PG" which is the nickname Barry gave to Rebecca, which stands for "Pretty Girl".    

And Pheona is a very, very pretty girl.  

 

Thank you once again for putting so much care and thought into the name selection.  Pheona really suits her so perfectly.
