Procrastination Donation Day

DSC_0701
Hi Friends.  It's me, The Bean.

Today is Procrastination Donation Day.  For those of you out there who have been planning on making a donation to fundraiser,  but just haven't gotten around to do it, well, today's the day.

I understand waiting until the last minute to do things, believe me, I'm the very same way, but this IS the last minute.

We've got just 13 days until the fundraiser ends.    So please,  hurry on over to the Dog-A-Thon donation page, and help a kitty out.

Yours truly,  Charlene

Our Lovely Little Lynx Point has a Name

mosaic5fa40de837d1f6ab1e1ca881c9bb63e94cbe3adc

Our dear friend Cynthia was the lucky winning bidder on our little Lynx Point lady. Like Nanette, who named Miss Marie-Noire, she offered a little insight to her kitten naming process. Here's what she had to say...

I'm so excited, but having a bit of performance anxiety, too. How about "Camille"? Her nickname could be "Cammy" if anyone wanted one.
French, feminine, a little delicate. Of course, she'll be climbing the curtains in two week's time, won't she? Maybe she won't seem so delicate then. :)
I started out thinking of names that would evoke her lovely creamy and gray color...which made me think of a cameo, and then I remembered an irascible old high school geometry teacher named Cam Tessier (she was a character and an excellent teacher!), and then I thought, "Camille.".

I love it. It's lovely. And it really is a perfect fit for this sweet little girl. Thank you, Cynthia!

We have two more kitties left to name, the floofier tabby girls, and the auctions will be ending today. Please click HERE to visit the auctions, and get in on the action! One auction ends in just a couple of hours, the other later this afternoon.

Our day devoted to the Foster Program brought in just a little under $2500. Add Cynthia's matching donation challenge to it,, and we raised close to $3500! How amazing! : )

We just passed $22 squillion which is so awesome! Things tend to get a little quiet around the fundraising set on the weekends. With Dog-A-Thon so close (it's just two weeks away now) we just can't afford the quiet days anymore! The pressure is on!

If you've been thinking about making a donation, now's the time, because we're running out of time!

One last thing,,, Sue at Pitter Pats posted some pictures of her ward, Mr Pinky. So, if you care to see some pictures of the little man you met here the other day, click HERE.

I'll be back when I have more names to announce.

Until then,,, have a happy Saturday. xoxo

Four Squillion and Counting!

FIRST I must say, we're off to a very impressive start, don't you think?? !!  I can hardly believe we cleared four squillion in the first three days of our little fundraiser.   If we keep up at this pace, we are sure to hit the  goal of 40 squillion!    It's so exciting to watch the total on the  Dog-A-Thon counter rise!  Thank you to everyone for your donations and enthusiasm!!

Please look over there to the right.... see that new picture of Bean?    To help keep things interesting, we've added a daily feature to our fundraiser, "Butterbean's Daily Donation Challenge".    Everyday until the end of the Dog-A-Thon fundraiser (July 24th), Charlene will be introducing a new challenge.

It's fun, it's easy,, and each new challenge will be a different "price point" so they'll be suitable for everyone's pocketbook.

Today's challenge is the "Five Dollars a Foot" challenge.   Should you chose to take on the challenge,  pleae donate $5 for every paw in your house.

You know I've got that picture of grown-up Tressa Lovejoy to share with you all.  I'll do that as soon as we clear 5 squillion.     If a few of you take on the Five Dollars a Foot challenge, we'll be there in a heart-beat.

Thanks so much for all your support.   I'm so incredibly proud to be a member of this community.

Now Open: The Butterbean Quarantine!

DSC_0889

As most of you know, a big chunk of the money you generously donated to the IBKC fundraiser for our Humane Society went towards the build-out of two cat quarantine rooms. Because of the donations, we officially sponsored one of the rooms, and it has been dubbed "The Butterbean Quarantine".

Just a weeks back, they officially opened the doors. Today I stopped by to see the fully functioning rooms in person, and snap a few pictures to share with you. Shana was there today to give me the full tour.

The rooms are lovely. The walls are painted a pale, watery blue and natural light floods in through the skylights. The rooms feel peaceful and calm. So do the resident cats.

There are 32 cages total in the two rooms. Some are for single cats, others are large enough to house pairs or a family.

The Butterbean Quarantine will be used to hold the healthy owner-surrender cats while they wait for a spot to open up for them at one the satellite adoption stations at PetSmart, Petco or Metropolian Vet. This frees up more space in the main cattery and will keep the owner-surrender cats healthy by keeping them separate from the strays.

Having these rooms up and running is going to make such a HUGE difference at the HS.

So, thank you once again for your amazing support. Just look what you did and think of all the lives you are saving.

The Cat People Have Spoken

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would be able to raise so much. I feel kind of silly actually, having started off with such a modest goal of $3,000. I'm sorry I underestimated you so. I guess I never thought so many would be willing to give so much to a shelter outside of their community, let alone outside their country.

But you did. Of course you did. And you gave again. And you rallied and cheered and supported and told all your friends about what we were doing. While our totals grew, so did the number of followers, and we all witnessed something magical unfold.

We watched a lot of people come together. We watched a whole lot of good happen. We cried a lot of happy tears. We watched a small campaign snowball into something really, really huge. We held our breath while we waited to meet that final goal of $20 Squillion. We saw a community of people speak up for the cats and kittens. We watched people take notice.

As it stands today, with our donations, the funds raised from the auctions, and what Shana collected too for the team, The Itty Bitty Kitty Community brought in a whopping $22,855. REMARKABLE!!

From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you for caring and giving so much. I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. We have made a difference.

Wonderful, beautiful Itty Bitty Kitty Community, you enrich my life. You make this world a better place.

A Squillion hugs, Laurie

PS Now I have a few community members I would like to thank....

Greg: It was Greg who suggested in the early days of the fundraiser that we could quite possibly go beyond 10 Squillion. I thought it sounded way out of reach when he suggested it, but quickly I was proven wrong. He offered lots of fundraising ideas and encouragement along the way. I should also mention he has big crush on Butterbean. She thinks he's swell too.

Sue: Sue was there every single step of the way, being supportive, and getting all choked up by the wonderfulness of this community. Thank you, friend!!

Shana: Yay for Shana! Thanks for always being so positive,,you were such a team cheer-leader. (and she brought in a nice little chunk of change to the campaign too!!)

Rita: She's a generous soul and inspired so many to give by suggesting her match-making offer. Thank you Rita!!

Cynthia: Thank you Cynthia! You are generous times a squillion. You gave, and gave and gave. Your enthusiasm was contagious, and inspired so many to give as well.

Staci: Staci sent our pics into Cute Overload which brought a lot TON exposure to our campaign. (and introduced the previously mentioned Cynthia to the IBKC !!)

Mimi: Thank you Mimi for donating your beautiful painting. You got the auction ball rolling! We're so thrilled your pretty painting fetched a pretty penny!

Chroma Lab (Alicia and Tony): Thank you for donating one of your beautiful clocks to the auction. Thank you too for spreading the word about the IBKC and our fundraiser. Thanks for all the love and support your family ALWAYS sends our way!

Dan: Thank you, Dan for suggesting the auctioning of the naming rights to the Kitties. BRILLIANT! Absolutely BRILLIANT!

Nanette, Renee, Sarah, Eleanor, Francesca, Koren, Margo, Garth and Woody: A huge thanks to all our our generous naming rights winners!

Craig: Thank you for being so patient and supportive through this event. Thank you too for always reminding me that my wildest dreams could be bigger. Lastly, thanks for agreeing to wear matching tee-shirts at the Dog-A-Thon. I know it was kind of nerdy.

Dog-A-Thon pics and recap to follow. I had to thank you first!

TOMMOROW we'll be announcing the lucky winner of the complete IBKC card set and naming rights to a kitten from our next litter. I've got a few other prizes to raffle off too!

A Short Report

DSC_0657

Here's a sneak peek pic from the Dog-A-Thon. We all had a great time, but it was hot, hot, hot. In all the pictures we took of the dogs, their tongues are hanging out. Fortunately, they had water bowls everywhere and wading pools to cool them off.

I'm working on a long Dog-A-Thon and auction wrap-up post right now which I'll post later this morning. So much to say,, so many to thank...!!!

For now,, if you would care to find out more about the day, you can read an article in our local paper by clicking here.

Whew! We're Exhausted!

DSC_0304

And it's not even over yet ! We've still got Dog-A-Thon! For those of you in the Tacoma area, please join us tomorrow (Saturday) for all the festivities at Fort Steilacoom Park from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM.

There will be weight pulling, herding demonstrations, barbeque, dozens of vendor booths, and of course, the walk for homeless pets.

We're still soaking all that has happened in. We've got lots folks to thank, some totals to announce, and I need to tell you how amazing you are a few more times.

On Monday, I'll get to all that, and post some pics of the event too.

Thank you everyone. I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate all you've have done to make this fundraiser such an amazing success.

GIVE US A BIG HIGH FIVE, HUBIE! WE HAVE DONE IT!!

high-five hubie

OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW!!! Thanks to all of you AMAZING, LOVING AND GENEROUS people, we have reached an INCREDIBLE goal of $20K. I am going to wake the napping Fortunatos and tell them what we've done. There will be happy tears, dancing, and treats for all!!!

I think in my entire life, this will be the happiest story I will have to tell.

I AM ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!!!

DSC_0551.JPG

We are SO close! My litter box is in the other room, and I've got to go, but there is no way on earth I am leaving the computer for one second.

Are you watching too??? How many times have you hit refresh???

Say What??? Another Matching Offer????

DSC_1859.JPG

Well, our first donation match got maxed FAST!!!! Thanks again to Rita for your generosity and inspiration! Thanks to all of you who stepped up and made your donation!!

I've got another match all lined up to run from now until 5:00 PM Pacfic Time. No surprise, it's from Cynthia, our superhero, who has helped us pass many milestones during this campaign.

Now here's the deal:

For every dollar you pledge, she will match, then double that amount.
SO if you donate $20, she will donate $40, so your $20 becomes $60.

Pretty fabulous, eh?

Now here's the REALLY wonderful part,, She's willing to donate up to $750 for this match.

SOOOOO,, if we bring in $375 in pledges by 5:00 Pacific Time, she'll donate $750, which turns your $375 into $1125 which pushes us over the 20 SQUILLION mark!!

AND THEN we can all start screaming and crying and jumping for joy and hugging and kissing our cats and kittens!!!

Matching !!

DSC_0171

Today, I got a very generous offer from IBKC follower, Rita.

From now until 2:00 PM today (Pacific Time) Rita will be matching your donations, up to $250 dollars.

Here's how it works:
If we bring in, say, $180 in donations by 2:00 PM, Rita will donate $180.

If our donations total $250, Rita will donate in $250.

If we go beyond $250. She'll donate $250.

So if you make your donations now, they will REALLY count!!
It's a win-win for the cats and kits!

Thanks you, Rita, for your wonderful idea and generosity!!!

The Fortunato Fifth!

DSC_0318

DSC_0313
First, let me start off by saying, that it KILLS me when kittens sit like this, with their tails wrapped around their toes, just so. I think tips of tails and toes are two of my favorite kitten parts. To have them in such close proximity, well,, it's just divine.

OK, moving on.

Well, the naming rights auction was a HUGE success! All five kittens brought in just a tad under a squillion, which was quite a WONDERFUL surprise. Thanks so much to all the bidders and winners.

Speaking of winners,, mother-daughter team, Renee and Sarah we're the high bidders earning naming rights to our second little lynx point lad. Renee is in Virginia, Sarah's somewhere in Wyoming, making her way back to Seattle. They texted back and forth and decided that this LLPL (little lynx point lad) would be named...

Warren Fortunato!!

I love the name Warren. In fact, I've got it on my on-going list of kitten names.
Once again, the name fits the kitten perfectly. VERY nice work Renee and Sarah!!!

Nice work, EVERYONE! It's so great having names for all the kittens now. And what great names the kittens have!!!!

Well, there are just two days left, with two squillion to go. I'm getting a little nervous. Time is running out!!!

I will be firing lots of posts off today in hopes of firing folks up. Charlene will be tweeting, and letting us know each time we take a step closer to our goal. So, please stay tuned.

Deja Vu ! Lynx Point Number Two!

Hey, wait a minute,, didn't we already meet this little guy?

Nope, he looks the same, but he's different. But barely. It took me a while to figure it out.

DSC_0403

This is the fifth and final Fortunato. Like his twin, he too is a striking young lynx point lad with eyes that are giant pools of blue.

If you're not the lucky winner who gets to name his twin, you can get in on this auction action.

Also,, we still have some time left on tabby girl and tiny siamese's naming rights plus Mimi's watercolor painting and Chroma Lab's clock too. Click here to view all of the current auctions.

LIVE from the IBKC Fundraising Headquarters: The Fortunatos

The new phone bank trainees are off to a rocky start.

DSC_0243
Focus, everyone, please focus for just one second. Please. We've got a lot to cover today. Now does everyone have their script memorized? Is everyone awake?

First, we're going to get on the phones and do some mock calls. Everyone, take a seat at your station.

DSC_0213
OK guys,, when I say get "on the phone", I don't literally mean "on" the phone. Climb down off the table and grab a chair, Mr tabby. Thank you.

Alright now, when you hear me say "ring" I want you to pick up the phone and read the first line from your script. Ready? Ring.

DSC_0204

Come on now,, I said "RING"!

DSC_0236

RING RING RING!

DSC_0233

I think we'll call it a day. I want you guys to study this afternoon. Tomorrow, report back to the set after your morning naps and will give this another shot.

Until they're up to speed,, I might suggest clicking here, and making a donation on line.

A Little More Auction Action!

For those of you who have been with us for awhile, you'll remember our former foster, Maddie Bouvier. She has a pretty great adoption tale, and if you'd like to read it and maybe cry some happy tears, please click here. There's also a follow up post with pictures of the event here.

Alicia and Tony, Maddie's mom and dad, are owners of Chroma Lab, where they produce colorful, modern furniture and home assocories. If you follow any of the design blogs, I'm sure you're seen their lovely work.

Chroma Lab has generously donated one of their lovely clocks to be auctioned off for our fundraiser. The winner gets to pick their favorite design from their website, and they will make it to order.

And here is one of their lovely clocks:

And here's a little blurb about the clocks from Alicia:
Each of our clocks are built by hand from quality birch plywood and then hand painted. They come in a variety of colorful designs that are sure to brighten up any room in your home! We use Benjamin Moore Aura paints on our clocks, as well as a semigloss acrylic polyurethane topcoat for a durable and glossy finish.

I might have to get in on the action on this one... There's a striking red and aqua one that would look mighty fine in my kitchen!

Thanks so much Tony, Alicia and Maddie!

Miss Fortunato

Good morning! I am pleased to introduce the one and only little girl kitty in the Fortunato family.

She's a sweet, smart and out-going little brown tabby, who's as adorable as can be.

Just like her brothers, the naming rights to this little cutie-pie are up for auction too. Just click here to place your bids.

FYI: As I mentioned before, all the names of the folks that donate to our fundraiser will be tossed into a hat and one lucky person will get the naming rights to one of the IBKs. (along with a complete set of IBKC cards) The kitten you get to name will kitten will be from the NEXT litter we take in, not this one.

So, even if you don't get in on the auction, you'll still have a chance to name a kitty (provided you make a donation).

I've got lots of posts planned for today, so be sure to stop back by!

Also,, besides our naming rights auctions, Mimi's beautiful watercolor is still up for auction too. (the auction ends Monday) Click here to check her lovely painting out.

And AS ALWAYS click here if you would like to make a contribution to the campaign. We've cleared 16 squillion and then some!! And that ROCKS!

Here's Your Chance to Name an Itty Bitty Kitty!

As I mentioned earlier, we're auctioning off the rights to name (first and middle) each of our current foster kittens. For continuity's sake, the surname has already been decided upon, and it's "Fortunato".

The first Fortunato up is the lovely little lynx point pictured in the previous post. Click here to find out more about the auction and place your bid.

So how will this work?

You can bid on the right to name any or all of our foster kittens. You are not bidding on the ACTUAL kitten itself.

At the close of each auction, the winning bidder will be contacted, they will reveal the name they've selected and it will be announced on the IBKC blog.

While this kitten remains in our care, we will refer to him on the IBKC blog by the name the winner selected. Once this kitten is adopted, the adopters will be able to name their kitten whatever the choose. ( but maybe if you pick a really fabulous and appropriate name, they'll want to keep it)

In addition to the naming rights, you will also receive a 5" x 7" photograph of the kitten you have named.

And again,, you're NOT bidding on the ACTUAL kitten, just the right to name him.

As each of the Fortunato Five are introduced, their naming rights auction will begin. Each auction will run 3 days.

Thanks again to Dan for the fabulous idea.

Happy Bidding, everyone!!

All of the money raised in these auctions will be donated to the Humane Society.

We Were There,, I Swear!

I'm not entirely sure what happened, but last night, we hit 15 squillion, and then went over the top by a good hundred or so. When I logged in this morning,, it had dropped!! There are probably just pledges that haven't fully processed. Who knows.

REGARDLESS I'm still celebrating!! I'm still just as thrilled!!! We're just $75 under the 15K mark with our pledges,, and the beautiful painting we've got up for auction is over $150 now,,, so technically, we are SO there!!

Thank you all so much for making this happen. You folks are truly remarkable. Never in my wildest dreams did I think there would be so many donations for our kitty cause.

It's been so amazing watching all of these pledges roll in from all over the country and all over the world. It's really just INCREDIBLE that so many are willing to support a shelter that isn't even in their own community!

I love this little community so much. It's filled with so many warm and compassionate people. I feel so lucky to have you all as a part of my life. Thank you for being so lovely and giving.

Now please give yourself a pat on the back again. You've helped us reached a major goal. Just look what you've done for the cats and kitties.

So what's next, you ask?

KITTIES!

I'm scrubbing the floors, blankets are in the wash,, sanitizing litter boxes... getting ready for the next batch-o-babes.
