A Sheldon and Pearla Dearborn Update!

Carmen, Pearla and Sheldon Dearborn's mama, has always been great about keeping us updated on her kitties. This makes us all happy, I'm sure, because EVERYONE loved those Dearborns!

She sent us over a batch of recent (and hilarious) photos as well as a great update, too.

Here are some quick snaps of the kitties - they are both going awesome!  Now that they are 5 (5!!!  can you believe they are 5?!?!) you’d think they would have settled down but… not really.  :)  We still have the serious case of the zoomies most days.  Over time their personalities haven’t changed a whole lot - Sheldon is still the lover who wants to be right by you and wants attention while Pearla is a bit more standoffish with people she doesn’t know.

This time of year the cats spend a lot of time flopping around dramatically because it’s too hot out.  Pearla will find a shady spot on the hardwoods under a cabinet and Sheldon will disappear - and I honestly don’t know where he goes!   They still follow me around the house and “help” with things like laundry and making the bed.  As cats do, of course.

While they don’t know many tricks they have learned that they get treats after they get their nails clipped so they will get really excited when the little scissors come out and follow me to the couch to get a pedicure!  When their schedules allow, which is most days ;), Pearla stalks the birds at the feeder in the yard from the window and Sheldon destroys those yellow catnip bananas.  I buy them in packs of 3 now… he literally eats them over time.  And isn’t great at sharing.  

I tell people all the time how these guys started life in a wall and here they are, complaining about their kibble being late.  They would never be here without all the work you guys do… they don’t know how lucky they are!   I look forward to cat-a-thon season coming up - let’s give those next batches the boost they need!  If anyone wants to see what’s going on in Sheldon’s head, he (sometimes) does the twitter thing at @dammitsheldon  I promise that’s the only swearing involved.  ;)

PS Oh my, that last photo of Sheldon -- it looks like he's climbing out of the pool! SO FUNNY!  What an expressive little nut he is!!

We all loved our Dearborns, so I'll know you 'll be happy to see this update on Pearla and Sheldon!

Here's what she has to say about the pair:


They are doing great! Sheldon is a pain in the butt sometimes and loves getting on the counters so I am learning how to out cat a cat. It’s impossible. Pearla is the good kid and rats on him all the time with those big green eyes. Sheldon is a cuddler and wants to be near people all the time. He will sit on or by you if he can, often with one paw touching you. He is always purring even though he still looks cranky most of the time. He wakes me up each morning by sitting and napping on me until he just can’t stand it and meows in my face to feed them. Pearla is a little more reluctant to snuggle but when she chooses her time she is relentless and will follow you around calling for attention. She is generally the one who will come and lay down with me at night for a few minutes to get the quiet time. They are both playful and wrestle with each other and things all the time. I can’t keep enough “Da Bird” kits in the house because they shred them as they play. 

 In the end, though, they get along great and are often found curled up with each other in a kitty pile. :) I’m a lucky gal to live with these guys - Laurie, Craig, Charlene and Wylla are doing a great thing for kittens and people by the fostering that they do. I’m proud to tell people how I managed to get paired with these little monsters and to support them each year when the fundraiser comes around!

Remember these two cuties, Pearla and Sheldon Dearborn?   Of course you do, you loved them.  EVERYONE loved those darling little Dearborns.   These two, along with their siblings, brought in lots of squillions during our last FUNdraiser.

I hope you all had a lovely, long weekend and all your critters survived the holiday noise.  We did just fine here.  No one was too spooked, but all were happy to hear the noise come to an end.  

We had a quiet weekend on the fundraising front- the 4th of July weekend always is - but we did make some progress.  We've cleared $29 squillion, and  hopefully we will see $30 squillion before today is out!  Today is the $5 a paw challenge, which is always fun.  

All the art for the auction part of our fundraiser has been rolling in.  I'm SO excited to start sharing it with you.   I'll be posting a partial preview later, and this afternoon we'll start the first of the auctions, so be sure to stay tuned!!   You are going to love it!

I've got kittens to feed, boxes to scoop, and a kitten room to tidy up.  As soon as I'm done with those tasks, I'll be back with some auction action!

How We Doing, Sheldon?

Well, it's been quite a day.  The phones have been ringing off the hook.  Phoebe is no where to be found.    Geraldine is busy texting and playing Angry Birds or Words with Friends.  So, it's just been just me, Marla and Pearla taking calls all day long.   


Frankly, we're exhausted, I'm starting to get a little grumpy, and  we haven't even met our matching donation challenge yet.    

I'm sorry you're having such a rough afternoon.    Why don't you take a little nap.

Kittens Watching Wimbledon

Last night, Craig was lucky enough to have all five Dearborns join him on the couch while he watched a little tennis on TV.     This is what it looks like when kittens watch Wimbledon.  



It must of have been a good match.   These kittens are captivated.

Back it Up, Sheldon.

Charlene is mixing and mingling with the kittens now.    She's as cool as a cucumber around them,  but they're still getting used to her.    

The other night,  she was quietly roosting on the back of the chair and looking out the front window when I let the kittens out of their room.   They came running out to play, and started bouncing about the room.

Sheldon discovered how to get up on the window ledge, and was so focused on climbing up there, he didn't realized Charlene was perched on the other end.  When he did finally notice her, he was startled, puffed right up, and threw it in reverse....
