Feel-Good, Funny, and Forgotten

I have to say, the past couple of weeks haven't been the best. When I'm feeling like I need my spirits lifted a bit, I often turn to the IBKC archives and do a little digging. Cute kittens make everything better, don't they?

I've been writing this blog for almost nine years and have posted over 3,000 posts (3,222 to be exact!).  There are kittens and moments that stand out, but when I start poking around in the past, I always begin to realize how much I've forgotten.

I churned up a few IBKC moments that I wanted to share with you today because maybe you need a little uplifting yourself. Or, maybe you know someone who does, and you can share it with them.

Well, here you go! Here are a few funny and feel-good moments I rediscovered.

1. Adorable stretching, napping, purring Dearborns.

2. Oh, Eddie. What a tiny heartbreaker you were!

3. Baby Audrey giving baby Wylla a bath!!  This one just KILLS me.

4. That itty-bitty tongue on Daphne!!

5. Young Bean "signaling the mothership". She used to do this all the time and we never knew why. Still don't.  Still funny.

6.  Wiggly little Wiggins!

7. Teeny-tiny Hazel making baby biscuits!!!! Melts me like butter.

8. Pardon the hyaena laughing in the background -- that would be me.  And those are the Gibsons. Normally I can keep myself in check while taking a video, but this was just toooo funny.

9.  Remember that one time when the tables were turned and Bean got a bath from a kitten? Not me, it totally slipped my mind! What a treat to rediscover this one!

10.  Well, I know I'll never forget this one, but it always makes me laugh, no matter how many times I play it.   It's never not funny, and that's why I put it on the list.

Tell me please, do you have a favorite IBKC feel-good video or post you like to visit when you're feeling down?  I was thinking it might be nice to have a page devoted to some of our best spirit-lifters for such times.  Let me know what you would like to see on your list.

  1. I have three. The post about the Great Frost Transport; the post about the Christmas surprise for the neighbors' kids; and the post and picture of the one kitten who had a nose-bump moment with Dear Drewey while she was on the deck. That last one especially makes me happy. :-) Love, Darin

  2. Hoping your clouds lift real soon !! Nothing like a kitty to help that along.

  3. Good gracious - the Gibsons with the kitten powered basket. Reminds me of the "Cat on Roomba" videos on the innerwebs.

    Thanks for the smiles!

  4. Wiley Knapp Likes to Leap! I dissolve into hysterical giggles whenever I see, "there are FOUR things Wiley Knapp is good at."

  5. What we all need is more cowbell AND a new litter. I love that you have these videos- and you have your own "baby pictures" of Wylla. Most people who get a kitten don't really have pictures of their teeny tiny pictures but IBKC alumni get to have their own videos, too.

  6. "Wiley Knapp loves to leap", especially with the poem in the comments written by a brilliant reader.

  8. Anything with The Kitten Whisperer or Olive the Human makes me smile. Oh and Kenneth Wiggins. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  10. i am not good with the kitty names but there was one where several kittens were on a bed following something off camera and they all followed it with their eyes/heads...except one who was a little out of time. i can see it in my minds eye but unfortunately cannot remember their names.

Willamena Bouvier with her tiny turkey paw-print makes me giddy every Thanksgiving -- or any time I decide to look at it throughout the year. Precious!

I love just about every photo/video you post. But the one that always fills me with such happiness is the one of a very baby Bean in a knitted cap napping on Craig's lap. I think you said that Bean wasn't yours yet, but you were just kitten sitting.

    Thanks, Laurie.

  14. Hope you feel better soon.

WRT vids/posts that lift my spirits-- Bibi dominating the couch (partly because of her name, same as the PM's, but also because it's just hilarious), and, of course, *anything* Warren! I just love his vaguely plaintive-- or something, well, many somethings, actually-- expression.

Again, best wishes and hang in there.--from Arowyn

  15. I recognize that signal to the mothership - it's kitty semaphore for 'send more kittens'! I remember that the last time Charlene did it, you got kittens within days!

  16. Is that Tressa Lovejoy giving Bean the bath? *swoon*

    1. It's one of the McGillicudy girls, though I can't recall which one.

  17. I loved Maeve and Delphine's adoption!

  18. Almost everything you post lifts my day (with the exception of the sad but necessary posts about the kitties taken away too soon by death). Checking your blog is the first thing I do at work every day because it gets things started off right!

  19. The 'Extreme Acts of Cuteness' videos with the Lamms (?) would be excellent additions. Bean signalling the mothership, basket surfing, and 'Wait For It' all crack me up every time I watch them and I'd love to see them on a pick-me-up page of videos.

  20. I don't know why, but the picture of a young Dearborn giving a big kitty yawn with the caption: "What is your name young lady?", with the reply "IT'S GERALDINE" often comes to my mind. The caption suits the photo so well, and she seemed an especially confident wee kitten :)

  21. Oh my! Such little furry spirit-lifters! I haven't seen an IBKC video that I didn't love! :)

  22. I have always loved watching the photo video you made of the Delightful Spooners. I love the music in it too. It reminds me that no matter how horrible things are in the world, there are good, kind creatures too. Hope your coming weeks are better, and thank you again for writing this blog. Now that Cute Overload has closed I need a double dose of IBKC often.

  23. My very VERY favorite is Kisses the kitten, trying hard to answer the phone on the IBKC fundraiser set, with your so-adorable script. I watched that one over and over and over -- "this is -- this is -- this is -- Kisses. Oh, I can't do this, Mommeee!" I was overwhelmed with the desire to swoop her up and snuggle!!

  24. I second the Ashraf/Kibblesmith adoption story. Also, baby pictures of
Pearla and Kisses the Kitten are so precious.

  25. Watching the Hollises caroming around their quarantine never fails to make me laugh, and the image of Linus Medley gleefully flashing the world is, to me, the prototypical IBKC moment.

  26. What about that one time that a kitten tried to wash Bean's tail and ended up with strands of fur nearly as long as the kitten's whole body! You could see the look in their eyes crying "I regret my choices!"

  27. My favorite is the kitten clown car with the pink basket. Also, the one of the little girl who got ringworm climbing up the side of her cage.

  28. 5, 8 and 10. Love Charlene's wave, the roomba/basket kitten and the paw. High-larious !!!

  29. I've shared this with you before, but the thought of Orson Davenport (particularly Orson flipping you the bird) still never ceases to make me laugh. This is probably one of my all time favorite posts and one that I revisit in my mind from time to time:

That boy truly stole my heart and if I was local I would have seriously wanted to adopt him.

There are so many other favorites, I do not know where to start. But among them are:
    Wylla winning your heart:
