The Cozy Bed Challenge!

DSC_5434

Three years ago, we offered up a match where our donations weren't met with dollars, but with handmade fleece kitty beds stitched by our friend Mary. This match has become a tradition,  and in these three years, Mary has stitched 180 beds!!

I met her at the Humane Society earlier in the summer and here's the stack she made last year!  She always picks out such fun patterns and colors.

Look at that stack! With last year's challenge, she was committed to making 35 beds, but she ended up making at least a dozen extra from the leftover scraps.

Mary is back, has a huge pile of fleece, and is ready to get stitching. I know the shelter will be happy to hear this -- they love the beds because they're machine washable, durable, and they make the cubbies cozy and the cats happy.

Mary experienced a tremendous loss this past year -- her young niece passed away. This year she is making and donating the fleece beds in memory of her niece, Kelcey, who was a lover of all cats big and small.  This photo of Kelcey was taken at a tiger sanctuary in Thailand a few years ago.

Mary, we are so sorry this young soul has passed. What a devasting loss for you and your family.  Our hearts go out to you.

For every $25 that's donated today, Mary will be matching it by making a fleece bed for a shelter cat.  She's game for stitching up to 40 beds, so I do hope we'll put her to work, and meet the cap on this match. We've got until 7:00 PM PST to meet her challenge.

We also have an anonymous lover of kittens who is offering up a $1000 matching challenge, SO, our donations aren't just matched with Mary's fleece beds but with dollars too!

There really isn't a better time to give during this fundraiser -- your dollars are doubled so your donations will help twice as much AND we're providing cozy beds for our shelter cat and kittens.

So please pay a visit to our fundraising page and make a tax-deductible donation.  Every amount helps. THANK YOU.

Thank you, Mary, for being so giving of your time and stitching up this incredible gift to our shelter cats.  Thank you to our anonymous donor for offering your generous match. Thank you in advance to all who help to complete our match today.

I'll be back with more -- we've got another kitten name to announce!

  1. Would Mary be willing to share instructions for her fleece beds? I'm sure other sewists (like myself) would like to make some for local shelters.
