Bye Boys!

As soon as our little Higgenbottoms arrived, a steady stream of emails from folks expressing interest in these kittens started flowing in. First in my inbox was a note from Allison, who was looking for a sweet pair of kittens. They had recently lost their dear senior cat, Teddy,  and were ready to bring some furry friends back into their home.  She shared a lot about her little family, they sounded like a great people, and we were excited to give them first pick at this litter.

Allison watched the blog along with her husband and two boys and got to know the kittens online. Once quarantine was up, we had them over for a visit so they could meet the Higgenbottoms in person and decide which two of these three cuties would be theirs.

They picked Monty and Harold, and I couldn't have been happier.  These two have been buddies from the start, and close in weight so their wrasslin' matches have always been equal.  They have great fun together, and I'm so happy this will continue for the rest of their lives!

Ear Today, Gone Tomorrow!

-OR-

DisappEAR Lashes!

Remember those sweet little "ear lashes" Miss Chesley was sporting when she came to us?   For the first couple of weeks they seemed to be getting longer, fuller, brighter and whiter, but then all of a sudden they began to fade.  Now, there's only a whisper of her once white wispy ear whiskers!

So you can compare, here's a before and after shot:

She's still just adorable, of course, but I am a little sad to see they seem to be going away.

One lovely new development is the tiny white heart taking shape on her nose! Look close, can you see it?

What a perfectly smoochable spot that is!

It Takes More Than That to Impress Harold Higgenbottom

I'm sorry, Monty, but Harold is not impressed with your Halloween cat pose.

But we are.

Well done, Monty. Well done.  You stretch to impress!

It's THAT Time Again!

DSC_0174

I know you're not going to like what I'm about to say,  but dear friends, it's time for goodbyes.  I know, I know, it seems like they just got here, but our Higgenbottoms weren't so tiny when they arrived, so we've known all along their stay with us would be brief.

Two of them packed their tiny suitcases and have left already. The other will be gone before the week is out.

Any guesses on who departed together?

As you know, I normally wait until all parties are out the door before I share the adoption tales,  so next week I'll let you know who went with who and to where!

I was just looking at their intake paperwork, and the boxes "friendly" and "scared" were both checked for each kitten. That's exactly what they were at first, but all became such loving, social and outgoing kittens. We sure have enjoyed spending this chapter with them.

We're going to miss you, little Higgenbottoms!

Especially moments like this:

Harold and the Bean

Sure, he's a wee bit young for her.

But they do make a lovely couple, don't they?

It's All Worth It

DSC_0900

I know the big cats do make sacrifices because we foster kittens. They're not always able to eat EXACTLY when they want to be fed.  Doors are closed and they're kept in or out of places when kittens are in our care. Naps are interrupted. Our time is monopolized, and they don't get as much playtime or supervised deck outings as they would like to have.

But when I see moments like this, I know that what they contribute to the lives of these little ones is valuable and makes a difference. Though Wylla and Charlene might not understand or agree with it, I feel those little sacrifices are all worth it.

Every Cat Has His Day

Because black cats are the trickiest of cats to photograph, I'm never able to take as many post-worthy photos of them as I do with the other varieties. Because of this, they always get a little less coverage on the blog.

Thankfully, Monty just happened to be sitting in some good light yesterday, AND he was sitting still, which is something he rarely does unless he's sleeping. In this light, you could easily see his marvelous, smokey coat and the wispy white hairs.  His coat is complex and so lovely.

Here's your day, Monty.  A whole post devoted just to you and your lovely self!

Let's all soak in this handsome boy!
