If you heard some screams coming from the north end of Tacoma around 6:28 AM - that was me. At the very moment I was processing all of this, several fire trucks drove down a nearby street with sirens blaring. I imagined that these sounds would be followed by balloons dropping, confetti flying, and soon Charlene and Wylla would appear and hand me a giant check for a half-million dollars. Of course this didn't happen, but it was a nice visual to accompany my glee.
When I first signed up to do this fundraiser, it really was just on a whim. I received the Dog-A-Thon brochure in the mail one day and decided it might be fun to give it a try. Here we are, seven years later, and this lovely and awesome community that surrounds the IBKC has generously given a half-million dollars to improve the lives of homeless cats and kittens in Tacoma, Washington.
I see first-hand this money put to good use. Changes are happening and things truly are improving. Our shelter cats are healthier, happier, lower in numbers, and adopted faster. This is all a result of the acts of you caring, generous folks. I hope you know how special you are and you understand how much you mean to me.
Thank you for having such huge hearts and for helping us reach this milestone.
You all are the BEST.
