WFS

DSC_0247

After months of kicking ideas around, I've finally decided on a middle name for our girl.  These things are important, and they can take time.

Her official, full  name is now Wylla Francis Stout.

I've always loved the name Francis - it's the middle name of both my grandfathers. I had been saving it for a special kitten, and well,  a kitten doesn't get more special than this one.  : )

I'm a fan of Saint Francis too,  patron saint of animals.  And she also reminds me of Frances from THIS book,  Bread and Jam for Frances.

I know that  traditionally, it's the male spelling of "Francis".  It was a deliberate decision to choose that version over "Frances".  I wanted to stay true to my grandfathers.

So, there you have it.
Wylla Francis Stout.

  2. Good choice. My grandfather's middle name was Francis, my mother's is Frances and my first name is Frances (but I'm called Franci). Traditionally, the 'is' ending of the name is male while 'es' is female. I like it either way. I'm already a Wylla fan, but now I feel the connection!

    1. I contemplated going the "es" route, but opted to stay true and go with "is".

  3. I like it! And speaking as a girl with a guy's name, I see nothing wrong with sticking to the "is" spelling.

  4. Love it. I remember Bread and Jam for Francis from my childhood too.

  8. I love all the Frances books! And I always liked the "is" over "es" regardless of gender. Maybe because I had a Francie doll when I was young and think that it came from "is". Either way, great name for Miss Wee!

  17. I like St. Francis, patron saint of animals, too, and I love, love the book "Bread and Jam for Frances" -- great choice of Wylla's middle name!!!

  18. We had a female Francis, too. She was a brilliant and loving little being, and we had "Bread and Jam for Frances" in mind when we named her, too. We lost her, at age 14, last June. I'm sure I will adore her for the rest of my life, and I just *love* that Wylla's middle name is Francis, too!

  20. There is a tradition in some parts of using a last name for a middle name. Francis as a last name just misses the top 400 in the US with over 84,000 people, so you could justify it that way.

  21. We added a new kitten to our home 2 weeks ago and named him Francis-it had never occurred to me as a name before, until we were signed the papers and were figuring out what to name him, but it's such a sweet name for a sweet kitty! I can already tell he's going to be a big, goofy, lovable hulk of a guy so Frankie will be an excellent nick name.

  25. I, too, am a Frances. I always think that when it takes time to name a cat, it's really that they are waiting to let you know. I have two kittens, the first one is Birdy Mango, she sounded like a bird and when I finally found her, I had to name her, she is a dark tabby with spots of orange, so her middle name is Mango after to calicos, Mango and Mango Chutney. The second baby came from my vet, he is gray and INSTANTLY told me his name is Dove and that he was coming home with ME! He ranks near the top for Best Kitten... What a hoot (no pun intended.) Yay Ms. Stout for finally reveling your full name!!

  28. Love it.. All of my cats have had middle names too: Ming Ling; Dusty Rabbit; Peanut Butter; Smudge Muffin; Cinder Ella. :)

One of my customers was quite jealous that my cats have middle names.. Her parents never bothered to give her one.

  30. How perfect! A girl with such a huge personality definitely needs a middle name, and I love the family associations with this one.
