A Very Special Kitten

DSC_0689

This little fellow is a very special boy. Not because he's cuter, sweeter, snugglier, or brighter than the other kittens (although he's very cute, sweet, snuggly and bright). He's special because this little guy is the 100th foster kitten to pass through our doors!

So, sound the sirens! Release the balloons! Toss the confetti! Bring on the catnip! Woot! We've got cause for celebration!!! Hooray for the 100 beautiful babies that we've had the pleasure of knowing over the past three and a half years.

We're so excited to be passing this milestone, and look forward to meeting the next 100 and beyond!

Thanks to all of you for sticking around through all these litters. We appreciate your support so much.

I'm curious, what litter were we hosting when you started following this blog? Do tell.

PS Yes, this is the fourth and final kitten from our new brood. Tomorrow we'll start finding out what their names are.

A Dapper Little Lad

This dapper little lad is marked like a tuxedo, but his coat is a velvety, charcoal gray with subtle stripes. I suppose you could say he's wearing his morning suit.

Lordy, Lordy it's a Torbie

Yep, a torbie. Tabby + Tortie = Torbie. I know, from the front, she looks all Tabby. If she ever stops running around, I'll get a picture of her backside so you can see her torti-ness. For now, just trust me, she's a Torbie.

DSC_0818

She's not our first Torbie. Perhaps you recall a little cute-pie named Tressa Lovejoy

So what's her name? I'll announce the names after you've seen the whole brood.

Double Feature!

It's movie time, friends, and today we've got a double feature.

I had SO many pictures of the Furmans, when I started making the first movie, it ended up being over eight minutes, which is pretty long to sit through. So, after I completed it, I decided that I should make a shorter, edited down version too.

So take your pick.. watch one, watch both,,, here we go....

We'll start with the short version.

.

And for you hardcore kitten fans, with a little extra time on your hands, here's the long one.

I should warn you, the music gets a little trippy, but it does mellow out again before the movie ends.

.

And because someone always asks:

The song in the short movie is "Love Cats" by The Cure
The song in the extended cat mix is "All Delighted People" by Sufjan Stevens

Enjoy!

Ambushed by Oliver

As I mentioned before, Charlene was wearing a camera on her collar and recording movies from a cat's perspective for Friskies.

Here's a little clip she captured of Oliver being a pesky little lad.

Edith and Roland get Rollin'

SO, yes. Edith and Roland departed together this weekend. They're now a part of a very nice, kitten-loving family which includes a six year old little girl and a big sister kitty too.

And when I say big, I mean BIG! Roo is 27 pounds. That's about 2.5 Charlenes. I've seen a pictures, and she's one floofy gal!

Add Roland and Edith to the mix and that's one very hairy kitty family!

Their new mom, Teresa, reports that the kittens are doing very well, are comfortable in their new surroundings, and the family is falling in love with them.

They'll be introduced to Roo in small doses. Most likely it will be a larger adjustment for her. Edith and Roland, are of course used to big floofy girl kitties.

During their last days with us, Edith and Roland we're giving full run of our house, day and night. They were pretty integrated into our lives, and we'll sure miss them.

I need a few days to recover from a long stretch of big litters and get things back in order. I've got to do some floor scrubbing and laundry too.

We'll have a new litter shortly, I'm sure. It may be before this week is out, it may be next week. We'll just have to wait and see what the Humane Society has to offer.

Until then, I'll have some alumni updates to share with you. Maybe we'll have some bean-cam footage too. We'll see.

So long little kittens. I want only good reports from your new mom. Please be kind to your new sister.

A Quiet Moment

Roland and Edith left for their new home yesterday. I'll have their full departure story for you tomorrow.

Today... I'll share with you this quiet little moment with Roland.

What a sweet little man. We're missing him already.

Naughty and Naughtier

The phone rang, and as I dashed to grab it, I noticed a roll of toilet paper strewn across the living room floor. Next to it, a blur of fur.

I grabbed the roll, tossed it up on the table, and answered the phone.

After I hung up, I discovered these two on the table nesting in the un-rolled roll.

That's two strikes, kittens.

AND it was the very last roll of TP in the house.

Make that three strikes.

The Final Shots of all Five Furmans

Here's the last batch of pictures of ALL the Furmans together. What beauties they are. Even though there's a great deal of diversity in this group, they still look like a little family, don't they?

There's a little story behind this last picture of Oliver. Shortly before these pictures were taken, Oliver hopped into the shower with me and got a little soggy. He gave himself a post-shower bath, which left his brow all mussed up.

Bye, Boys!

We're down to just two Furmans now - Curtis and Teddy said their goodbyes Sunday evening. Where did they go? It's kind of a long story, let me explain....

SOOOO remember Alison, who flew all the way from Virginia with her friend Eleanor to come to our house for Tea with The Bean? Well, while they were visiting the northwest, they stayed in Seattle with Alison's friend. This friend had a neighbor who just happened to be looking for kittens and they told her all about the IBKC. Judy, the neighbor visited our blog, contacted me, met the Furmans, and voila, Teddy and Curtis found their family.

Isn't that nice how it all worked out? And now, when Alison visits her friend in Seattle, she'll be able to check in on the boys for us!

The boys won't be alone either, they now have a sweet, mellow, black Lab for a sister! There may be some other dogs in their future too because their new family fosters potential service dogs!

It's nice to know they've moved in with some critter-loving people.

I just got an update from Judy, and it sounds like things are going REALLY great. Here's what she had to say...

We are so glad they are here - They are fun to watch, and seem to be doing great. Initially I blocked off ouur kitchen with our puppy gate, along with another gate bungied to it so that they could not climb under. It worked great all evening, with me sitting with them in the "reading room" off of our kitchen. And then I tried to leave the kitchen!!!! They climbed right over the gate, and followed me. Now they have run of the house, except for closed doors, and are wonderful.

My next door neighbor, a 5 year old, has adopted Teddy - she came over after kindergarten, carried him around, took them both on a "trip to Chicago" to visit a kitten camp (imaginary, of course, carrying them in the kitten carrier).

We are falling in love with the kittens - they are just want we wanted. I am sure there will be challenges ahead, but right now.....

And the dog? Teddy has already groomed her as she lay on her bed, and Teddy is a bit amazed of such a large creature chasing her tennis ball. I will send pictures.

Before the boys left, they got some Bean time in. Here are a few pictures of their final cuddle session.

EVERYTHING, with an Audience

I can't do anything without my kitten entourage. Seriously. Unless I tuck them away in their bedroom, they are with me, they are near me, they are on me, they are watching me. It's sweet for awhile, but they do make it difficult to accomplish any sort of task.

The other day, I was doing dishes and the whole brood was crying at my feet and climbing my backside. I tried to redirect their focus by pulling a chair into the kitchen and piling them on the seat.

This kept them busy for awhile, but eventually they figured out they could jump from the arm of the chair to the counter.

Fortunately, I finished the dishes and drained the water before Curtis landed in the sink.
