A Recheck with the Vet

DSC_2398

On Tuesday, I suited up Wylla in her harness, we hopped in the car and headed off to our vet for a recheck.

Wylla wasn't too thrilled with the car ride and let out a few peeps and cries on the way over there.  She's not the easy rider she once was!

Doc gave her a good once-over and took a urine sample.  Wylla is doing great.  The sample revealed a few bacteria still, but the antibiotics seem to be doing their job. We'll continue with those for another week, then go back for another recheck.

After we were all done in the examination room, we came out to pay the bill and Wylla roosted on the counter.  All the staff gave her a little loving and said goodbye. They are always so sweet to our girls and give them lots of attention and affection whenever we visit.  I do appreciate how much sweet they are to Wylla and Charlene --they sure do care about their patients!

Wylla's urine was a little thick which means she needs to take in a little more water. I've been adding more water to their wet food and refresh her water dish whenever she's in the kitchen with me.  She likes that and always laps a little as soon as I place her bowl on the floor.

Hopefully, this infection was just an isolated incident and our little girl won't have to go through this again!  When she was feeling low last week, she had the same expression on her face that she wore when she was a sick kitten.  I didn't like seeing that face again -- I much prefer the "healthy Wylla" face.

Thanks again for all of the good thoughts for our girl!  You all are the best! oxooxoxox

  1. Sorry Wylla was an unwilling traveler this time, perhaps the last frantic trip is still with her. And no one likes the "sick kitten face" - makes me really want a Universal Translator that speaks Cat. The Maine Coons send loving purrs to Wylla.

  2. We had to get a fountain after our boy had his bladder issues and it really helped. He loves fresh water and will beg us to turn on the faucets for him. (We haven't in ages, but he still begs, which truly shows how impressively persistent these monkeys can be!)

  4. My boy has had issues with bladder crystals in the past, and I've found that using a fountain has helped him to increase his water consumption. Plus, he's OBSESSED with it and loves to stick his entire head under the running water and paw at it, which is adorable and hilarious.

  6. Poor little dolly! So glad to hear Wylla is getting better; these things just take time, don't they? And I know you're like me, you'd rather it was you who were sick instead of of one of your precious pumpkins.

All of us here at Casa de Los Gatos send our love prayers.

  7. My secret weapon for getting cats to drink more water...a little dribble of olive oil in a bowl then filled with water. Works amazingly on my chronically dehydrated 17-year-old kitty; the vet wanted me to give him IV fluids and he was NOT into that at all!

    1. I also keep some waters up on the bathroom counters, since my kitties are always up there while we're doing anything in bathroom.

    2. LG likes to have a drink in the bathroom, too. We keep little paper cups in there, and he'll hop up on the counter and have a drinky from a cup (which we've filled for him).

    3. We have a heavy plastic 'high ball' style glass on the tank of the toilet and all of the Overlords love to stand there and get a drink. No bathroom counters here but the tank works for them.

  8. I just learned this - cats like their water further away from their food, so it doesn't get contaminated (it's a built-in instinct thing). I put a water dish in the craft room in between some plants, and my kitty loves it.

    1. Interesting. (Helen looks round wondering where to put a water dish!)

  10. When my Putzi had this problem, I started putting some salt-free chicken broth in her bowl to increase her liquid intake. She loved it, so it was a win - she still comes running if I shake the container years later! :)
I'm glad to hear Wylla is feeling better!

  11. Longish story short, I have found that one of my cats likes very warm water! I heat a thermos-pitcher full every morning and she will sit by her water bowl (when she wants water) until I top it off with the hot water to bring it up "to her standards". Yes, she has trained me, but she is a senior and I am just glad that she is drinking water!

  12. So many varied tips here for various forms of kitty finickiness. Thanks, everyone!

(My vet suggested putting a little tuna liquid, from a can of water-packed tuna, into their drinking water. That didn't work - they wanted nothing to do with it - but maybe one of these other suggestions will. One thing that does seem to be okay with them (aka "escape their notice") is mixing a little bit of extra water in their canned food, as Laurie said.)

    1. I find that working with every cat. It keeps the food from drying out too quick, and also they like to lick it a lot better than chewing the wet food. This trick is a great one every time. Even with dogs and kibble :)
