No Peas, Please!

IMG_7667

We serve the girls a variety of flavors of wet cat food each morning and their favorite, a medley of seafood,  also contains a few veggies too.

When we first tried this new flavor, they gobbled the whole dish up, but now they're getting pretty good at avoiding the peas.

Wylla's plate is on the right -- she just eats around them. Charlene, who's normally a member of the clean plate club, pushes the peas to the side in a tidy little pile.

Such persnickety little eaters they are!!

  1. Hahaha! Ours have a dislike of peas also. I guess it runs in our family :D

    ROTFL!!

I love the plates. Where did you get them? Do you know if they're available online?

    1. We've had them forever. I think I bought them for Drewey at least a decade ago. I can't recall where I bought them -- maybe at a Japanese grocery store in Seattle.

    2. I have some very similar dishes from a Japanese dish store.

  5. My boys don't like peas either. Levi also leaves the carrots alone as well

  6. So funny, I had an old girl cat that did that too. It made me feel validated as I very much dislike peas myself.

  7. Sorry, Laurie, this brings up a pet peeve of mine.

Cats are obligate carnivores or strict meat eaters and don't need or want vegetables. I don't know why the pet food industry keeps putting things like this in the foods they sell; cats aren't going to eat them. You have a perfect example of this with both Charlene and Wylla's preferences. I wish the industry would just stop pushing the vegetables and just sell the food that cats really need.

    1. I agree! I refuse to buy cat food that has "greens" or carrots or any other vegetable in them (or cheese). What a waste! Cats don't need to eat like humans or dogs do. They want meat and fish. I honestly think it's for the bag/can so that the picture on the bag/can "looks" like a balanced meal according to what humans eat instead of a picture of a balanced meal of what a cat should eat (a picture of a bunch of meat).

    2. Yes. Totally on the same page here.
I am a (human) nutritionist but did a stack of reading on cat nutrition when I finally was selected by a cat to be their human! My grain free cat food is expensive, but I am happy how well the big tabby lunk looks on it at age 10

  8. Ha, our three kitties do the same thing with peas and we laugh about it every time.

  9. Really cute dishies!...Aegir (our female) has a pink Disney Princesses dish (meant for little girls for cereal, but she's *our* little girl!). If the plastic ever bothers her, we'll give her stainless steel like the boys have, but so far it hasn't....With so many different kinds of craft paint out there now, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to make dishies with little semi-abstract kitty etc designs on them.

Yes, I say *dishie*. And *mousie* and *boxie*, LOL, and hubby does too at least sometimes. It's pointless to fight the urge to babytalk to a kitty, and besides, such usage instantly distinguishes between
human and cat dishes, real and toy mice, and cardboard and litter boxes!--from Arowyn

  10. BOL! (Bark out loud) Those two pussy cats seem to be great food critics! Are they on the Food Network? BOL, if not, they totally should be on it! :-D I must admit, you cats have great taste, even though you're kitties, and I'd feel the need to chase you!

  11. Maybe it's Wylla who really doesn't like peas and Charlene is abstaining in feline solidarity!

  12. My cats did the same thing! And then one day, don't ask my why, I mashed the peas for them...and now they eat their peas (what does this say about my cats???)

  13. Peas are the bane of a kitty's existence. Even my old girl, who eats with the speed and urgency of a stray, which she once was, has made her contempt ultra-clear.

  14. My dog licks the peas clean and leaves them in a pile on her plate

  15. Wonder if the shape of the peas and the feel of the hull signify the possibility that they are something harmful, like a poisonous berry? My cats eat all-meat kitty food but do enjoy a little salad, provided they are allowed to forage for it themselves in the yard. And my stray kitty, who is not picky, loves a tiny treat of cheese when she can get it. But I agree with Laurie's cats that peas are somehow sinister and best left alone.

  16. I love tricking the kitties into eating some peas and carrot! hehe

  17. My dog used to do that, but, my current cats gobble them up. Surprise!

  18. Too funny! My cat Stache absolutely loves peas!

  19. Two wise little girls!

They know peas should only be eaten fresh from the pod on the back porch after harvesting!
