A Sweet Senior Story

I shared this story with you once before, but because we're talking about Senior Cats today, I thought it would be nice to share it again.

This sweet story came from our shelter's Facebook Page:

This gave us all happy tears! Yesterday, a man came in and adopted this really sweet fourteen year old cat, Gus. When we asked why he chose a senior, he said with a big smile on his face: “Well, a few years ago I was diagnosed with cancer, and the doctor gave me really bum odds. So when my cat passed away, I didn’t want to get another one. I really missed having a cat, though.

But then the treatment worked, and today the doctor told me he couldn’t find any signs of the cancer. He said I was all clear! So when I left his office, I drove straight here to get myself a cat. I liked Gus right away, but I saw that he was pretty old. Then I thought, ‘Well, I might outlive him, or he might outlive me. It doesn’t really matter. We’re going home.”

I love those special folks who adopt to special Senior Cats.  Congratulations to Gus on finding his human!  May you have many, many wonderful years together!  Just goes to how, you're never too old to have a bright future!

  1. Both my cats are seniors Gabriel is now 17 and we adopted him when he was 8 and Ollie is 13, we adopted him when he was 12. I cannot imagine loving any cats more and the time together is even more precious knowing that it is limited.

  4. I loved this one then, and love it still. It's the "We're going home." part that gets me, every time.

  5. You do reach a point where you realize that if your new kitten lives to be 21 (like one of mine did), this might be your last kitty. It is a poignant moment. It is a blessing to adopt an older animal- for both of you.

  7. That story always brings tears to my eyes. It would be lovely to get an update on Gus and his human, but I know they're happy, wherever they are.
