Meeting, Greeting, and Tree is Still Standing

The Trimbles were finally released from quarantine. Hooray! They were curious, but cautious as they exited their room and entered the big world.   Bean was right there to say hello.  You can see for yourself on the video below...

They are kind of timid in this new setting, which is often the case when kittens are released.  I think the big open space is a little intimidating for them.  They prefer being under things and closer to the walls rather than in the center of the rooms.   The sound of a crinkly mylar ball or the waving of a feather wand will quickly draw them out and make them forget any fears they may have, so we've been spending a lot of time playing with them.

I'm happy to report our tree is still standing.  The Trimbles did bat at the lower branches, but no one attempted to climb it.   They do like playing beneath it, and have had a great time wrestling on and under the tree skirt.

Even though they're being good, I don't think I'll leave them unsupervised in the living room.  It only takes a second for a kitten catastrophe to happen.

  1. Oooh! I see someone can curl the end of their tail like a grown-up kitty! How sweet.

  2. When we do put up a tree (too much travel to mess with it usually) we.... hang it upside down from the ceiling. Really! Keeps the cats out of it, the ornaments are much more visible, and there's all that room underneath for presents ;-) Then there's that ?!? factor from anyone that comes in the house.
I don't know if you already do this, but one thing we've done for a few friends with cats is to run a thin rope or wire from the top of the tree to a toggle bolt in the ceiling. Keeps the tree from falling if little ones (furry or otherwise) get too playful.

  3. Our tree is fresh, so hanging it upside down isn't really an option! Real trees are pretty heavy. I think it would take all three Trimbles hanging from the top to take it down. : )

  4. Love dat little wooly bear you've got there, Miss Charlene! Make sure he doesn't get entangled in the Christmas tree.

  5. Awww, that was a sweet video - I loved how Bean gave them a few pats with her paw, and also how they don't seem the least bit afraid of her!

  6. I never really realize how truly itty bitty the babies are until I see them next to an adult like Ms Bean. Sniffs, paw pats, friendly tail positions - ahh, the meet and greet was a success.

  7. The Bean is wonderful!! Our babies got out for the first time last night too and bopped down the hall like they owned the place!!

  8. So very cute to watch them with the tails straight up, exploring their newly expanded world!

I used a loop of fishing line from the top area of my tree to one of the old valance brackets by my patio door. No more crashing tree, just serious leaning when Marbles, my 11# growed up cat tried to explore the vertical

  9. So sweet! Amazing how many thousands of years of survivalism are bred into their genes - stay low to the ground, stick against a well or under something - anything to reduce the chances of a hawk or other attack. :) Not that there are hawks at IBKC HQ. Yet! :D They are super adorable - love how they presented, even for a nano second, a face or tale for a quick sniff/lick from Queen Bean. :)

  10. that charlene is awesome. that was fun to see a first meeting laurie, thank you :). she took to those kittens like my bilal took to shlomo when i brought him home for bilal to have a playmate. lalie gently attacked, gently bathed, and eventually, that day, they were playing like long-lost brothers. (lal was ~7mos and lomo was ~6 weeks when they came together)

  11. For timid babies, they sure took the Bean encounter in stride. Looks as if everyone simply expected it to work that way, so it did. Impressive and adorable.

  12. I can't get over how good Charlene is with the kittens!

  13. Does Charlene ever pick up kittens by the scruff of the neck and carry them like mama cats do?

  14. Charlene is such a good girl! And the Trimbles are adorable.

  15. Bean is beautiful and she handled the wee ones wonderfully. I'm thinking they will take over the place is short time. I don't think we would trust them with a fully loaded tree. NOT!

  16. Smart kittens; they know right away that the Bean is their friend!

We used to tie the tree to the ceiling when we had rambunctious younger cats. Some years it looked like the angel was trying to hang herself.

  17. Who is adult cat that scurried through the doorway at the very beginning of the video? I know you have Charlene, but I wasn't aware of any other cats?
BTW, the babies are adorable, and of course CBB does a wonderful welcome job.

  18. Such sweet little ones, especially the bobbing tails. And I can't get enough of seeing Bean's little white feet.

BTW, you'd be doing me a kindness if you had a speck of dirt or bit of cat hair on your floor. Then, I wouldn't feel like such a giant slob.

  19. Goldie, I don't think it's an adult cat. I believe it's an exceptionally poofy Monroe Trimble. Once he's next to the other kittens, he looks like a puffier version of their size in comparison.

Laurie, Thank you for the video of their meeting the Bean. Yet again, she proves what a wonder she really is. My Simba is tolerant of other animals, but he takes an hour or forty to make the adjustment. All hail Queen Bean!

  20. Goldie Goodwin, I think the adult cat you are seeing at the beginning of the video is the ghost of Drewey. Only sensitive people like you and me can see her. All these other people see is three kittens and Bean.

  21. Aww... Willard is so tiny! And check out the gigantic belly on Bess! It looks like it's about to touch the ground in a few frames!

I am completely and totally smitten with these babies.

  23. When we got our kitten six years ago, we were advised to keep her in a small space for a few so she wouldn't be overwhelmed and could acclimate. That lasted about twenty minutes since all she wanted was OUT of the bathroom we'd set up as a kitten haven. And she zoomed around like a crazy thing for months non-stop. Heh.
