Kittens Gotta Climb

come on......you can do it...

just a little bit highergive me a boost, will ya

it's lonely at the top

We don't have any of those giant carpeted cat trees in our home. We should, I know kittens love them, they just don't seem to work with our decor.

As much as I try to the discourage the kittens' urge to go vertical, I can't.

I made this tree for an art installation a couple years back. The kittens discovered it the other day, and since then, they've been completely obsessed with climbing it.

I did have to move the tree out of harm's way, and into the a closet. It was fairly sturdy at first, but with every climb to the top, it was weakened. It was only a matter a time before it toppled over, or they completely destroyed it.

Even though they were driving me crazy with their tree obsession,, I have to admit, it's kind of fun picking black and white polka-dot kittens from a hot pink tree. They just looked so good in it

  4. What gorgeous picture! Love the black and white polka dots among the red leaves...awesome!

As for cat trees, there are now nicer and more stylish ones than the standard carpeted cat trees of old...I got a beige-colored wood kitty condo from Petco which is relatively nice-looking...kitties love it and even Husband said it's tolerable enough to have it in the living room :)

  11. Karen - But of course! You must get for them every little thing their hearts desire! I'm sure that's a condition of adoption.

  12. Alot of the cat trees on the market are manufactured with formaldyde laiden carpet and glues. I buy from http://www.catsplay.com/. Alot of their builders use natural wood and safe glue and products that are less harmful to kitties;)

  13. In these gorgeous pictures, the two black and white spotted young ladies know just how good they look.

The tree is made of black branches with a handful of bright reddish pinkish leaves on each branch. It's standing against a white wall, and so expecting the kitties not to climb around something that makes for such a good background is really being unreasonable. ;-)

The branches are quite slender, with the thickest probably smaller than the average woman's pinkie finger, which means that even an itty bitty kitty can cause some serious bending and swaying.

  15. What a beautiful series of photos... the colors are amazing together.

With the talent you have to have built this first, too flimsy for kittens tree, you could surely built something more stylish and durable for them?

And if you did, you might be able to market and sell it, because the available cat tree options are mostly hideous.

  19. Do the LaBath Ladies tend to hang together in their matching pairs or is this just good timing with the photographs?

  20. I cannot BELIEVE that these little sweeties haven't been spoken for!! What is it with people? Is it the economy? Are they just too much in awe of these babies that they think themesleves to be unworthy?

  21. It's the best pussy willow tree in the whole world.

  22. Good gravy, these girls are amazingly beautiful in that tree! Laurie, I think the tree should be an accessory available to the girls upon adoption. Every set of twin black & white kitties needs a pink tree.

It was mighty slow in the Cattery today but we did find homes for big girl Gizmo (I think she set a record ~ she was only there about 30 minutes before getting adopted!) and Chico (sweet sweet big buff tabby boy). Two loud YAYs!

And Sue & Laurie stopped by! Two more loud YAYs!!
