Bathtime for Bernadette

bernadette

Poor little Bernadette was looking a bit crusty yesterday and was in serious need of a bath.

So into the sink she went. She was such a good little girl. She didn't make a single peep the whole time she was in the water. She just waited patiently while Kim gave her a good scrub down.

Next, a rinse,, followed by a towel dry. Get a load of those ears !!!
bernadette loves the blow-dryer
Finally the hair dryer.. which she just loved. You can see she's enjoying the warm air blowing on her belly.

After it was all over, she was tucked into her nice warm bed and went right to sleep.

All of the other Mayfields got baths yesterday, but she was the bravest. Everyone else wiggled and peeped. Incidentally, Bernadette means "brave as a bear". How fitting.

  1. I can hardly stand it she is so cute. Makes me want to come down there & adopt a baby sister for Sam. :-)

  3. I always thought that blowdrying a cat would give it pneumonia (at least that's what I've heard). Also my vet tells me a cat doesn't need to be bathed unless it's infested with fleas... how come there's such a difference of opinion on that?

  4. Anon.. These kittens don't have a mom to clean them, and they are not old enough yet to do it themselves. They are in a really messy stage right now. They are just learning to eat wet food. They step in it and get it all over themselves. Transitioning from the bottle to solids rocks their system, so they get diarrhea. At the same time, they are learning to use the litter box. They step in their poo, get it stuck in their fur, track it on the others. We bathe them when it becomes absolutely necessary. The quickest way to get them dry is with a hair dryer. Afterward, they are tucked into a heated bed.

Yes, there's no need to bathe a grown cat, unless you are treating fleas. This is a different situation.

  5. Garsh, she is such the tiny thing! So reminds me of when I fostered (and ended up adopting) a lil 2-wk old abandoned kitten. Good luck, and wish I lived nearby ;-)

  6. Boy! With those ears down she looks a bit like a gremlin. A very cute adorable gremlin!

  7. I've just commented on some of Bernadette's Flickr pics...she does remind me so much of my cat Molly (who's five now). She was such a tiny little thing when she came to live with me, and someone commented on how big her ears were...I got very offended! lol...I'm happy to report she has grown into them now.

I agree with the meaning of Bernadette's name! What a brave little girl.

  8. Is she caught up to her brothers and sisters in weight? She looks like she's grown since that first photo!

What does Charlene Butterbean think of the newest batch? I'm sure that dear Drewey thinks "Harrumph. I am a respectable neutered lady with no time for kittens."

  9. So is Charlene waiting in the wings, or has she finally had enough of the mothering gig? I sure wouldn't blame her if she decided that six is too many!

  10. She is soooo adorable. AAAHHH! I can hardly take it! So cute.

  11. I hadn't thought of that, but you surrogate mommies doubtless do have to bathe the wee ones early on. When they get bigger I suppose Charlene does take care of them, but for now, it's good they have you (wow, if I had a dollar for every time I've said or thought that, I could come out, take an apartment for a while and adopt ME an IBK....)

  13. WOW - I am about to go [[THUD]] from all this cuteness!

This is my first litter from the beginning and this is so awesome.

Seeing a great foster team in action is a sight to behold.

Thanks so much for sharing the experience.
