Five years ago, the Humane Society started up a new program. It's basically a meals-on-wheels for cats, designed specifically to help elderly or disabled pet owners on fixed incomes who are having a difficult time affording the cost of feeding their precious pets. Transportation often is an issue for them, and this delivery program brings pet food and supplies to their doorstep. The shelter delivers food and cat litter to over 200 homebound folks on a monthly basis. These numbers are growing each year.
It's such a valuable program because often cats are surrendered to the shelter when their owners feel they can no longer afford to feed them and give them the care they need. By delivering food and supplies, it helps keep cats in their loving homes where they belong and out of the shelter.
Today's donations will help fund this program!
Today's donations will also help fill the shelves of the Emergency Pet Food Pantry at the Humane Society. This food bank supplies pet food to those who are in temporarily in need. Owners of over 500 cats receive food through the food bank at the shelter each month. Like the delivery program, it helps keep pets where they belong - with their families.
I love how far the reach of the Humane Society is --- not just helping the cats contained within the walls of the shelter, but going far beyond to help cats and their owners in our community.
We're devoting a whole day to bring in donations to fund the very important Kitty Meals-on-Wheels program and the Emergency Pet Food Pantry. Any amount you give until 8:00 AM tomorrow (Pacific Time) will help keep these valuable programs running and keep people and their pets together!
To help inspire us to give, our dear friend Cynthia is offering up another generous matching donation challenge. She will match every dollar we give until we hit the $5000 cap! The challenge will run until 7:00 PM tonight (Pacific Time).
