The Other Fishkin Twin

Mose_1

Please give a warm welcome to the other Mose Fishkin, the second half of the Fishkin Twins.

He outweighs his brother by three ounces. He's a tiny bit longer and there's more girth in the belly department.   The size difference is the easiest way to tell them apart -- there are really no distinguishing marks as they are both solid black.  Their faces have similar shapes and so do their eyes.  They both have the same sweet kitten lips.  They are equally adorable.

When I look at them both, in reality, I know who is who is, but in photographs, it's not as easy.   We'll learn their subtleties and in time they'll seem as different as night and day, I'm sure.  But right now,  it's night and night!

  5. I want you to know that I had your page open all morning, refreshing... waiting to meet the second Fishkin! And here he is, and what a beauty!

I hope you will report on the quality of their coats... they may look plain black, but I am sure they are the softest of fur coats!

  10. How does one go about training cats to walk on leashes???

    1. We trained one of our cats when he was an adult, but I suspect it would have been much faster and easier if he'd been a baby. For the first few days, we just put the harness on Basil, buckled the belly band, and left it really loose. He ran away, so there was no way to adjust it to fit while he was wearing it anyway.

When he stopped running away after we put the harness on, we attached the leash and then took him outside for short bursts. Now he recognizes the sound of the harness being picked up and comes running. He also pretty much puts the harness on himself--puts his head through the loop and picks up his left foot to put in the right place. He's learned that putting on the harness means he gets to go outside, and that's a lot of fun for him.

I'm not sure how it is with Wylla, but with Basil, he's very much the one leading the way. Unlike a dog, we cannot just lead Basil where we want him to go. If we want him to go somewhere specific, we have to pick him up and put him there. Ah, cats...

  12. One of my great-grandfathers took the name Fishkin when he came to this country. It was my mother's original maiden name. (The 1950 Red Scare had to change it again.) So seeing two little kittens with that same name is very strangely heart-warming. Just wish Mom liked cats.

  17. awww, so lovely! How unusual to get two totally black littlies with no distinguishing marks. I expect something will turn up soon :) Their mama would have been able to smell and taste them to tell them apart - lovely.

  18. Great black and white (and black) photo. I sometimes use nail polish on back toes of one twin until I can tell my fosters apart. Gail

  20. Oh goodness, these fellas are making me so homesick for our House Panther, Ramses. We had to say goodbye to him in May and there have been so many times the tears overcome me since then.
