Pleath Thay Hello

When the new brood moved in, they were a wee be scared and tucked themselves into their bed in the back of their cage,. All sat watching me as I filled their water and food dishes and told them about what they should expect during their stay with us.

They were hiding in the shadows, so it was difficult to see more than three pairs of shiny eyes, but once I rolled up the window shade and let the sun in, I noticed that two of these kittens had their tongues sticking out. One revealed just an itty-bitty pink tip, but one kitten, this kitten you're looking at right here, was giving me a full-on  raspberry.

Now, I've seen kittens do this every now and again, and a couple of former fosters had a habit of falling asleep this way. Some kittens pause mid-groom and their tongues stay out for a few seconds, maybe a minute at most, but this kitten does it nearly all of the time. I would estimate that 85-90% of her day is spent with her teeny-tiny tongue on display.

Her brother does it a lot, but not as frequently as she does.

I took a peek inside her mouth to see if there were any unusual things inside, but every thing looked good -- no ulcers, injuries, sores, or abnormalities that I could detect. Yesterday, her eye did start getting a little runny, so there may be an upper-respirty issue, and perhaps there's a connection there.

We'll be going in to see the doc later today and hopefully we can figure this all out. I don't feel like it's something to worry about, and hopefully Doc will confirm that.

 OH, and her name.

Pleath thay hello to Cleo Framboise.  I'm just going to assume she talks with a lisp.

  8. Oh, come *on* - if she's going to have a lisp then she's got to have a lispable name - Sassafras, maybe (Sassy for short).

  11. So darn cute! My Abby Gail often has her tongue out and I think it's because she has a slight overbite. Otherwise, she's healthy.
