Goodbye to Our Little Gray Girl

DSC_0120

About the time the Higgenbotoms moved in with us, Elton, who volunteers at the Humane Society, posted  a message on the HS Volunteer Facebook page stating that he had been on a long search for the perfect kitten.  Mister, his big orange boy cat, was showing signs that he was in need of a playmate, and Elton really wanted to find a kitten that would merge easily into their home and be a great buddy for Mister.  He also really wanted a kitten that was a good "lap cat" and was loving and affectionate, too.

Chesley seemed like she might check all of his boxes, so I sent a message to Elton asking if he might like to meet her.  He came over the next Saturday to visit with our little gray girl and quickly fell in love with her.

At that point, the kittens had some growing to do before they were ready for adoption, so Elton had to wait three weeks for his girl. I'm sure these weeks were long and torturous, but this gave him plenty of time for him to prepare for her arrival. Though Elton felt Mister really wanted a friend, he wanted to make Chesley's introduction to him was slow and stress-free.  He set up a room just for her where she could get comfortable and acclimated before she went nose-to-nose with Mister.

Finally, adoption day came on Friday, and here she is in Elton's arms.

Congrats on your new little kitten, Elton! We hope Mister and Chesley become the best of buddies and you have the loving lap cat you've always wanted!

Do stay in touch -- we're all curious to see how this little beauty develops!

    1. She was ready from the first moment (I think the second day home) that she saw him in the hallway from her room. She attempted to run up to him.

What a cutie Chesley is, she caught my eye right from the beginning.
And from personal experiece...Big orange boys and little gray girls are a nearly perfect combination. In our house they become a snuggle puddle of pure happiness several times a day, it's a complete joy to behold. :-) I hope Mister and Chesley will share the same adoration for one another and bring happiness to their human as a result.

  9. Thank you everyone!

I have been fostering kitty's for the Tacoma Humane Society and other organizations for countless years and have had my own Itty Bitty Kitty groups with fun family names. Those names just "came to me" after a short while getting to know each of those kitties. (I took a ton of pictures but never got any as good as Laurie's.) While I expect that those names will change with their new families, I wonder how many kept the names I gave them. As I had planned to change Chesley's name to whatever came to me after a little while at our home and she shows us more of her personality, I kept calling her "little Gray Girl" in my head during the tortuous weeks I had to wait for her to come home with me. And on the day I came to pick her up, Laurie shared some personal information about Chesleys name. With all that Laurie does, I want to honor how she took care of this girl and allowed for me to bring her into my life. So at this time I have settled on the name Chesley Gray.
I want to let you all know that after two weeks, Chesley Gray has finally been introduced to her new brother. It didn't take long. They are playing like crazy. They love each other.
Thing is... take a wild guess as to which one is the bully.
