Spooky Stuff!

IMG_9622

Last Christmas, Target came out with a cardboard gingerbread house for kitties. We purchased one for Wylla and Charlene and gave several as gifts, too. It was a huge hit in our house, and many of your homes as well.  Several of you started posting photos of your kitties enjoying their houses on our Facbook wall, so we asked that you send them to us, and we posted photos of this whole cardboard kitty city HERE.

In the post,  I made a shout-out to Target and asked if they could create some of these houses for other holidays, too. I suggested a kitty love shack for Valentine's Day and a haunted house for Halloween.  They replied with this in the comment section:

Hi From The Target Headquarters Design Team :) Thank you for all your Scratch House Product Love ! You really have made our day---- We work hard to design fun and whimsical Cat ideas that we hope everyone will love....... so THANKS. Please stay in touch, and please know that we are working on many new ideas! Including the Haunted House Idea for you.... Cheers! Jill & Chelsea

I was at Target on Sunday doing a kitty litter run, and was so excited to discover that their new Haunted House was on the shelves.

I brought one home, assembled it with some assistance from big cats and kittens, and just like the Gingerbread House, it was an instant hit. I know, I know, it's a little early for Halloween, but the cats don't seem to mind that we're pushing the season a bit.

Wylla loves lurking inside the house and waiting for Bart and Fielding to come trick-or-treating at her door. The boys love swatting at the dangling ball scratching the scratch pad. Charlene gave the house a good sniffing and stuck her head inside, but hasn't passed through the threshold completely yet.  Perhaps, it's too spooky.

I posted a brief video on Instagram of the cats and kittens enjoying the Haunted House and today I have the extended version of the video feating Wylla and both of the Mittenflosses.

Thanks, Target! In the future, if you need a focus group to test your products, we've got your demographic living right here under our roof! I've got lots of ideas for kitty houses, too, so give us a holler if you would like some input!

I've already seen lots of your cats and their haunted houses on Facebook. Send them our way, and we'll do a Haunted House round-up around Halloween!

  1. I love how Wylla's coloring matches the Haunted House.
And I love how Target listened and replied. I wonder if they REALLY know how big your demographic is! Going to get one for my 2 Maine Coons. Will let you know if they fit inside or not.

    1. You may have to cut a larger door!

    2. One of my kitties, who is a rather large girl, completely pulled apart the gingerbread house last year. As she ran away the doorway was stuck around her middle! LOL.

    3. My big boy demolished our Gingerbread house on multiple occasions. If this one comes in our house, I'm going to have to reinforce it when we set it up!

    4. I reinforced ours with clear packing tape on the inside of the houses. It helps keep them together, although they still can knock the house off the foundation!

  3. I think lovely Wylla should be the kitty model for the Haunted House because her coloring matches so well, and because she is a simply gorgeous kitty! *smooches* for Wylla, Charlene and those adorable Mittenflosses!

    1. Seconded. Her coloring is especially perfect for fall. Target would be foolish not to hire her.

  4. I saw your Instagram post on Saturday and was totally excited to see a new holiday house. I missed the Christmas house craze last year. I'm heading out after work today to pick up a Halloween house for my kitten!

  5. Bart Mittenfloss' teeny tiny paws as he scratched on the floor of the haunted house...thud. Goodness those kittens are cuties!

  6. You can push any holiday, any time, if it involves holiday houses for cats. Wylla's paw shooting out of the house at Fielding at the beginning of the video cracked me up, and the way Wylla streeeeeeetched out to try and reach the boys, but wouldn't actually get up and move, was incredibly cute and the epitome of the Lazy Kitty Syndrome I see in my two furkids. Her floofy stretch and roll is fabulous, and I suspect she knows just how to work what her mamma gave her to exert maximum Human Manipulation Effect. ;D

  7. The haunted house (and the wee kittens) really show how wee Wylla is not so "wee" anymore!
