The Happiest Girl in the World
Our little friend Opal turned nine this weekend and a party was thrown in her honor. A dozen or so of her friends joined her for pizza, cake, and ice-cream at King's Books on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after all of her friends had arrived at the party, I slipped into the store with a crate full of "surprise guests" and with help from Opal's mom Jennifer, we quickly adorned Ramona, Trixie and Myron Clover with tiny party hats.
As you can imagine, there was quite a chorus of squeals once the girls realized what was going on.
The adults held the Clovers and the girls were each allowed a chance to pet the kittens. In of all my days, I don't think I've ever seen children as excited as these girl were. We asked them to stay quiet so they wouldn't startle the kittens, but all of this excited energy had to be realeased somehow, so there was a whole lot of waving of arms, jumping up and down and many happy dances.
After everyone had a chance to meet the kittens, Opal took a seat on her birthday thrown, the Clovers were placed on her lap, and her friends surrounded her so we could take a few photos.
I'm pretty sure that in this moment, Opal was the happiest girl in the world. Friends, kittens, a tiara - it does not get much better than this when you are nine!
Jennifer reported later that night, that according to Opal, it was "the best birthday ever".
