No Soup for You!

IMG_2805

Since Wylla's ability to process food has improved drastically, I decided to try changing the consistency of what she's been eating to something slightly more solid to see if she can handle it just as well.  Normally I combine one can of wet chicken paté with a third of a can of water and blend them together using a stick blender until they're smooth.  This weekend I tried adding water to the wet food, but not blending it into "soup".  Instead, I stirred it and left it somewhat lumpy.

Wylla happily scarfed it down.

I watched her closely, and nothing indicated she struggled one bit to process it, so every meal she had this weekend was "solid" and not "soup".  She seems to prefer her food this way, so as long as her body is fine with it, we will continue it!

I know I've been going on and on about how well she's doing, but it just so remarkable to me that after two years of struggling, all of a sudden things are SO much better.  It's really like a switch inside of her was suddenly switched.

When we first decided to keep this girl, things were much different for her. We we were feeding her 6  to 8 meals a day, and after each, we would hold her vertically for ten minutes to help her digest. I thought that's what life with her would always be like, and we were fine with that, but it is so nice that she's grown up to be kind of "normal" and her care is so much easier than it once was.

It feels so good to see her feel so good! Hopefully all her days of struggling are far behind us now!

  1. That's fantastic news, Laurie! I was going to ask if you were still holding her upright after her meals, but you have answered the question! And don't apologize for telling us every detail of Wylla's care. I, for one, take great joy in reading about her progress. I have followed the Wee One since you brought her to your house, and I look forward to the updates. And I share your joy at her progress. Perhaps I should apologize to you for intruding in your life, and constantly wanting to hear how she's doing! :-)

  11. DEAREST Laurie! Perhaps she's outgrown her tummy troubles; whatever it is, she's become - well, the best an IBKC kitten can be. No surprise. I wonder if she and Charlene Butterbean know how much genuine adoration flows their way? (I hope YOU know how much your care of kitties is appreciated? My Evangeline worships you, and I don't dissuade her.)

    1. My vet calls good poops "tight little tootsie rolls." Unfortunately, that has turned me off tootsie rolls now...

  14. Such happy news. It can be done! Many kitties are needlessly euthanized for this health problem! It took a lot of work and patience on your part but it was well worth it
