Their Own Little Holiday House

I went to Target last night to stock up on kitty litter, and discovered this Gingerbread House in the holiday pet section. It was too cute to pass up, so into the cart it went. Actually, I bought two, they were only $10.

It was an instant hit.  No surprise there! It's made of cardboard and Wylla and Charlene are cats. While I was trying to assemble it, they were all over it and trying to rub their faces against each piece.

Once assembled, Wylla hopped right in and did a little scratching on the corrugated base. She did some sniffing and chewing, and has already left many "kitty staple" marks on the edges. Bean checked it out too, but it's not quite tall enough for her to stretch out and scratch in it.  It's much better for small and medium-sized cats.

  2. I enjoyed this entire post, but perhaps this the most: "It was an instant hit. No surprise there! It's made of cardboard and Wylla and Charlene are cats."

    Ha! SO true!

    1. That was my favorite part, too! Cats are so predictable in some ways...

I now have to visit our local Target and see if they carry these. Christmas may come early to our cats, too.

      Also, "kitty staple" = LOL!

  3. I will have to check this out, as my little one loves getting into and under things. A few years ago Target made a round, bullseye cat scratcher and it is the only scratcher any of my cats ever went near, so I have high hopes for this!

  4. This house is so cute, but I bet Laurie already has some ideas about decorating it even more for the holidays! (Or I hope you do - you added so much personality to just plain boxes before that this just makes me want to see more of your craftiness!) :)

  6. That is so cute! love the snow-covered roof.

What is it about cardboard that cats love so much. One of my guys, Tiger, has a couple cardboard box forts that he just loves to hide in and scratch.

This post reminded me of a video link that was on The Animal Rescue Site yesterday of a (homemade?) kitten cardboard playhouse. It made me think of the Von Tussles and imagined how cute it would've been to see them playing in a similar playhouse. Here's the line: http://blog.theanimalrescuesite.com/kitten-playhouse

  12. I'll look for these next time I go to Target. Will there be one for the kitten room? I can picture three or four of them cuddled in there taking a nap.

  14. Charlene should fit if you take off the front :D Last year's model was still stable even without the front piece.

  16. Thanks for the product alert, Laurie!!! We are the proud owners of 2 little houses now, thanks to you. My little orange boy, Jonah, has somehow figured out that when he's inside, he can prop up a front paw in a back window and use that arm as a pillow. Ridiculously cute to see an ear and a paw sticking out of one of those windows, let me tell you.

Also, at random times, I'll walk by, and I'll note that one of the cats will be lying down inside one of the houses (we put them in different locations). The cat in question won't be doing anything special - He or she will just be relaxing, enjoying watching the world go by.

    Huge, huge win.

  19. I love when you discover a new product for your girls; it’s so fun to see them exploring it and making it their own.

Since I order so many items online, I just save the boxes for our three cats, occasionally cutting windows in them to add interest.
