Giving Thanks

not all kitties can do this

If you've been hanging out around the IBKC for a while, you know this photo. That adorable paw belongs to adorable Willamena Bouvier, who we had the pleasure of fostering many, many years ago.

We've made it a tradition to share this photo each Thanksgiving.

I'll be taking a break tomorrow to celebrate the day, so I'll give my "thanks" today.

I am so thankful for this community of ours and the positive place that it is. Thank you for only contributing kindness.  I'm thankful for the many ways you support us and what we do. Your actions remind me daily that there is much good and great compassion in the world.    I'm so thankful every single one of you.

I'm thankful that our little Lumpkins are safe and recovering in their new home. I'm thankful for all who helped facilitate their move, and for their new foster mama, who's taken over their care. I'm thankful that the situation wasn't worse, because it easily could have been.  I'm thankful for the good work our shelter does each day, and the giving, huge-hearted folks that work and volunteer there.

I hope you are all feeling loved and connected. I hope you are happy and healthy. I hope you have more reasons to be thankful for than you can count,  but if you feel like you only have a few in this moment, I hope you can focus on those.   I hope you are surrounded at your Thanksgiving table by those who you love most.

Have a wonderful holiday, dear friends.

We love you.

  1. Laurie, I'm from Brazil so we don't have Thanksgiving, but during this holiday I always feel grateful the Internet exists so I can remember this tradition exists. I love to read Thanksgiving wishes in the blogs I follow, be it about kitties or fashion, because it reminds me to be thankfull too. I've been around IBKC for about 4 years, I think, and I can't count the ways you and the kittens have made my day better when I needed. So thank you, and Craig (and Charlene and Wylla, of course), for all the hard work you put not only on this blog, which is a blessing for all your readers, but especially into giving the tiny ones a better start at life. Every year I put you all into my new year's prayers and I plan to keep doing that for many years to come! Have a great holiday with your family! I hope the house is warm, the food is tasty and the cats are fluffly for you and for all my friends from the IBKC community!

  7. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without Willamena's turkey paw! Thank you so much for everything you do for the kittens (and cats and your shelter), Laurie and Craig and Wylla and Bean! I am very thankful to be part of this warm and loving community that focuses on the good in the world; I think we all need a bit of good in our lives, and what better way to bring it in than through taking care of some of our neediest creatures? Have a lovely holiday, all of you!

  12. This is one of my all-time favorite Thanksgiving images...a sweet, itty bitty kitten paw intersecting with the memory of a childhood craft.
