We're Having a Heatwave

It's much earlier than I prefer to be up on a Saturday, but Bean was relentless, and had not intention of letting anyone sleep because she needed her breakfast.   Try as I might, she was impossible to ignore, so I gave in, got up, and started my day.

We're right in the middle of a heatwave, and think it's throwing off everyone's patterns. We're sleeping weird hours, shuffling around the house in search of the coolest spot, moving fans so air is blowing in at certain hours and out at other times. Drapes and blinds are closed during the day, so there's no looking outside.

Charlene and Wylla's cozy little napping spots have been abandoned upstairs for cooler ones on the main floor. Cats normally curled into balls are flat or belly-up and seem to be flopping dramatically in protest of this weather.

According to the forecast, it looks like we've got a few more days of this.  I think it's making us all a little bit cranky, and hopefully the weather breaks before we do!

take an ice cold bath or shower, put your sheets in the frig before bedtime, and sleep on the first floor, literally! my daughter has an outdoor feral she tends to and she puts ice packs under a towel for him!

  2. there's a lot of dramatic floof flopping that happens in summertime at our in Austin -- even tho we have central AC.

  3. Freeze water in soda bottles or individual water bottles (don't fill all the way though!) and let the cats lay next to it. It will help cool things down. Put a towel under to catch condensation (the cats will like licking it) or wrap in a sock for snuggling. We did this for our rabbits, which are ultra heat sensitive and they loved it

  5. Dina has some great ideas. I've been dropping ice cube's in the feral's water bowls all day (they have lots of shade on the patio). Here on the other side of the state our afternoon high was 104. Stay cool over there.
