Kitten Therapy Session

My friend Marguerite said goodbye to her dear kitty Alfred this past week.  She loved this special cat deeply and her heart is aching right now, so we had her over for a little kitten therapy session.  Keryn, her kitten-loving niece, joined us for the visit, too.

We've all been there and know there's no quick mend with a loss like this, but I think these dear babies did offer a nice distraction during the visit yesterday.  And though it will be some time before Marguerite brings another kitty into her life, I think these babies helped her see that there's plenty of room in her heart to love more.

  1. Thanks so much for having me over, Laurie! It was very sad to lose Alfred (10 years old! too young!) but seeing your sweet fuzzy kittens reminded me what Alfred was like when he was a kitten. They grow up so fast! We have to remember to hold them tight while we have them. Little Effie and Hazel are going to make their new families VERY happy! :)

  2. I'd wager Alfred's years with Marguerite were very, very happy ones, which is something to celebrate, even amid deep sadness.

  6. I am so sorry for your loss, Marguerite! I have felt that loss many times over, both from losing kitties, doggies, horses, and humans. Give yourself all the time you need to grieve, and as many kitten therapy sessions as possible! They do have a way of soothing most any pain!

  7. Marguerite I'm so sorry for your loss of dear Alfred. May your heart find peace and comfort in time. I wish you lots of Laurie's kitten therapy to help ease your pain a little. <3

We lost our 6-1/2 year old boy Mocha quite suddenly not too long ago and we were all quite broken (especially his brother Chai). His lonliness was too much to bear and we ended up getting him a baby sister sooner than we thought but kitten therapy did us all SO good. We are all changed by Sophie's presence and Chai is happier than I've ever seen him. We are able to remember Mocha with smiles more than tears now too. She's helping heal our hearts one goofy antic at a time.

  10. I'm so sorry for your loss of Alfred, Marguerite. I'm sure he was a wonderful kitty. And I hope cuddling the babies helped a little bit. They are certainly little snuggly darlings!

  11. Extending my condolences as well.

Going by the second pic, it looks like Hazel may be a snuggle bug in the making. LG was very timid and wary when we first met him (he had a rough start in life), but now he is a total snuggle bug.

  12. Marguerite, my condolences on Alfred's loss. 10 years is much too young indeed! :(

  14. I'm so sorry for your loss, Marguerite. When I lost my Mini last year, I had never experienced such agonizing sadness. It was the worst pain of my life, truly. And I still miss her every day, and I still cry most days, but I recently adopted two crazy little kitties and I know Mini would be happy for all of us. I actually think she sent them to me. :) Anyway, sorry to ramble, just wanted to send you a virtual hug. I'm sure you gave Alfred a wonderful life and he's up in heaven now, checking on you every day. xoxo

    1. This is how I feel now, LvV. I have loved so many wonderful kittens and cats over the years, and losing them, as time went on, was always heartbreaking and always painful. But losing Bindo has been especially and exceptionally painful and I sometimes feel that I am about to drown in this sea of grief I have been experiencing. I miss him every day...from the moment I wake up in the morning and realise he's not on the bed covers, and the last thing at night...remembering him, and missing him so very much. He was such a wonderful and special cat, with special needs all through his life, but he was also the happiest cat I've ever had the honour and pleasure of knowing and having in my life. I'm so very sorry for your loss of your sweet Mini, and for Marguerite's sweet Alfred. I will light a candle for your Mini, Marguerites Alfred and my Bindo...with a wish and a prayer that our love for each of them will light their way.

    2. Thank you June, of your kind words. The way you describe Bindo (great name) is exactly how I felt losing Mini. The loss of our cats is so very hard, but having them is the biggest blessing.

    3. I'm having such a hard time coping with losing Bindo. My life isn't the same without him in it. I don't know if I can ever get past this loss and this heartbreak. He was such a special little fellow and it's difficult to accept that he's no longer here...except in my heart and in my memories of him and the joy he brought into our home, and into my life.

  18. When we lost Saturn, what we learned despite our hesitation about bringing Hyperion into our lives is that the heart is a roomy place-- and if we had it to do over, we would get the new kitty or cat much, much sooner than we did. (We were worried at some level that to get another would be to somehow minimize our love for Saturn. Of course the other hesitation we had was that we didn't think we could go through another loss like that ever again. But then we heard of some kittens at a horse stable where the dog had begun killing kittens and were asked if we could take one, and we knew we wanted to take the plunge on that level too. Our vet said it often happens that way.) Anyway, just hugs to and prayers for Marguerite and all who mourn! The departed ones are indeed in heaven, but we know how terribly that loss and separation hurts. Hang in there; eventually it becomes easier, and meanwhile be gentle with yourselves. ( ) [hug]

  20. When my buddy Mr. Cat passed at 18 years, I used to go to the local cat shelter on my lunch hour just to see the kitties and it made me feel better about my loss. It was a long long time before I was ready to find a new buddy and now that I have, after our 13 years together, I realize that I love my Howie way too much and that his loss may be more difficult than the last. Such is the price we pay for such profound companionship. My condolences, Marguerite.

  21. I had to put my sweet Jody down less than an hour ago. I still have my sweet Sunshine, who I hugged as hard as I could when I got home. There is no doubt that the pain is so sharp, but the joy that came before from just having her in my life makes it all worth it.

  23. I'm so very, very sorry for your loss, Marguerite. I know just how you are feeling, for I've recently lost my beloved Bindo 6 weeks ago. This is the only down side to our loving attachment to our wonderful feline friends and sweet, beautiful companions...Bindo is in my heart, and always will be with me in my memories of him, but I miss him so. I send you much love in this very sad and heartbreaking time...for both of us, and for all of us who have lost our best friend.

  24. My sympathies on her loss. Losing a furbaby you've had a deep connection with is difficult and wrenching. Fur therapy helps you handle the grief and loss. I'm glad Marguerite was able to spend time with the kittens, and that she won't hesitate to book another therapy session (or two or ten...) again in the future if she feel she needs it.

  25. Many condolences to you, Marguerite. I've been there and am still in the mourning phase for my dear Peeps (11 months since she left us). What a good friend you are, Laurie. Kitten therapy is so good for the soul.
