Brisker, Swift and Goldman

Effie Brisker and Hazel Swift arrived in the shelter late Friday afternoon along with three little brothers. The person who surrendered them to the Humane Society claimed they were feral kittens. They had tried to find the mother, but she had disappeared, so they just brought the babies in.

I don't know for sure if they were feral or not, but it sure does seem like these plump, healthy babies are pretty used to being handled by humans, so I do question whether or not their backstory is true. Unfortunately, people aren't always completely honest about their reasons for surrendering animals.

So yes, five babies came in, and because they're so tiny and needy, they got split into two smaller, manageable sets.  My friend Sue got three identical Flame Point boys, and I have the girls.

Yesterday, both sets had appointments with the shelter vet, so the boys and girls had a chance to have a little mix and mingle in the foster room. I thought you might enjoy seeing a few images from the kitten party.  I know the pictures aren't the best, I shot them with my phone in a dimly lit room and the kitten were very wiggly, but I knew you wouldn't want to miss this.

Please meet the brothers: Mack, Zack, and Jack Goldman.  Don't ask me who is who, I have no idea.  Nor does Sue!

Flame Point, Flame Point, Lilac Point, Flame Point. And then there's Hazel.

I'm sure there will be many play dates to come, so we'll be able to watch these boys grow up too.

    1. No, gray. Perhaps she'll be a Dilute Tortie - it's hard to tell at the stage.

  2. OH. Flame points. They are the absolute yummiest flavor of meezer. And I say that as the proud kittymama of two lynx points. Which are the next-best flavor.

  7. Love the pink Boy toes! Does this mean Sue's blog will restart? Or will she guest blog with you? I can not imagine bottle feeding 5 wiggly kittens! One was hard enough.

    1. I don't know if she'll start blogging again. I'll document any play dates the kittens have, and will post those.

    2. I marvel that the bloggers I read can ever manage to find time to take pictures and post their stories. I wouldn't last a week... I miss reading the Pitter Pats Blog too, but it is great to know that Sue (weird to call someone you've never met except for reading their blog by their first name?) is alive and well even if not blogging.

  8. How cute! Thanks for sharing the reunion! The pictures are just fine. I'm glad to know a little bit about their backgrounds and that they've been saved from the hard and short life of a feral cat.

(Also thanks for not pulling an April Fool's Day joke on us.)

  11. I didn't realize just how much I missed reading about kittens on your blog, Laurie! I love Bean and Wylla but there is just something about a sweet little fur baby that tugs at my heartstrings. :)

Did Bean try the hairball trick again this morning?

    1. I have to get up pretty early to feed the babies, so there is no need for her to wake me.

  19. looking at the set, could have been 1 dad -- handsome flame pt male, pretty half siamese dilute tortie female (Hazel is half siamese too, then.).....but with cats, again as stated, could be mult. dads.

  26. Hello, I'm glad to see new kitties plus Charlene & Wylla updates. I do need to say that you don't have to ever apologize for the quality of your photography. After a few years of following the site I'm sure you could take great photos with an old Kodak Brownie. Thank you & have a good day.

  32. oh my! I can't decide which picture I like best! They're all so cute. Little Hazel is extra special because she doesn't quite fit in. Give those little cuties kisses for me and a couple to Bean and the Wee One too! Rae from Reno

  33. Oh my word.. Between these itty bitties, and the crew of 5 orange babies just born to a feral Mama in a bay area rescue group (Bitten by a Kitten on FB), I'm just skaWEEED out.. I could just adopt the whole bunch and become a serious Crazy Cat Lady..

  34. This may be a dumb question but...
After seeing your post yesterday I wondered (while cleaning my cat's box), do kittens this tiny use a box?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They're just starting to go on their own. They have a tiny, shallow box available, and if I see them starting to squat, I'll drop them in it. Mostly they just go in their bedding. They'll figure it out soon.
