Little Luncheon Guest

Yesterday, we celebrated our Humane Society's 125 anniversary with a lovely luncheon at the Hotel Murano.  Every staff member attended along with board members, many volunteers, supporters and  one cat.

Yes, Wylla was my date for the event -unfortunately I left the SD card for the camera at home, so I wasn't able to document her on this outing.

We arrived early, signed in, and mingled with friends and guests in the lobby.  Wylla was the cat ambassador at the event, and did a great job fulfilling this role.   Many people know her story, or recognize her from the billboard campaign,  and were excited to say hello to our tiny celeb.  She always does well in social situations, and was happy to receive pets from all.

We took our seats and enjoyed the lunch and the presentation. Wylla did great. She perched on my shoulders and the shoulders of the other guests at the table.  When she grew tired of perching, she sat in my lap, or curled up under my chair in her bed. She did try to steal a bite of Sue's dessert and a drink from my water glass, but other than these two minor social infractions, she was the prefect little guest.

I'm sorry I don't have photos from the day,  but I do have a video to share with you this morning.  It was part of the presentation yesterday, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house after we watched it.

Please grab your hankies and be prepared to shed a few happy tears.

  3. I could live without animals if I HAD to, but, luckily I don't, so I won't, and hopefully never will. Thanks for the work and the blog!

    1. I had to make that choice -- I am allergic to dogs and cats. I chose animals and allergies. Life is worse without pets than it is with allergies. :)

    2. Right! They have medicine for allergies.

  4. I think that I could NOT live without them.
    THANK YOU!

  5. I'm sure someone else must have captured this phenomenal kitten with her phenomenal mom at the event!!! Is there a cat person in the universe who does not secretly (and not so secretly) covet the versatile Miss Wylla? I doubt it.

  6. Hmmmm- cat moms all over America are now giving the side-eye stink-eye to their little loco pantalones kittens and saying "Why can't you behave like Wylla Stout Cinotto-Miller??"

  9. Am curious, how do you manage Wylla's litter box situation when she is out and about like this?

  10. I have a small litter box contained in a larger plastic bin with a lid that I bring along on bigger outings. Also in the bin: a scoop, extra litter, and plastic bags. Most cats pee just two or three times a day, so I never worry if we're just going to be gone an hour or so, and I always drop her in the box before I harness her up. On longer trips, she takes a bathroom break when we stop for gas, coffee, or whatever.

    1. But many of us do not have Facebook so explanations here are much appreciated!

  12. That video was wonderful. I was ready to give every single dog and cat a home! I especially loved the doggie fetching the ball in the water; Isaac's trips to the Bestest Place Ever (i.e. the dog beach) were the highlights of his younger life, while he was still active enough to swim. (He's too elderly now, poor baby.) And the slogan -- "Make Happy Happen" -- could not be a more perfect description of what having pets does for us all!
