Figuring It All Out

There's a lot of trial and error involved with Wylla's care.   We're constantly modifying meal sizes, the consistency of her food, meal timing, and the length of the post-meal upright-holding sessions, with the hope of finding that perfect balance that works for her system, and keeps food down.

We'll  have a week where everything seems under control - she's able to process her meals and everything stays down - but that's always followed by a couple of bad days where her innards sound turbulent,  everything comes back up, and she feels low.

She's managed to put on some weight, but still only weighs two and a half pounds, which is about half of what a kitten of her age should weigh.

For now, she'll continue to stay in our care while we work on getting her healthier and fatter.   We certainly don't mind - this darling little thing is a joy to be around.

  1. Laurie, you are a saint. Wylla is so lucky to have someone so caring and patient to help her figure it out. Let's just hope that you find the magic formula!

  2. Those first three pics look like she's posing for mug shots! I'm so glad she has you in her life to help her through these challenges. She is such a beauty.

  4. its sad but wee Wylla might always be a small one.

we got my maine coon from the shelter she was 6 months old and about 6lbs. she didnt grown much these days we feed her about as much as she wants to eat and she is just shy of 8lbs at 4 years old which is quite small for a maine coon.

  5. I have such a soft spot for special needs kittehs. If I didn't already have 3, I would definitely love the chance to take care of this sweet heart.

  6. Wee Wooly Wylla - the nickname may have been been prophetic! The three of you have been through a lot with this litter, and I am selfishly happy that you continue to work with Wylla rather than sending her to a shelter where she might not make it. I love seeing her photos, and wishing that she could come to New Jersey to live with Clementine and myself.

  7. Wylla is so precious! Those 1st three pics DO look like mug shots! She could only be arrested for stealing hearts though! <3

  9. Hang in there little Wylla. Spicy Marie is a tough little thing and has made it to 18 years old only weighing 5.5 pounds, 6 pounds when she was younger. You'll be just fine as a tiny girl.

    1. That's exactly what my Emily has done, although she's only 17.5 years old. Tiny is excellent as a kitty! I know you'll continue to improve under Laurie's excellent care, Wee Wylla, and will continue to be a precious little floofball!

    2. Yes, it is amazing how excellent tiny really is... Spicy's sister was at least 10 pounds and her brother was over 15 pounds and she's outlasted both of them. Dynamite comes in small packages! :)

  13. Wylla is such a beautiful kit! and while you seem to act like "it's no big deal what we are doing", we all think it IS a big deal, and think you and Craig are pretty special for helping wee Wylla get better!

continued best wishes for you all!

  14. Look up, now right, left, profile, floof. Wylla has the makings of a mighty fine feline model! And thank you, Laurie & Craig & Beanie for going the extra 100 miles for this girl. We have enjoyed, prayed and worried along with you.

  16. I would like to echo everyone else here that declares you (and Charlene and Craig) a saint, Laurie. Wee Wylla is very lucky to have you all in her life. I am confident that you will get her routine figured out, and that she will gain more weight. Has she grown enough to be spayed yet? And I love her "mug shots"! And the last one, with her eyes partially closed, looks like she knows how precious she is! I will never tire of seeing pictures of her and Charlene. As a matter of fact, I look forward to seeing the daily updates.

  17. I love the last picture. Wylla's so blessed to have you and Craig working on her care and Bean teaching her everything she needs to know about how to be the bestest, sweetest floofy beastie she can be.

  18. Ah, she gets prettier daily! And good things come in small packages. :) Folks will be lining up to give her a home and taking care of her when she is ready! In the meantime I'm surrendering to the floof squared!

  19. It's so fun to watch the batches of kittens come and go, but sometimes they go so fast! I'm sorry that Wylla's tummy troubles aren't resolving faster, but it's really nice to be able to go slower and see her growing up.

  20. Thanks for everything you do and have done for all of the kitties in your care, including the adorable Wylla. Also, that last picture? Absolutely slayed me. Sigh.

  21. It's amazing how pretty little Wylla is.

I just want to chime in as another owner of a tinycat. My Mini was about 3.5 lbs her whole first year (hence the name), well into her second. She maxed out at 6.8 lbs during her early teens, and now at 17 years old has settled at about 5.5 lbs. She's very feisty and happy and healthy, though. She's just wee! Maybe Wylla is destined to be a wee one too.
