Bean Keeps Her Clean

Charlene grooms Wylla daily. It's a sweet bonding exercise for the pair, and the giver and receiver both seem to enjoy it.

Charlene has never had a problem with hairballs, so I don't worry much about any extra floof she may consume while grooming Wylla.   Bean gets "Furminated" regularly, and her body seems to process any hair she does take in just fine. She'll cough up a hairball maybe once or twice a year.

I think it may be beneficial to Wylla - her digestive system is delicate, it's probably better if there's not a lot of floof passing through it.

  1. Daily cat spa sessions... nice life, Wylla!

  2. I wonder if Bean senses that she's sick and that it helps her? Animals are so intuitive.

And its just sweet. What a great pair!

  3. Our cats have never been much for Furminators, but the really long-haired one adores being groomed with a plastic comb - which picks up a lot of floof!

  4. I recognize the look on our Wylla's face: it's pure unalloyed BLISS. Being cared for by a big sister the likes of Mistress Bean? Nothing to sneeze at.

  5. You are lucky. My kitty Oreo throws up a hairball at least once month. It is a very clean kitty and is always cleaning himself.

  7. You are so right, Laurie. Both of them seem to enjoy the bathing, based on the look on both of their faces. Its just so darn cute!

  8. I think the love and attention that Princess Wylla gets from Queen Bean can only help her to get better!

  9. Wylla is such a peaceful baby girl! Honestly, I'm not sure how you don't melt into a little puddle every time you see the two girls together, Laurie. The sweetness level is to die for!

  10. My kitties love each other, too, in spite of the fact that Petunia is 21 and Bucky is 13. It's such a pleasure knowing that they not only have me and Mike, but they have each other. My, but Wylla is growing up, if not getting much bigger. So much more mature looking, but no less beautiful She and Charlene are a striking pair!

  11. The look on Wylla's face says it all - she obviously finds it so relaxing. Charlene seems to be loving having her around all the time.

  13. Why does it not surprise me that Charlene has a superior hair-processing digestive system? It's like she was genetically super-engineered to be the perfect kitten bather!

Thanks for the link, that video was great. My favorite is at 1:14. Bean and a kitten sitting in a box or ornaments!

    2. Somehow I had missed seeing this video before, although I'm a longtime IBKC fan -- obviously not as long as some others! It's WONDERFUL to see all these photos of Charlene as a kitten! Thanks very much for this link!

  16. Wylla is such a patient darling. The Furminator's been a godsend in our house since the Beast Pippin moved in with us. :)

  17. Our two Maine Coons also groom each other. However neither tolerates the Furminator but both love a good combing. Wish I could say that stops the hair balls, but I'd be lying. Thank goodness for Simple Solution

  19. not to mention that the licking of the stomach also helps digestion.. mom kitties lick their kittens to help their digestive systems and stimulate them to defecate.. Not that the Bean needs to go that far, but any lick on the belly I'm sure brings Wylla a lot of comfort

  20. Wylla gets a daily Bean spa treatment! Now, that's the purrfect forever home!

  21. *g* I have a feeling Bean's daily grooming is definitely doing Wylla's digestive system a favor.

On the subject of social grooming, you can tell which cat is the dominant one in a household by who's grooming whom, because it's the dominant cat(s) who does the grooming.

  22. Too sweet!! It's great that Bean and Wylla have such a good bond- my whole family is cat lovers and not all our cats in the same household get along. I'm thankful that my two do- in fact, the "baby" has a habit of lying right in front of his sister and gently encouraging her with nuzzles to bathe him until she gives in! So happy for your happy sisters.

  23. It has been so clear that Bean knows that Wylla is delicate- she is so gentle and protective and probably will always be so. What a perfect home for Wylla. Book Two will have to be "Wylla and the Bean". I can't wait!

  24. Charlene is rarely happier than when she has an itty bitty to groom.

Wylla looks like she is holding on with her one leg to keep from sliding right off the surface she is melting on.

What a sweet pair. Makes my heart smile seeing Charlene dote on Wylla.

We love the furminator too! Originally got it for the dog but found the cats loved it just as much and it's been such a great thing. Seems to handle large amounts of fur better than any other kind of brush or comb we had before.
The main bather in the house still gets furballs though and we finally found Excel Kittymalt which seems to help a lot.

  26. What a pair. Clearly Charlene is happy to have Wylla be her little sis. And Wylla is delighted too.
