I got the loveliest note from Jessica , who expressed a strong interest in our dear little Louie.  She was looking for a second to kitty to love, and a playmate for her handsome orange boy, Bruce.

Until recently, Bruce had a buddy named Purry Kitty to keep him company.  Kitty moved out with their roommate, and Bruce was left bored.   Jessica hoped Shrimp Louie might be a good kitten to join their family, so she came over to meet him.

The second Jessica arrived, Louie crawled right into her lap for a nap.

Sold.

While Louie napped, we had a chance to chat, and I got to get to know Louie's new mother a little bit.  She's sweet, kind and calm and I know she is going to love and adore this special little fellow.

She's shrimply the best.*

I know everyone expressed hopes of our Small family getting adopted in pairs.  Well, that didn't happen.  We sent one pair out the door, but two flew solo from our nest.    This is fine.   Everyone has really great home, and that's what matters most.

We raise very well-socialized kittens who adjust quickly to their new surroundings and merge nicely into homes with other cats.  Charlene helps teach them boundaries and manners, so they make very good siblings for blended cat families.

So, please don't ever feel sad for IBKs who leave without a sibling in tow.   If there's any loneliness at all, it will be very, very temporary.  I never feel one moment of sadness for them.  I only feel happy for their wonderful life ahead.

And gratefulness for this incredible stream of fabulous families that find their way to us.

*GROAN!  I know.  Super corny, yes, but I've been saving that one for awhile, and this being Louie's last post, I had no choice but to use it now.  My apologies.

  2. Aww! Shrimp Louie looks so handsome in his collar and medal! It sounds like a perfect place for the little fellow! Jessica will be a great mom that our special little guy! Is she going to keep Louie's name?

  3. Louie is so lucky! AND, a) has adorable crossed eyes; and b) looks quite vulnerable and sad in picture 5. I've gotten that look before from my babies, I think it's "WHY did you put this THING on me?"-- but a good solution to new-collar blues is sitting on your sibling.

  5. The fact that IBKC graduates are so well-socialized is just another testament to the brilliant care and hard (loving) work of Charlene, Laurie and Craig. Congrats!

  6. Jessica, you are the luckiest lady in the world right now. Congrats! :D I love how tiny Louie's neck looks in that collar. (Also, in picture #5, I feel like he's saying, "Would you get a load of my brothers and sister? I'm about to leave and they're all napping again. Sheesh.") Bye, baby Louis! Don't be a stranger!

    2. I usually refer to that look that Shrimp Louie is giving in photo #5 as "puppy dog eyes" but now I am going to have to revise my descriptor to "puppy dog / kitty cat eyes." Aw Louie, you can't guilt me with that look - I know you are going to be spoiled in your new home.

  7. Shrimp Louie's gold medal looks so BIG on him.
Having collared a few adoptees now I can appreciate the itty bitty-ness of the IBKC alumni so much more!

He is going to have a wonderful life with a brother from another mother to play and (hopefully) cuddle with.

    Terrific news!
And Laurie, love the "shrimply the best", quite punny, and sweet.

  10. Love the title even if it borders on corny. And congrats for fostering kittens and THEN socializing them for other cats and people. I do hope for pictures from Jessica of Bruce and Shrinmply The Best Louie!

  13. Is it just me, or does this little guy have really short whiskers? If so, is it just a phase that kittens have? I've never had the joy of raising a kitten, so I don't know these things.

    1. He does, but it kind of makes sense as he's so small still and they are supposedly supposed to be in proportion to the width of the kitty.
Then again that doesn't always work as our slim cat has 4+ inch whiskers and our fat cat has much much smaller ones. ;-)

    2. Same with my slim cat and fat cat! Slim cat has luxurious flowing whiskers. Fat cat, not so much.

    3. When he was wee, someone took to chewing on his whiskers, so they are still growing back in.

    4. That happened to my boys too! I adopted littermates, and when I got them (at about 5 months old) they had stubbly little whiskers. I couldn't figure it out til I asked the vet. They'd just been chewing on each other.

I will miss googly-eyed little Shrimp Louie -- but hooray for good homes! Jessica is a lucky lady.

  15. Tears rolling down my face. Moved by sight of Louie as he graduates. Laurie, what a beautiful sentiment: " I never feel one moment of sadness for them. I only feel happy for their wonderful life ahead. "

I feel gratitude for the love you give and the work you do. It makes my life so much better!

  16. The collar and tag are almost as big as Louie! Shrimp Louie, indeed! I'm thrilled he's going to a great home and will have a partner in crime to get up to all kinds of kitty mischief with. Is Jessica going to keep you supplied with updates and photos?

  17. Hooray for the Shrimp! He's got a wonderful future ahead, with a big new buddy who needs him.
