Small Together

Autumn has arrived, and it's getting a wee bit cool around here.  I'm not quite prepared to turn on the furnace yet.   I try my best to wait until the end of October to do that.

To keep our Smalls all toasty, I warm up a heating pad and place it on their favorite napping spot.      It's big enough for all to keep at least one cheek planted on it.   When they're not bouncing about, this pad is the center of the universe.

Big Cat Lover, Small Kittens

This is our rockstar friend, John.

DSC_0002

John photographs cats, and he even has a guitar-playing cat tattooed on his arm.

I can only think of a couple of people who love cats more than John does.  And I know a LOT of people who love cats.

As you can imagine, a visit with a litter as fabulous as the Smalls was quite a treat for this big cat lover.

I think the Smalls enjoyed it too.

A Small Nap

We all thought the Lamms were the cutest nappers ever, but these Smalls may just have them beat.

DSC_0004

Let's take a closer look, shall we?

DSC_0012

I don't know that I've witnessed anything more precious than dear Louie Small, curled up in a ball.

I'm sorry for disturbing you, Smalls.   Please tuck yourselves back in, and resume your nap.

They Like it Here

There are many reasons to adore these Smalls, but THIS tops my list...

They like to be held together.

And they'll stay there as long you let them.

The Largest Small

Say hello to Liam Small.    He's the largest Small of them all.

DSC_0107

He's a big love too.  Aren't you, Liam?

Yep.

V. Small

I have a very dear little friend named Violet. She's four, and one of the sweetest humans you'll ever meet.

I've been waiting for a kitty as dear and as sweet as my friend Violet to come along, so I could name a kitten after her.

Well, she finally arrived.

Here she is, Miss Violet Small.

This Solomon Small.
He also answers to Sol Small.   Or Small Sol.

OH, you'll all be happy to know that Mama Ruth got adopted this weekend.  According to our cattery insider, Frances, a real nice gal adopted her.  She was looking for a cuddly lap cat and Ruth seemed to fit the bill!

Hooray for Ruth!   No surprise she got snatched up so fast, she was an awesome girl.

All the Smalls

I'm usually not lucky enough to get a group shot so soon, but these Small kittens are such wonderful little posers, they were more than happy to sit still long enough for their first family portrait.

So here you have it, all the Smalls.

DSC_0057

Can you believe our sweet tabby Ruth birthed all these Siamese babies? Kitten genetics are a wonderful, baffling thing.

Thought you might like to have a peek at them today. You'll officially meet each kitten in posts to come.

Happy Friday!

The Smallest Small of Them All

This is Louie Small.  Because he was the scrawniest of this Small bunch, we call him Shrimp Louie.  He's starting to fill out, so hopefully this will soon become his ironic nickname.

He's mostly white,  but it looks like he's going to be a Flame Point. His tail is getting oranger every day and he's showing a little color on his paws, too.

Welcome little Louie!

Meet Their Mama

We usually don't meet the mothers of our foster kittens, but this time we did.

Please say hello to Ruth.

DSC_0019

She's gentle, sweet and almost a baby herself and looks only six months old.  She's a tiny thing.

She was in a foster home with her kittens and this dear little thing had a hard time making enough milk to feed everyone.  The whole family came back to the shelter, all a little too thin, and the vet staff decided that in the best interest of both mom and babes, it was time to pull the kittens off of Ruth.

I saw the little family in the foster room on Wednesday when I brought the Petries in for surgery.  Carrie and Allea told me the family would soon be separated soon, Ruth would be fixed and then made available for adoption.  Even though they're two months old, the tiny kittens needed more time in foster care, so I volunteered for the job.

When you meet these cuties, you'll understand why I volunteered to take them in.

Oh my.

Ruth's a lovely little lady and I am hoping she'll  find a really wonderful home.   Right now, she's at the Humane Society,  but there's a chance she could be moved to one of the satellite adoption locations, like PetSmart or Petco,  in the near future.    If you might be interested in meeting Ruth, you can contact the shelter and give them her identification number, A464480.  They'll be able to let you know where she's residing.  If you are the lucky one who adopts her, please be sure to let us know!

Tomorrow I'll begin introducing her babies.

OH, boy!  You're in for a real surprise.  Never in a million years would I guess these could be hers.  But they are, and they're fabulous.

UPDATE:  Ruth is at the Humane Society for Tacoma / Pierce County in lobby cage # 15!
Thanks for that info,  Frances.

Pearl's New World

DSC_0065

Back in the fall, Beegee said goodbye to a dear feline friend, Coda.   After some time and healing, she was ready to bring a kitten or two back into her life.    She watched our litters come and go, and followed  many other websites and rescues too, in hopes of finding kitties she could really connect with, just like she did with Coda.

In July, she found Makai at a kitty rescue up north and brought him into her life.   They've been quite happy together, but she was feeling they might be even happier if Makai had a little kitten friend.

Here's lovely Makai.

July 2012 (9)

When I introduced the Petries on the IBKC,  Pearl caught Beegee's eye.   She came for a visit, and it was clear Pearl was meant to be hers too.  A connection was made.

The Petrie boys all left Friday night, so for several days, we had Pearl all to ourselves.   We got to know her a little better, and enjoyed our time alone with her.

She is a dear, dear affectionate little girl and I know Beegee is going to adore her.  I'm sure Makai will love his new sister too.  You can't help but love Pearl Mae Petrie.
