From our Friends at the Humane Society

Dear Itty Bitty Kitty Committee Community:

How can we begin to tell you how amazing you are?! Your compassion and generosity has filled us with awe, and has been an inspiration to all the volunteers, staff, adopters, visitors… everyone!

You can’t imagine what it means to have funding that is just for cats – to give them what they need to find a loving home. It is big. We know that cats need special treatment if they are to thrive, and find homes. They need to be housed in small numbers, in large enclosures. They need thick beds, a place to hide, and a place to perch. They need natural light, good food, affection, and respect. They need to be taken to businesses and pet supply stores, where they can snare innocent shoppers with their charm. If they are very young, they need to be nurtured in a foster home. If they are very old, they need blood work, dental cleaning, and special care. If they are injured, they need treatment or surgery. And because of you, they can get what they need.

 At this very moment:

Five week old Stash is in the Kitten Room, gobbling canned food. Purchased by you.

Ten year old Zoe is eating dry food – because she can. Her teeth were cleaned and an infected molar removed. She feels great now. Because of you.

Tony is splayed on the ledge of his cage, flipping his tail lazily and purring. You provided that cage. In Butterbean Quarantine,

Wally is tilting his face toward the skylight, waiting to be taken to PetSmart, where he will find the perfect owner. You built that room. You are providing the transportation.

The Petunia Louise Community Cat Room is being cleaned, because all those cats were adopted on Saturday. Six more are waiting to enter. You created that space.

There is no better feeling than seeing a frightened, hungry, stressed cat start to relax, and purr, and ask to be petted. And then leave the shelter with a loving new owner.

Your generosity makes that happen.

You see the magic that Laurie works with her foster kittens. And here at the shelter, hundreds more are helped every day. Because of you.

So thank you! Even though it isn’t adequate. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

 - The staff and volunteers at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County

One of my kitties was a humane society kitten who I spied at a pet store and I literally waited for over an hour for another adoption to be finalised, just so I could cuddle him and apply to adopt him. I'm so thankful that some of our money helps more cats get homes this way.

So many wonderful happy tears :)

    1. This shelter is amazing, it is. But I think that the financial support that they get from this yearly fundraiser is one of the things that allows them to do amazing things, things that other shelters may have thought of doing but may or may not have the resources to do.

I think that supporting local shelters with money and/or manpower allows them to do amazing things, too.

  26. Yep, joined the "crying at work brigade". But now I challenge ourselves to make the same dollar donation we made to Laurie to our local shelter, Hunmane Society or other. I did.

    2. Great idea. I contribute monthly to my local humane society and volunteer/do walk-a-thons for my local cat rescue. :)

  27. Happy tears too, too often the cats and kittens don't get the attention they deserve...the stories of the kitties that we helped at the Humane Society are inspiring. I will take up the challenge above from SAM. I already volunteer at an AWESOME kitty shelter (Furkids in ATL, GA ;=) but I will be making a donation to our transportation fundraiser too! This is the best site on the internet, bar none!!
