A Little Reminder...

This is a positive place.  People come here to have their day brightened, not their feathers ruffled.

Please think before you post a comment.   Think about how it may be interpreted by any and everyone in this community.  Think how it could make another person feel.    Even statements made by someone with good intentions can come off as negative or be hurtful.

I value every single person that follows this blog, and I don't want anyone to ever visit and leave feeling anything other than happier.

Thank you.

  2. That is so sad. This is the site I go to for a smile and to think that people do not do otherwise bewilders me.

Anyway! Love the updates of Mimsey and Nigel. Love all the floof!

  3. Why would ANYONE leave a negative comment? This and PitterPatofBabyCats are happy and joyful places for us to visit. Shame on them grumpy folks - go away until you have looked at each and every post on this site. I dare you. Me? I use this site to reduce stress at work since my 2 Maine Coons don't like to travel.

  5. Thank you for all you do, Laurie, from taking such wonderful care of the itty bitties to allowing us to be a part of your life! We are the lucky ones, in a lot of ways...

And kisses and hugs to Mimsey, Nigel and your wonderful folks! Enjoy your vacation!

  6. It's sad to think that someone can't appreciate the joy that our furry family members bring to the rest of us. And can't behave like a mature adult. I love this site! It warms my heart to see the animal lovers on this blog, that appreciate the joy and happiness these too-often forgotten creatures give to us. Laurie, I don't know you and probably will never meet you. But I take comfort in knowing that you and I are kindred spirits, as well as most of those that comment to this site from all over the world.

  9. I have been visiting this site daily since the Easterbrooks were in residence and admire your commitment to kitties & skill as a photographer. The fact that internet 'trolling' has come to this site should surprise me, but doesn't. Sadly, some people feel superior to cute. Keep up the good work, And give Charlene my regards, and the regards of my cats Barney Braunschweiger & Abbey Knievel (both SPCA Graduates).

  10. Yikes, I go away for a day and this happens! I didn't see the kerfuffle and I'm shocked that anyone could say anything mean here. Sorry to hear that something happened. I hope it doesn't jade your perception of all those who follow this blog daily and who absolutely adore you, Charlene, the kittens, and the rest of the "supporting cast" :) Thank you for everything you do.

  11. Laurie, you and your foster mom kin are awesome. I've just started volunteering with my local animal rescue and adoption services. :)

  12. I love this blog and always come away happier than I was before. I haven't had the time to comment much recently but I just want to thank you for all you do and share with us, Laurie, Charlene, Craig and all the kittens past and present. I haven't seen anything upsetting but I am sorry if anybody has been upset and pity those people whose hearts aren't 'warmed by the wonders of your blog.

  13. You would have to be a seriously disturbed person to have something negative to say on this blog. I'm glad I missed it.

  19. I'm appalled at the way people behave on the internet. But in this case, they should have the good sense to know that their words affect people.

Every cat posted on here is or will be someone's baby, and people need to keep that in mind.

  20. Only a total sourpuss who goes out of their way to be mean would make a negative comment here. I love this blog because it's all kittens and cuteness and sweetness. Shame on anyone who'd be negative!

  21. How anyone could be all grouchy-grumbly while looking a kittens is a mystery to me.

Perhaps we should sing a round of "Soft Kitty" to calm everyone down?

Thanks Laurie for all your hard work placing kittens in good homes and giving people a place they can count on for a good "squee".

  22. I love every sweet, silly, happy, funny, goofy, charming kitty on here. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. Dropping by here is a great way to perk up my day so thank you for taking the time (which must be considerable!) to keep this blog.

  23. Everyone who visits this site loves kitties so I don't think anyone deliberately left mean comments. I think a few people who may have experiences with cats who became obese or contracted diabetes (or something of that nature) overreacted to seeing the change in the Frosts -- who have moved beyond the lanky stage of late kittenhood and are now fully-grown floofy adult cats -- and projected some personal past trauma onto them. People love the Frosts and don't want Laurie's folks to go through whatever tragedy they may have experienced with their own cat's weight problems. However, it's clear while the Frosts are gorgeous big-boned beauties, they are NOT obese AND as someone who has witnessed a near-fatal tragedy which occurred from a person putting their cats on diets (guys, never do this without the advice, supervision and guidelines of a vet!), it's good to remind everyone not to jump to conclusions or recommendations even if those recommendations are informed by good intentions.

    1. and I'm just reiterating what Laurie says in the post... sheesh. Anyway, I hope we get to see more of the Frosts and that her folks aren't discouraged from sharing their photos and stories by a few comments.

    2. I hope nobody took my "Sugar Twins" comment the wrong way. That's what I used to call my dear departed brother-sister cat team. Like Mimsey and Nigel, they were very sweet and mostly white.

  24. I'm shocked that anyone would even think of posting something that would be rude or hurtful - where Iwork is extremely stressful and I view this page at least 5 times a day just to relax - this is a happy place - lets keep it that way.

  25. Oh heavens.. No one's ever heard of trolls? They LIVE for instigating a little trouble on the most innocuous of websites (and yes, on purpose.. don't ask me to explain it, since I don't understand either). Usually if you just ignore them they'll go away and try another site if they can't get a rise out of anyone.

  27. Thank you Laurie for all you do for so many kittens and thank you for providing this site of delight for us to visit. And thank you to Laurie's parents for raising such a kind, loving, dedicated, super creative, hard-working, FUN and totally lovely daughter.

  28. I am in love with the IBKC community and am continuously and pleasantly surprised at how rarely Laurie is required to make the "happy place" reminder.

Laurie, please pass along my appreciation and sincere thanks to your folks.

  30. I agree with everyone before me. This blog is so important to me - for stress relief, for joy-giving, to prevent me from becoming an even crazier cat-lady because I fall in love with yet another floof face...
Being on the other side of the world, despite regularly falling in love with Laurie's kittens, there's no danger of taking one home.

Never doubt the importance of the work you do, or the joy it brings. Thank you Laurie & Charlene xxx

Just know every time you post *somebody* in Portland Oregon sends you beams of sunshine. I am glad I missed whatever negativity passed in the comments - I was too busy adoring the photos of the Frosts. I love seeing IBKC alumni all grown up!

  35. The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee is the best cat blog of all. I hope everyone just focuses on these sweet babies, and how much work Laurie does to change the world for a few fluff balls and lucky forever families. Where else can you find a Butterbean? Kindness matters.

  36. I have no idea what "negativity" you are referring to but I want you to know that since I discovered IBKC a few months ago, every day is a little bit better. There is nothing like wonderful kitten rescue stories to brighten a really crappy day. Thank you for all that you do!

  37. Hi Laurie - I don't post often (maybe three times) but I have to tell you, when my gorgeous orange Gippy passed away this past March, coming here uplifted my soul and spirits. To look at all the babies you lovingly care for took some of my pain away. And made me smile! I have to say, I'm glad you're clear across the country because I want to adopt every single puffball you foster. I know we'll get another kitty (or three!) when the time is right. For the time being, I'll just come here daily to coo and smile. xoxox - madeleine in NY.

  39. Every time there's a new post, I ask my Mom, "Have you seen what Laurie posted today?" We talk about you and Charlene as though you're people we actually know in person, who live down the street or something. We absolutely love this site and it makes both of us smile. Every kitten that comes through your door is incredibly lucky.

  40. Laurie - I absolutely love your blog. It is the first site I visit each day. The love and care you put into all the cats and kittens shines through in everything from the names you bless them with, and your endearing photography. The little orange kitten magnet set I purchased, is among my cherished possessions.

  41. Laurie: I have been away for a few days and just read your "Reminder" post. Whoever wrote the post has never felt any love or compassion in their life. I come because of the greater community that you have created with IBKC -- I am part of the web that holds kindness, compassion and understanding above everything else. This is what you show us everyday with your fostering and beautiful artistic talent. We too, are here everyday with you, walking beside you supporting and caring for you. Feign those horrible words and know that you are greatly loved. Peace, Judith in SF (and her boys).

  43. Hi Laurie
You are in the business of putting love into people's lives. In our case, it was to fill a space left in out hearts by the loss of well- loved kitties. Our house is so full of fun with our two new kitties. We can't imagine how we went for 7 months without a kitty in our laps, but now we know we were waiting for India (from Adams county pet rescue) and ZouBisou (from you). Zoubi is so joyful that every morning she gets up and looks at us like "hey, isn't this a GREAT day?"- and because IBKC gave her such a great start, we get to smile A LOT. Your kittens are so well love by their owners- if that means they happen to look floofy, so be it.

  44. I love this site, and all the kitties from it. It lightens my day and, to me, is full of kindness and love, which is priceless.

  45. Your skillful photography and masterful story telling about the kittens is a daily delight. The many beautiful photos of your parents kitties - The Frosts - was heartwarming. They are simply beautiful. Your parents have done a wonderful job of loving them and it shows. Hopefully they are not disheartened by a few careless reader comments on the blog. You responded to it in a thoughtful, but firm manner. It is always a good day when I read IBKC. Thank you for all you do!

  46. Well we LOVE your blog and ALWAYS leave with a happy smile ~ so thank you. We just wish we could visit more often. xx
