My Apologies, Charlene.

First, let me start off by saying that Charlene truly is more floof than fat.  I know it doesn't  look that way in this picture, but really, this pose is just horribly unflattering.  If you ever find yourself sitting in this position, pray no one near by has a camera in hand.

She weighs around 12 pounds, and yes, there's a little extra in her undercarriage, but I assure you, mostly she's just very hairy.

When I discovered her sitting in this position I fought hard to hold in the laughter. I slowly backed out of the room, grabbed the camera, and came back just in time to get a few shots before she moved and assumed a more dignified pose.

And then I laughed hard for a very long time.  And then I uploaded the pictures and laughed harder for an even longer time.

This made Charlene sulky. Cats know when they are being laughed at, and they usually don't like it.

But good golly, how could I not laugh at this.

I'm sorry for the laugh at your expense, Charlene.  But I had to share this picture with your friends.

  1. Oh Charlene, I know the feeling. Sitting back and watching your stories, right?

  2. Laurie, this picture is just begging for a caption.

  3. When my 15-pound cat sits like that to clean himself, it's the same thing. I just laugh and laugh and laugh!

    Charlene, you're a beautiful girl.

  4. No cat, not even the Bean, can look dignified when they sit like that, and I've never been able to help but laugh when I see it! I'm glad to know even Bean can look silly :)

  5. OMC - mom has the snickers. Our Tommy will sit like this sometimes - except with one paw on the arm of the sofa...mom keeps asking him if she can get him the remote and a beer. :) Charlene - you are adorable no matter what position you choose to relax in.

  6. Poor Charlene. But it IS cute and Laugh Inspiring.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I too laughed and laughed. My own 12 pound pile of floof does the same thing and looks this way. Beanie, you rock!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Too funny! Charlene has her moments, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  9. OMG, I am dying. That is the funniest sight. :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would love to snorgle that tummeh!

    ReplyDelete
  11. :) aww, she looks most comfortable - we all have days like that. It's kind of the equivalent of sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am trying my best not to laugh, Bean. I am failing, but still making an effort,

    ReplyDelete
  13. It must be exhausting maintaining that lofty standard of Butterbean-ness all the time! Even A-list stars have to slouch and let it all hang out once in a while!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Rawr! Someone has to caption this...so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh I love this!!! Hahahahahaha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love it when cats sit like this!

Oh, Charlene, thank you for showing you're just as cat as every other cat :D

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ahhhh! I feel like that most days -- all mid-section :) You look great, Charlene!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I know Ms. Bean those yoga positions are hard to do sometimes -- for some of us the slouching Buddha is the best we can do. Love your tummy -- cant' resist the tickles.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dear Bean, you look awesome anyways! Even the stars deserve some relaxing time.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with Jess - I'm all mid-section lately!
Lucy sits like that too. It's just SO indelicate. She didn't do it when she was younger and slimmer. I just think it makes the tummy target so much more available for cleaning!

  21. She's just showing us the luxury of her incredible floofiness. I wish *my* belleh was all floof!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I guess even super models have casual days. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, I am so glad I read through the post before I scrolled all the way down to the picture! It made the shot even more hilarious!

But Ms. Bean, please don't be offended - as everyone else said, you are still adorable and awesome, and even more so now that we've seen your more "human" side!
And you know, even the most dignified lady has to let it all hang out every now and then! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ms. Bean, you are adorable! I have a floofy black cat who occasionally decides to heck with it, too.

  25. It's hard to be a celebrity these days--the papparazzi always know how to capture them in an off-moment, when their cellulite is showing, highlights are growing out, etc...all Charlene needs is to be holding a Starbucks cup in her hand and this pic would end up in People magazine.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This pose just calls for an addition of a beer bottle... I never tire of those pics! Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wouldn't turn my back if I were you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Let's call her rubinesque. She looks wealthy and well fed.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Poor baby, image the indignity. Love the photo. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL! She needs a pair of kitty sweatpants, then she's all set!

    ReplyDelete
  31. This looks like a cover of the Enquirer!

Guess which kitty celebrity was caught letting it all hang out??

    ReplyDelete
  32. My floofy Siamese likes to sit between my legs on the couch in this position so I can rub his belly. All he needs is a pair of boxers and a can of beer!

Needless to say, it's not a flattering position for either of us.

    ReplyDelete
  33. awesome, thank you for posting!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Shades of Carol Burnett's take on Scarlett O'Hara, complete with out-of-control crinoline!

Don't fret, Charlene. We love you all the more for sharing this moment with us.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You made me laugh out loud with today's photo. We said goodbye to our beautiful sixteen year old Burmese girl just over a week ago and visiting your website is truly a tonic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Aw, Charlene, please forgive me, but I laughed at this too! Do you think cats are trying to copy us when they use this "people sit" pose??

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh, Charlene, it's great to see you're occasionally willing to abandon all dignity!

    ReplyDelete
  38. caption: Bring me Solo and the Wookie!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Don't tell Charlene, but I'm laughing, too:-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Poor Charlene! Funny as all get out, but a blow to the dignity all the same.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, I think this pic should replace the one under "I'm not fat, I'm just floofy" on the right hand side of this page.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Dear Charlene - Around our house we call this the "Jabba The Hut" pose. One of our cats sits like this all the time. And she's quite proud of herself for it. So be proud Sweetie and show off your floof!

(@JasonInIllinois - It's somehow comforting to know we're not the only ones who thought of Jabba....).

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was thinking what great fur she has and we hoomins have to wear clothes and will never be as pretty as she is!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Still gorgeous, no matter what the pose...oh, and I'd love to give that floofy belly a scritch ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh my gosh, how funny! Charlene always seems so dignified that it's fun to see her in this silly pose. Sort of like seeing those photos of celebrities without their makeup, or something.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It was nice knowing you...you do KNOW you are dead, don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Aw, poor Charlene, the paw-paw-razzi caught you at a bad moment! You're still beautiful, tho!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I thought I was prepared, but I was not. I majorly LOL'd when I saw the pose. So cute, dear Charlene!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh, the laughter that happened here, as well. We have a very floofy girl named Charlotte that sits like that fairly regularly. I call it her "Bill the Cat" pose.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i could never get my cat to sit like that...i usually had to hold her to sit like that for may be few seconds and she made her escape.
    she's so adorable....

That is a classic photo, Charlene - you just hang loose, girl! Anyone bring you Solo & the Wookie, yet?

    ReplyDelete
  52. The scroll-down effect was epic! I actually cackled at high volume once I got to the photo. Love me some Charlene!

    ReplyDelete
  53. My sweet Aggie used to sit like that, except that she would prop herself up in a corner to do it. Charlene, you've got better floor than Aggie had!

    ReplyDelete
  54. **trying so hard to hold it in** **Sputter** Bwa-HAHAahhahahahahaaaaa!!

Sorry Charlene...it's just that you always look so dignified and regal. We never get to see you with curlers in your hair, before you've have your first cup of coffee, or just settling in to watch your programs.

    Still adorable, still a beauty...

    ReplyDelete
  55. She looks like a cat sitting on a catskin rug!!

My kitty is very chunky and she can't sit like that, so take that as proof that you're quite slim.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I laughed so hard my Wilson had to come see what the ruckus was about. Sorry Charlene.

    ReplyDelete
  57. What? There were some hairs out of place on my tummy and I was grooming them back into place...really...no bg deal...just a few stray wisps of fluff...nothing to see here people...move along...

    ReplyDelete
  58. My 12 lb Maine Coon likes to rest on his back, 4 floofy paws in the air and his belly looking like 9 football fields. Miss Bean, sorry but when a girl relazex like that, she should make sure the camera in UNDER her butt so no photos like this get out....snicker, snicker

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think what makes this hilarious is that Bean strikes me as such a proper kitty, always modeling feline dignity for and providing etiquette classes to her charges. Clearly, you were not meant to see her relaxing like this! I'm sure she is quite miffed with you for capturing this moment and displaying it to the world, so I would stock up on sparkle balls. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh my gosh you would have SO regretted it if you hadn't at least tried to get the shot! Priceless!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Aw how cute and silly!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dear Ms. Bean,

Some of us were very much in need of a good chuckle. Thank you for sacraficing yourself.

    Yours truly,
    An overworked librarian.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ohmygosh, I'm laughing too!! but I DO understand about a little "floof"! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  64. well. there is no other possible way for a girl to manage the fluff-a-tude in the belleh region. its just a fact of life. i'm sure that any one of us 'hoomans', sitting on the edge of the tub, crouched over naked, trying to shave the backs of our calves would give anyone 'pawz' :) I cannot and do not want to image some of the 'shots' my pets witness in my getting ready for my day in the a.m., thank goodness THEY dont own cameras!

    ReplyDelete
  65. She looks like a fluffy Buddha :D

    ReplyDelete
  66. My cat Cheese Puff likes to sit like that all the time too :) Charlene is so gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. That does not look very comfortable for a cat. I wouldn't like being laughed at either.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I tried not to laugh but I couldn't resist, I laughed whilst saying "Awwww" and hugging myself in glee at the same time! My cat Rusty is extremely fluffy and she is very sensitive of people commenting on her excess fluff and mistaking it for one to many fishy snacks :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I expected to laugh, but I didn't expect nearly to lose my balance while doing it!

Charlene almost looks as if she's leaning back against something. But if there's a recliner under all the floof, it's clearly hidden ;)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sweet, fluffy Charlene.
People never seem to understand-you are very fluffulent,, pretty girl =)
My Winston kitty likes to sit this way, too.
I just smile(in front of him)
