Meeting Murray

In her life, Charlene has met just three dogs.

The first was your basic big black dog.  Charlene was barely six months old when they met and little Bean cornered her in the kitchen.

The second was a young, friendly Pitbull mix.  Charlene kept a safe distance from this wiggly pup, but used her intense glare to clearly communicate that it was her domain.

This weekend she met Murray.

Murray is a mellow Greyhound.  He's used to being around cats, he lives with two, so he didn't get the least bit excited when Charlene sauntered into the room.

Charlene was completely unaffected by his presence.   She just looked at him, flopped on the floor and took a nap.

And that was that.

  1. I love greyhounds and I love Charlene so this picture is just perfect. <3 Seriously she's one cool cat.

  2. Lesson here: don't bug the Bean, and the Bean will not bug you. I wonder if, for the right dog, Bean would groom it the way she grooms kittens.

  4. What about Maxine? Did Bean not get to meet her when Opal and Ellis stopped by to meet the McG girls?

  6. Don't you know that Greyhounds are merely overly large cats in a dog suit?

  7. Nicely done, Bean! I wish my dog and cats could be trusted together in a room.

  9. Well done, Bean (and Murray too!) Anon, my Simba is not a warm and fuzzy kind of cat but both of our labs got regular baths from him. They don't love it like the kittens seem to, but Simba insists and they submit. I'm thinking the nurturing Butterbean would probably bathe a dog if she lived with it.

  11. We have five cats and a greyhound. We had a second one that we had to help cross the bridge this July, and for the most part, the cats adored him. One had a man-crush on him and would throw himself on the floor in front of him and demand attention. Another would follow him around and cry plaintively for love as she rubbed against him. Freckles would politely respond to the requests for attention and then go back to ignoring them.

    How I miss that hound...

  12. I love seeing cats and dogs getting along! I really think it's much more dependent on the dog's personality than the cat's. Although -- my mom's dog gets along great with one cat, but not with that cat's mother. And Momma Cat doesn't really like any other animals, including her own daughter. So I may have to rethink my theory...

Either way, it's great to see Charlene and Murray peacefully co-existing!
