Little Girl, Big Heart

This is one of my favorite moments from last year's fundraiser.   I know you long-time followers have read this post already, but I wanted to share it again for our new followers.   Her sweetness still moves me to tears.

This is my friend Opal.   She's four years old, and she loves kitties.

She loves them so much, she has kitties on her shoes.

And she loves them so much, she brought a dollar and five pennies from her piggy bank to donate to our fundraiser.    Originally, she was going to bring one dollar and three pennies, but when she heard there were five kitties, she wanted to bring a penny for each.    She had another dollar in her piggy bank, but she's saving that to buy her dad a coffee on Father's Day, next year.

I was so touched by her thoughtfulness.   It just reminded me that ever single dollar (and penny)  that has been given to our little fundraiser comes from the same place - a warm, compassionate, kitty-loving heart.

I appreciate every cent, and all the hearts that gave them.

Thank you, friends.   We love you.

  1. Opal's generosity last year was both touching and amazing. I remember the valiant effort of everyone trying to keep that .05 standing on the total in honor of that little girl.

  6. Makin' me tear up! So sweet. I hope Opal will come by again this year so you can post pictures of her now, with the Dearborns. She needn't bring money this time as the rest of us will cover her share and she can go out for ice cream with her peeps.

  7. How about donate the cost of a cup of Joe in honor of Opal day? Or, for those of us who buy coffee by the bag full--a pound of coffee...adding the extra nickel, of course, just for Opal.

  12. I agree! Let's have an "In Honor of Opal" day this year when everyone gives for a kitty loving wee relative or friend -- and we add a penny for each foster kitty that you have.
This is my second favorite post next to Willa's wee paw turkey.
