An Update! Already!

I just got this note and picture from Beezus Medley's mom, Kristen. I thought you all would like to see how well she's doing in her new home.

Here's what Kristen had to say...

As if you couldn't see how things were going on Facebook and Flickr, I thought I'd drop you a line anyway to let you know we are all doing. Josie fits right in like she has been here all her life.

The first couple days were a little iffy with Julius as he was being snarly and hissy. We got pheromone plugs in the living room and a day after that, there was no naughty behavior from him.

She is a tease, a terror, and a zephyr! She zips in and out of rooms, out from under furniture, and rips through the 10' kitty tubes down the hall at break-neck speed.

My folks were over this weekend and she was just as social and snuggly as can be...everyone is in love with her, including Julius. He can't stand to be without her, not even for a few minutes if she happens to get into the bathroom with an adult and he ends up outside the door pitifully crying and chirping for her.

She lets him groom her and they snuggle together in the early mornings on my bed. It's disgustingly adorable. On their new cat tree, she has claimed the top spot...always pestering Julius' tail and sneaking a paw at him from underneath if he is resting there. She lurks around corners and jumps out at him--it's the best show on earth! Anyway, we love her to pieces and just wanted to say thanks again for hooking us up with the perfect little spitfire!

Best, Kristen

Thanks much for sending the update, Kristen. It's always nice to hear the "happily ever after" stories from our adopting families.

I'm so glad the merger was such a huge success!

What did she mean about pheromone plugs????

  7. ... never mind about the plugs. I googled it and had no idea there was such a thing... I'll have to remember this if I ever introduce a new kitty to the household.

  8. Oh I'm glad you posted this. I had seen this picture on the Flickr alumini group, but I don't have an account to comment. N-E-Way, I am SO happy to see these babies getting along already. It is so obvious she's a good momma. Look back through the Flickr photos and see poor Julius when he ate part of a toy! Kristin took good care of him!

  9. Thank you thank you so much for the update! They look absolutely adorable together.

I really wish I'd known about pheromone plugs a few months ago when I introduced Aurora to the others (I too Googled it). Does it work 3 months after the fact? 2 of them still don't get along. :(

  12. @Waheeda: if the pheromones work on your cats (some people say it doesn't work on their cats), it should work anytime they are feeling stressed. I've used it when one of my cats died and the other two were not behaving like their usual selves and I've used it whenever I've moved. Usually within 2-3 days they've calmed down although I still leave them plugged in until the bottles are empty.

  13. @Anon 12:16 pm - thank you for that! I really wish I had known such a thing existed because right after I had to put my Oreo down last year - a year tomorrow :( , Squirt got stressed and sick.

I wonder if the PetSmarts in Canada carry it.

    Thanks again!! :)

  17. @Waheeda: USA Petsmart carries them but are very expensive. I've found them much cheaper online.

  21. My vet used to have a pheromone plug in her cat room, she said EVERYONE was calmer, dogs, cats, people. I used to pack my nail clippers and while we waited, I could clip even the worst of the kids. I think the trick is to not try and do too big a room and if it's not a closed in room (or house) it'll all go out the window. There is also a spray, I spritz the towel in the carrier for the ride. Don't know if it helps much, but it can't hurt! I was told it's the sent of a momma cat who has babies to nurse, everyone finds it soothing.

    OBTW, love the post!!

  24. How happy does this make us? Immeasurably happy!

  25. Thanks everyone! The pheromone pkug that we used (got it on amazon) is called Felliway. We could see a difference in less than 12 hours. When we first brought Josie Bee home, Julius would have nothing to do with ME or her. I was worried. But then, we decided to put the plug in to ease transition stress and figured if it worked (sometimes they don't) by the time it wore off in a month or so, it would be too late and he'd already be in love with her. Mission accomplished. This morning they were having a chirpy little conversation on the bed, probably about how Mom needs to get out of bed and give them eat a little freeze-dried shrimp treat. Spoiled? Nooooooo....uh-uh.....

  26. There's nothing sweeter than old kitty/new kitty bonding!

I wish I could use the pheromone plugins, but I'm severely allergic to the oil part. I use the spray, but it's easy to miss a day here and there.

  27. Photos like these make me so happy. I've been following Julius and Josie Beezus' flickr page and I go there whenever I need to cheer myself up. These kitties are living the life. They have tons of toys, the Taj Mahal of cat trees, a loving indulgent mommy, and best of all, each other!
