Another Finch Update...

I visited the boys again last night, shortly before the HS closed. At dinner, Walter ate well, but according to their attendant, Ira wasn't too interested in eating. When I arrived, and said "Hi Boys!!!", Ira jumped up and started scarfing down his dinner. It was sweet.

Walter seemed peppier. When I held him, he wiggled around and batted at my fingers. Ira was calm, and seemed happy to be held, but still seemed a little low.

I'm heading over there it a bit to pay another visit. If anything changes at all, I'll let you know.

Thanks again for all the love.

  6. Aww, happy to hear that they seem to be doing better, and that Ira was happy to see you! Probably stating the obvious here, but would it help for him to have an old shirt or something that has your scent on it in the cage? Is that even allowed? Might be good for his morale...

Continuing to keep good thoughts for the wee Finches.

  9. Glad to hear they seemed to be doing a bit better last night! May the trend continue, and have them back home with you and Charlene soon, where they belong.

  10. Hope they continue to get better. Charlene would be lost without new babies to train.
Hopefully they will be healthy for their first Catmus.

  11. Encouraging news, Laurie - We are continuing to think about and pray for the health of Ira and Walter!

Thank you so much for keeping us posted about these sweet kittens.

I think all of us who are blessed to live with cats will snuggle them a bit more tightly tonight!

  13. Come on Finch-y boys, you've got a whole community thinking and praying for you. Walter, keep up the interest in food and just maybe you will inspire Ira. Hoping they continue to get better even if it is just one small step at a time.

  17. @ Sirius,

You can always tell who the cat parents are...we're the ones who rejoice at a well-formed steaming pile of poo (my Linus had a bad bout of the runs last week, so this is recent history for me).

Thanks for the update Laurie. Will keep the little ones in my prayers.

  18. Well, so far it sounds not too bad - I am hoping Ira is just a bit sad to be stuck there and that is why he is a bit low. The fact that they are eating is good - it sounds like Ira just wants to be polite and wait for you. We are still sending tons of purrs and prayers and love for both boys!

  19. Hope they are both fully recovered soon. It's good they are doing better.

  20. Thank you so much for the updates! The boys must be getting the best care there is and this was encouraging new.

Remember to relax between the visits, you must have worn yourself out too, caring for them last week. As I read some of the other foster blogs, I've found out that it is not all warm fuzz and cute photos to be a foster mom...

  21. Best wishes - it can be a fight, and a long fight.

  22. In my experience, cats who are sick and/or at the vet/being boarded will eat after getting petting, attention, and love. It seems to motivate them and reassure them. Hope they come home soon!

  23. They were very happy to see you. I like the idea of bringing them something with your scent on it. I remember when my cat Sarge was being brought down after surgery. He was snarling and hissing until he heard me call him then instantly he went silent. He knew he was going home and it made him feel better.

Best of luck to the finches!

  30. I'm about to become a kitten foster for the SPCA here in Auckland, and I really *really* hope my kittens will either be healthy or quickly recover from any little upsets!
And of course I hope the same for your kittens. Feel better soon, Finch boys. Have a little something to eat even if you don't really feel like it, it will help you get stronger.

  31. It sounds like Ira was missing you! I hope the babies are better soon and you can take them home. They need to get healthy so they can get some Butterbean love.
