Happy Thanksgiving, Folks!!

not all kitties can do this
For those of you who have been following this blog for awhile,, you've seen this picture before. It's our former foster, dear little Willamena Bouvier. (she's the little tabby holding the telephone on the sidebar)

Anyway,, I tried to photograph the kittens in their pilgrim costumes, but they wouldn't cooperate. They kept chewing on the shoe buckles and apron strings, so I had to re post this Thanksgiving picture instead.

I'm taking a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday, but I'll be back Monday, hopefully with news of kitten adoptions.

Have a glorious Thanksgiving, everyone.

XO

Laurie

PS Charlene Butterball says Happy Thanksgiving too.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Laurie, and to all American IBKC readers!
(P.S. Being a vegetarian, I'd rather have a Butterbean than a Butterball any day!)

  8. oh wow, I didn't know this photo was IBKC! I saw it on icanhascheezburger.com but didn't pay attention to the photo credit. Mucho kudos! I sent it as my Thanksgiving bulletin on MySpace (the cheezburger version) which can be found here: http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/11/22/happee-fangsgivings

And now that I look again, yep you're credited yay!

  10. How do you do it? I've got a first foster of my own who has a potential adopter... and I'm breaking apart inside. She loves my dog, my dog loves her, and I don't know what to do. How did you give your first ones up? You were an inspiration to begin fostering... but it's so hard to give her up, especially when we have so much more time to devote :(

  11. This picture just knocks me out. What a talented tabby Willamena is.

I give thanks daily for this site and for everyone involved in the IBKC. You have no idea how special you are to me. Many blessings to each of you, and special tummy rubs to the ... Butterball.

  14. Front page at I Can Has Cheezburger! Yay for IBKC.

Cutest thing: one of the comments recommends clicking on Laurie's credit but warns everyone to be careful of the cute! :-)

  16. Happy Thanksgiving all! I am thankful for Laurie (and all the wonderful foster moms and dads like her) for taking care of all the precious babies in the world who need a loving home to start out in. I am also thankful that you put in all the work that you do on this site, I look forward to checking it at least once a day; you are so talented with the camera and the captions, Laurie! Big belly snorgles to all the ladies and an extra chin scratch for Charlene and Drewey, too!

  17. Anon - The first ones are always the hardest to part with, particularly since it sounds like you have just one. I hear tell that lots of folks end up keeping one of their first ones for that very reason. The fact that it's so difficult for you only proves that your heart is in the right place. Trust me, it gets easier. Particularly when you're confident they're getting good homes. Even so, you can expect a tear or two each time they leave. It's a small price for what you and the kitties get in return. Just dash out and get some more! It's a great thing you're doing. A life has been saved and someone is getting a precious companion. Perfect.

  18. Anon,, all that Sue said is absolutely true. It's hard. but it does get easier with each litter.

What a lucky kitty she is to be loved so much from the start. Thanks for giving her a chance.

The sure cure for your sadness is getting more kittens. Trust me, it works!

  19. I found you from ICHC & what you're doing is amazing! I'd never be able to let go of such adorable kitties, though! XD

  20. Thank you for your advice! She is really the best kitten ever (she can keep up with my obnoxiously hyper boxer all day!) and we've been fostering her since the end of August (I can't believe no one else applied until now!) so there's been 3 months of attachment. I am going to do the right thing, it's just so hard. I know the new family will be very thankful, especially finding out on thanksgiving, but I can't help being devastated. I hope everyone is really thankful today for all their little babies!!

  23. Oh, dear Anon! My heart just aches for you and I know that whatever you decide will be OK. It sounds as if you have a terrific dog who will help you with fosters of the future and maybe will get to have this, or another kitty of his/her own. I have two dogs and two kitties and all four of them are so in love with each other and with me, as I am with all of them. Follow your heart on this one. Hugs!

  27. Dear Anon: Your heartache shows me what a wonderful foster mother you are, and this little kitty is so lucky to have such a caring soul!

That's my foster baby that's getting adopted... thank you for the support :) I really do appreciate it, I'm back home from VT for the weekend (kittenless when I heard the news, she's being babysat like that made it any easier) and my mom had to deal with me when I found out... boy am I thankful for her! I really do hope it will get easier with time, I trust yall's judgement if anyones though!

  30. A very belated happy Thanksgiving to all...love the picture, Laurie, just absolutely adorable.

Anon, your foster kitty is just too cute for words...I can imagine how hard it would be to give her up but just think of the joy that she'll bring to her new forever family. Our 3 kitties were rescued after being kept in cages all their lives (9 years & 5 years & 2 years), and we are forever grateful to their wonderful foster mom for taking care of them.

  31. Anon, your little Cassie girl is too cute for words! She fits right in with Laurie's brood. Thanks for sharing her story with us. Keep us posted on her/your progress. And I do think Laurie & Sue are right ~ if anyone knows foster, it's those ladies.

Amazing news from the Cattery ~ I've been gone for a few days but I'm told that we had about 8 big kitties find their forever homes on Saturday! Woo Hoo and YAY!

  32. Shana Banana, you and your shelter just ROCK! That big kitty news is just icing on the Thanksgiving cake.
