Cat is My Co-Pilot

Beatrix as Pilot

I have been enjoying all the kitties you've been posting over in the friends of the IBKC Flickr group.

I thought this photo of Beatrix taking a ride on Anne Boleyn's Papa's walker was just too sweet. He's a remarkable 98 years old, and Beatrix goes for a spin with him every night at 10:00 (and has been doing so for the past four years). What a beautiful companion she is.

Thanks for posting your lovely image, Anne.

Be sure to check out the other wonderful pics our friends are posting on the friends of the IBKC Flickr group too.

  1. OMG! Imagine sitting down to check on the IBK, with the lovely and talented Beatrix on my lap, and lo! There she is, and my dad is called Papa by the grandchildren and by the critters too. Moreover, he refers to Beatrix as "the pilot" when 10 PM rolls around and she's arrived to sit on the seat of his walker to stare at him until he turns off the TV and get up. THEN she assumes the pilot position and rides back to his bedroom.
Thank you for celebrating Beatrix and Papa today!

  2. Awww! What a good girl! That's so sweet. She knows what time it is and makes sure Papa goes to bed on time.

My girls like to ride in my computer chair. It's like a parade float for them.

  3. Oh my gosh! Anne, your kitty is really something amazing.

I love how sweet all of the precious pets on that Flickr group are.

Anne, that beautiful Beatrix deserves some serious extra loving for being so attentive to your Papa. Give her some chin scratches for me!

  4. Beatrix looks very serious about her job there. You can tell she is the only one who can ensure that no vicious creatures get near her Papa.

  5. I think I speak for many loyal IBKC fans when I say that you, Anne Boleyn, as well as your precious Beatrix, Potter and now Papa are an important element of what makes this site so special! Hurray to Laurie for celebrating the generous, caring nature that seems to run throughout your household.

  6. Beatrix is wonderful! Anne B, if you don't mind, may I name a shelter kitty in her honor? Naming our new stray friends is one of my favorite things, second of course to getting them adopted!

And YAY for big kitties Leroy, Humbug, Boo, Cloud, Maximus & Peaches who all found their new forever homes!

  7. That picture brings a tear to my eye. Could cats be more wonderful?

  8. Shana, Beatrix says she would be honored to have a shelter cat named in her honor. She is fabulous in every way except when she gets that look in her eyes that's similar to Agnes' "Crazy Eyes" after which you may find her on the top shelf of the very high bookshelves threatening to push stuff off. It's a dilute tortie thing, I'm told.
My dad is so tickled to be an internet star! Thanks everyone!

  9. I can only echo the last comment - Anne, indeed, your family is so representative of what makes this site so special.
Thank you for sharing such a delightful picture and story! Made my day! Special skritches to Beatrix!

  10. OMG, anne!

Your Beatrix looks just like my Annie!!!! Annie is also amazingly soft - truly a petter's dream. So cool that we have "twins."

How incredibly sweet that Beatrix is making sure Papa gets tucked in with love every night! Give them both a hug for me.

And I'll second Anon - you are a bright spot in this community!!

    Hugs, Lisa

  11. That's such a great picture. I've got one of my grandfather, who passed away about 4 years ago, feeding ice cream to my cat Pearl, whom I also lost, about 1-1/2 years ago. Pop would sit and talk to them and kept them such company!

    Purry Hugs, Robin

P.S. I finally posted Mr. Oliver and Ms. Minnie on the IBKC Fan site!

  12. Anne B - I can vouch for the dilute tortie theory. My two sister girls are completely wack-a-doodle. Like no other kitties I've had. Dilute torties both, I wouldn't trade them for all the world.

  13. This is my first comment on IBKC, though I've been reading faithfully for a while!
This post moved me to comment, because I wanted to reflect on the wonderful relationships humans can build with non-human animals.
I was thinking about this very phenomenon after viewing the video of Christian the lion and his caretakers.
Pets are such soothing, healing, uplifting forces in the lives of the elderly, the downtrodden, the marginalized, and even us "regular" folks. We must always remember to treat them with kindness and to advocate for their ethical treatment.
    Thanks for all you do!

  15. I can only second, third and fourth everything wonderful that has been said about Beatrix & AnneB. I love the picture... it speaks volumes about the love and understanding of animals for their friends.

  16. Yet another reason why I believe animals - especially kitties can really be angels in disguise.

    What a story and picture!

  18. Ditto what Diana said. :-)

That picture is so special it brought tears to my eyes too.

The cat I had before Sam was devoted to my grandmother. So much so that when I moved, I couldn't bring myself to part them...he was a huge orange tom & very protective of my 4' 5" tiny grandmother.

  19. Oh my gracious! Anne B, that is just adorable. What a sweet, sweet bond they must have. Beatrix is a darling, by the way.
