Wiggins: Where are They Now?

Here's a little update on our former fosters, Buster and Susanna Rose!

Hi Laurie,I wanted to write and give you an update on our adorable kitties.Henry (aka Buster Wiggins) and Luna (aka Susanna Rose, aka Luna Bear,aka Looney Tunes) are doing great in our home.

They are both verysweet and love snuggling with each other. Henry is still very curiousand active and loves chasing his toys. It has been a bit hard to keephim off of the counters but we recently started a positivereinforcement training method and he is doing well with it. I love hisdetermination and curiosity. He also turned out to be quite asnuggler! He loves being held and rocked like a baby and sometimesfalls asleep in my arms on his back. I've never had a cat who likes tobe cradled like that so much!

Luna is as calm and relaxed as ever.Henry can get her riled up with his wrestling, but they always playnice together. We've tried letting them sleep with us but Luna likesto lay across our necks or faces, which is a little distracting. :)

We are so glad they are in our home and we often talk about how gladwe are to have both of them together. I've never had two cats at onceand I love watching them groom each other and fall asleep all overeach other in one big kitty pile. We couldn't be happier!!

It Doesn't Get Much Cuter Than This

Mara, mom to Imogene and Marcel Bartlett, just sent me this absolutely adorable picture of the kitties cuddling with her daughter, Lola.

Isn't that just about the cutest sight you've ever seen?

Egads! What a precious little trio.

I always wondered if Imogene's coat would change. If you recall, she was buffy-orange, but had a few stray smokey patches. I thought they might fade as she grew up, but it looks like they still remain, and have maybe even spread a little bit.

Mara and family adore their kittens and say they get sweeter by the day.

I believe it.

Opal in the Snow

As you all probably heard, our little corner of the country got hit with a heap of snow. I just got home from my travels, and fortunately missed all of the mess.

Kami, Opal McGillicuddy's mom, just sent me this adorable picture.

They took Opal out for a brief supervised outing in the snow. She didn't enjoy the cold too much, so after they snapped the picture, she dashed right back into the house and warmed her paws and buns on the heating vent.

SO, yes. I am back. I put a request in for kittens at the shelter, so hopefully we'll be seeing some soon!

A Post from the Road

I am down in Texas for the week, visiting my brother and family, and doing a little touring about. I'm not planning on doing too much posting while I am away, but I wanted to write a quick post and introduce you to Charlene's Texas kin.First, we have her kitty cousin, Cupcake. She's a sweet little Tux, and an excellent biscuit maker.

This is Montgomery Charles, AKA "Monty". He's a very big boy. He loves attention and insists you give it to him.

Last of all, we have Hank. He is the most recent addition to the family. He just wandered into their neighborhood one day, and after working with local Basset rescue, they adopted him.

They are a happy critter family. They've all worked out their boundaries, and live in harmony.

Poor Bored Bean

Earlier today a huge flock of Starlings landed in our yard. I would guess there were at least a hundred. They bounced around and pecked at the grass.

We watched them for a spell, then I pulled up the blinds higher so Bean could have a better look, and they all flew away.

That was the most exciting thing that's happened since the kittens moved out.

Bean is getting bored.

Another Alumni Update!

Angela, mom to our former fosters, Kirby and Freddie Jean Medley (now Eric and Eleanor) , sent us this little update.

And here's what Angela had to say...

Just wanted to swing by and give you a super quick update and a picture. Eric and Eleanor love the Christmas tree...a little too much. They are growing fast, love to carry things in their mouth all around their house (including a package of via coffee that mysteriously disappeared from the kitchen), and they love to play chase. They still think they can fit on their tower together but as you can see by the picture they look ridiculous! Haha.

Thanks so much for the update, Angela! It's so good to see these happy, healthy kittens again!

A Trimble Update!

I just got word from Mel, Bess and Wee Willard's mom, that things are going just great!

They were a little shy the first two days, and spent some time hiding under couch, but now they're settled in, completely comfortable and are roaming all over the house.

They enjoyed exploring (and climbing!) the Christmas tree and as you can see, the doll house Mel's daughters received for Christmas was a huge hit too.

They've been to the vet for their wellness examine, received a round of booster shots, and both got a clean bill of health. Everyone is eating well and pooping well!

Mel and family are so thrilled with the addition to their family, and are thoroughly enjoying their Trimbles.

And we're equally thrilled to know things are going so well!

Thanks for the update, Mel! Please give the kittens some love from all of us!!

Another Day, Another Dog

Each year around holidays we get a visit from our friend Sarah and her pup, Dulcey. In previous years, there have been kittens for Dulcey to meet, but this time, only Bean was here to greet this wiggly one.

Dulcey wanted to play, but Bean didn't seem to be interested at all. Unflappable Bean just watched her wiggle her backend.

And Ducley watched Bean until she realized Bean had no interest in playing with her, and then moved on.

She found herself a kitten toy and we played fetch with her on the living room rug until the toy grew too soggy to touch, and the humans gave up.

She spent the rest of her visit un-stuffing the stuffed toy.

Bean just sat back and took the whole scene in with an expression on her face that read "dogs are weird".

More Trimbles, and What's to Come...

The Trimbles are all settled into their new homes, but I still have a few pictures of them left to share with you. Here's a little collection of photos from the last day the Trimble Tabbies were together.

I know you're all itchin' for a new batch of kittens, but it won't be happening right away. I'm taking a trip in the middle of January, so it doesn't make sense to bring in anymore babies until after I return.

In the meantime, the last of the Trimble pics, some alumni updates, a couple of announcements, and plenty of Bean, of course. OH, and some pictures of Charlene's cousin, Cupcake - I'll be visiting Cupcake and her family in my travels this month.

I treated myself to a new camera last week, which I'm just getting familiar with. I'll be able to take HD movies with the camera, so expect more videos in the future. Bean will be the subject while I learn to use it.

All Gone!

Bess and Wee Willard found a REALLY wonderful family to join, and we're thrilled for all of them.

Their new mom, Mel, sent us a vey nice letter of introduction so it was clear from the start, they could provide a good, loving home for a pair of precious kittens.

For months Mel and her husband, Noah, had been discussing adopting kittens. They wanted the timing to be right, and they wanted to prepare their girls and talk with them about the proper way to handle kittens, and all the responsibilities that come along with them.

I appreciate so much the thought they put into this and all the conversations that were had on this subject.

With the hectic holidays, and a huge family party too, they thought it would be best to wait until things settled down before bringing Bess and Willard home.

So, on Wednesday, we packed their bags, and off went Wee Willard and Bess.

Their new family is loving and devoted and I know the kittens are going to thrive in their care.

We couldn't be happier for them.

Bye-bye Wee Willard and Bess. Be good little kittens. Write often, send photos.

A Monroe Report!!!

Since Monroe left our nest, I sure have been thinking a lot about him. I was so happy when I received an email from Emily, Monroe and Fisher's new mom.

I'm thrilled to report that things are going REALLY great. In fact, better than I ever expected. Read for yourself...

We've named them Miles and Cordelia and they're settling in quite well. Miles spent Monday under the bed, as we figured he would. But yesterday he started coming out and letting us pet him and today he actually came up to me and started purring when I came in the room. He seems to enjoy laying on us, purring, and then licking our noses.

Cordelia is a spitfire. She plays, eats, and occasionally passes out for a few minutes and then gets up and plays some more. The two of them are getting along just fine and spend a lot of time chasing each other. It's incredibly adorable.

Our older cat, Cleo, is a bit perturbed but seems to be accepting things. We've still got the kittens confined to the guest room, but will probably let them start venturing out into the rest of the house tonight. We'll see how it goes.

Of course we're missing Monroe, but so thrilled the boy is doing so well in his new home with his new little sister!! I'm so proud of our little guy.

A Very Trimble Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas Day with Charlene and our dear little Trimbles. They enjoyed all the presents and their wrappings and spent the morning climbing in boxes and pouncing on and burrowing in piles of paper.

After the Christmas mess was cleaned up, we did our fair share of lounging, and spent the rest of our day draped in kittens.

It was a great way to spend the day. Our Trimbles will departing soon, so it was nice to spend some good, quality time with them.

A Home for Monroe

I usually reserve my adoption tales until after our kittens have left the nest, but with Christmas just days ahead, I thought the timing would be perfect for a good ole' heartwarming story.

I'll just spoil the ending right now and tell you we've found the perfect home for Monroe, and he'll be leaving us right after Christmas. I am overjoyed that a pair of very kind kitty parents found their way to us. Honestly, I couldn't dream up a more perfect home for this boy.

Emily contacted me shortly after I posted THIS post about Monroe. She and Ty were looking for a pair of boy kitties, and wondered if Monroe and Wee Willard were available. Willard was spoken for, but Sue, over at Pitter Pats, had a fluffy little tabby boy named Fisher available. We had talked earlier about possibly pairing them up.

I told Emily about Fisher, and while we were in the middle of our email exchange, I got a call from Sue. She had just returned from picking up Fisher at the vet - it was surgery day.

As it turns out, Fisher ended up getting spayed that day, not neutered. They discovered he was actually a girl! These mistakes happen every now and again at the shelter. Sometimes it's just hard to tell boys from girls when they're tiny and floofy! It was a huge shocker for Sue, and she wrote a great post about it here.

I thought that might put a wrench in our plan, but it didn't. We moved ahead with our meet and greet, and they visited us last night.

I was preparing dinner for the kittens when Emily and Ty arrived. I was hoping to use food to encourage Monroe to stay out in plain sight and not retreat behind or under anything while they were here. He was wise to my plan, and quickly darted under the bed when I went to answer the door.

We chatted for a bit and I managed to persuade Monroe to come out from under bed. I carried him out into the living room, set him down, and the frightened little fellow dashed right back to the bedroom.

A few moments later, Sue arrived with Fisher. Fisher was eager to explore this new place and checked out every inch of the room with her nose to the ground. She discovered the giant basket of kitten toys, and made herself right at home inside of it.

We all chatted a little more, got to know Emily and Ty a little better, and talked a lot about Monroe. The idea of having a kitten like Monroe in their care, did not worry them a bit. They have had special needs cats before, and were willing to do whatever it would take to get little Monroe through his adjustment period.

The more we talked, and the more we got to know them, the more I knew they were JUST the kind of people that Monroe needed.

I went to check on Monroe again, and he was asleep on top of the bed, so I was able to easily scoop him up and bring him back to the living room. I held him and although his eyes were big, and he was a wee scared, Emily and Ty got to see him up close and give him a few pets on the head and scritches on the chin.

We chatted a little more and we watched Fisher run around and do all sorts of goofy kitten things.

Charlene came out to say hello, and Fisher got all growly and silly. Unflappable Bean just looked at her.

And then Emily and Ty they said they wanted to adopt Monroe and Fisher. Of course there were lots of yays and happy tears.

As I mentioned before, I couldn't dream up a more perfect home for Monroe. It's a quiet one. Most evenings there are spent reading books or watching television. Ty works from home, so there's almost always someone around.

Of course Fisher, our little extrovert kitten, will be keeping our little introvert company. Monroe will also have an older woman in his life - they have a very spry, nine year old lady cat.

In addition to all of this, he'll have very kind, calm and patient parents who will cater to his needs, accept his quirks, and help him through his transitional phase. I wish all kitties on this planet could know the love this little fellow is about to receive.

I know once he gets settled in and lets go of his fears, he's going to be such a happy little boy, and will thrive and shine in his surroundings.

And wont he and Fisher (below) make a lovely pair.

A Home for Monroe

The Trimbles were very shy kittens when they moved in with us, and we've worked very hard with them trying to cure them of this behavior. Willard and Bess are doing well, but Monroe just isn't 100% there. He's made a tremendous amount of progress during his stay, but still has his scaredy-cat ways.

At times, he seems completely fine and acts like your typical squirrelly kitten. He's very comfortable when he's in the guest room. It's his space, and he feels secure there.

He likes being up high on things, and is at ease on top of the bed. When he's there, he's happy to receive love and pets and happy to show his affection in return. He's quite cuddly when he feels safe and comfortable.

He's less comfortable in open spaces, like the living and dining room, and if you walk into those rooms and he's playing on the floor, he'll dash under the couch or table.

If he's on the back of a chair or on the couch, you can come right up to him, and he won't retreat. If you're sitting on the couch, he'll join you there for a cuddle.

He's kind of complex, but I think we've figured his patterns out.

I know when he leaves our nest, there will be a big adjustment period for Monroe. We really need to find an adopter that is patient, calm and loving and willing to see him through this phase. The ideal home for him would be a quieter one. I feel one without small children would be best. I think he would enjoy the company of either an adult cat (he adores Charlene) or another kitten.

He's a fabulous little fellow, and worth the wait to get to know.

With all of our kittens, it's important that they're placed in a home that suits them best. Because he's such a sensitive little lad, it's extra, extra important for him.

Trimbles + Tree = Trouble

All of a sudden, the Christmas Tree became interesting to the kittens, and now, they're kind of obsessed with it.

The packages beneath the tree act as steps to the window sill. From the sill, they can reach higher branches, and they can't keep their paws off of it. Mostly they just bat at things, but there were a few birds within their reach that now have a teeth marks in them. Those birds have been moved a little higher up on the tree now.

Everyday, they knock a few ornaments off the tree. The boxes and skirt beneath catch them, so nothing has been broken yet.

I am hoping that soon the tree phase will pass, because monitoring the tree has become a full time job.

I guess Bean thought Wee Willard was in need of a bath, so she pinned him,and licked him until he was soggy and clean. She even turned his ear inside-out in the process.

He put up no struggle. Wee Willard just waited until it was over.

Sparkle Balls and Magnets and Bess, Oh MY!

Let's start of this morning with a couple of photos of lovely Bess. I haven't posted too many pics of her because she's a tricky one to capture. The second you pull out the camera and aim it in her direction, she comes running your way. It's sweet that she likes to be near us, but it makes it nearly impossible to photograph her!

Now, on to business! I have just restocked the IBKC shop with tons of Sparkle Balls! Hopefully there's enough to get us through the holidays. There are Holiday packs in Christmas colors (for naughty or nice cats and kittens) also blue and silver, and an assortment of blue, pink, red, and purple. I know before I had mentioned I would be doing a calendar this year, but I'm sorry, I just haven't had the time to make it happen. I've I'm a firm believer that if it's worth doing once, it's worth doing right, and a very hairy schedule and a long string of deadlines hasn't allowed me the time to do it right. So, it will have to wait until next year.

BUT, there will be an exciting new IBKC product on the market VERY soon.

This fall, the folks at Ipop contacted me to see if I would be interested in working with them to put out some IBKC magnets. You've probably seen their products before - maybe you even have some on your fridge already - they're in gift shops literally around the globe. I love their products and have given many magnet sets as gifts over the years, so I was thrilled when they called.

So, coming to a gift shop near you in mid-January, IBKC magnets!

There will be five sets of 1-inch magnets, four designs in each set. There will also be larger, individual magnets available too.

Just to name a few, here are some of the faces we'll be seeing in the sets: Tressa Lovejoy, Twyla Pickett, Rhoda Darling, Pearla Dearborn, Fergus Mayfield, Benny Musselman, Oliver Furman, Camille Suprenant, and of course, Ms Butterbean.

Just a few days after the Trimbles moved in with us, when they were still living in the wire kennel, Charlene sneaked into their room. The second Monroe noticed her, he came to the front of the cage and started rubbing his little face and body against the bars. It was love at first sight.

He still has a thing for Charlene, and when he sees her, he just gets goofy. He'll drop on the floor and roll over on his back in excitement. He'll start cooing and chirping to get her attention.

I think he's got a bit of a crush on her. See for yourself...

Trimbles? Where Are You?

I hadn't heard a rumble from a Trimble in quite some time so I went investigating. I looked in the usual napping spots - on the bed, under the bed, in the closet - but they were nowhere to be found.

The door to upstairs was open a crack so I headed up the steps and discovered three little pairs of fuzzy triangles popping up from behind the banister.

They all woke up and peeked over the edge.

It's a perfect spot to roost. There's a heating duct near by, so it's always toasty and warm. It's nice and high, so it's an excellent vantage point. They feel safe and warm up there, and it's become their new favorite napping spot.

Now, if the Trimbles go missing, I look here first.

Trimbles 'Round the Tree

Meeting, Greeting, and Tree is Still Standing

The Trimbles were finally released from quarantine. Hooray! They were curious, but cautious as they exited their room and entered the big world. Bean was right there to say hello. You can see for yourself on the video below...

They are kind of timid in this new setting, which is often the case when kittens are released. I think the big open space is a little intimidating for them. They prefer being under things and closer to the walls rather than in the center of the rooms. The sound of a crinkly mylar ball or the waving of a feather wand will quickly draw them out and make them forget any fears they may have, so we've been spending a lot of time playing with them.

I'm happy to report our tree is still standing. The Trimbles did bat at the lower branches, but no one attempted to climb it. They do like playing beneath it, and have had a great time wrestling on and under the tree skirt.

Even though they're being good, I don't think I'll leave them unsupervised in the living room. It only takes a second for a kitten catastrophe to happen.

Please Trimbles, Don't Take Down our Tree.

As soon as they're done eating their breakfast, the Trimbles will be released from quarantine and allowed to meet Bean and roam freely around the main floor of our house.

Our Christmas tree is up now. I am hoping that once they're released, they'll be so distracted by all the other new things in their expanded world that the tree won't be too much of a novelty for them. We will see.

Last year the Bartlets were here when the tree was up. The previous year we had the Finch brothers. All were pretty good about staying out of it, and mostly played under the tree in the skirt and around all the packages.

Our first Christmas with kittens we had the Bouviers and they were completely obsessed with the tree. We spent the better part of our days fishing them out of it. Perhaps you recall THIS post.

I hear rumbling in the kitten room right now, so it sounds like their done eating. I've got the camera ready, so I'll be documenting it all.

Our Little Tradition

As many of you know, since the very beginning of this blog, it has been a tradition to share this picture in my Thanksgiving post. For those of you new to the IBKC, this is Willamena Bouvier. She was part of one of the very first litters we fostered.

This picture kind of put us on the map. It was posted by our friend Meg over at Cute Overload and was the reason why many of our early followers found their way to us. I'm so thankful for that.

I am thankful for so many things this year.

First, I'm thankful for all the kittens we've had the pleasure of knowing and the amazing families that adopted them.

I'm thankful they've been (mostly) healthy kittens, and thankful for the vet staff at the HS that helps us keep them that way.

I'm thankful that Wee Willard has a round belly.

I'm thankful for all the dedicated staff and volunteers at the shelter (at all shelters, actually) that work so hard and give so much to help homeless animals.

I am thankful that I live a life that allows me to foster. I can't imagine our home without our little charges in it.

I am thankful for the generosity of this community and appreciate SO MUCH all that you gave during our fundraiser.

I am thankful for our devoted followers and friends who visit us every day. I hope you know how amazing you are and how much we appreciate your support and kind words. You are a blessing, and you enrich our lives.

We wish a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Things are Looking Up!

Since their return on Friday afternoon, the Trimbles have been improving everyday. They have hearty appetites, they're active and everyone is gaining weight.

Their running freely in the guest bedroom now, and we've been spending as much time as we can hanging out with them. The feather wand is a favorite of all three and they devoted many hours this weekend to chasing it. Bess even made some of those clicking noises cats like to make at birds.

They are definitely spending more time playing and less time sleeping, which is a good sign that they're feeling much better.

The Trimble Report

I dropped by the shelter twice yesterday to check in on the kittens. Nothing had really changed much, and everyone still weighed the same.

Wee Willard was happy to see me and jumped up when I said hello. I took him out of the cage and held him in front of my face to take a good look at the boy. He stretched out his arms and kneaded my nose.

I spent some time holding Monroe and Bess. They were both happy to receive some affection and purred in my arms.

I returned them all to their cage, closed the door and told them "you better eat!" Wee Willard jumped off the box he was perched upon and stuck his nose in the bowl of crunchies. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

When I came back later that day, all of the Trimbles were eating. That's a great sign. Hopefully when I swing by today, they'll be doing the same.

So, no huge improvements, but no set-backs either. I talked to the doctor and she said as soon as they start putting on weight, they can come home.

Fingers crossed that will happen soon.

Well, we've got some sick babies on our hands.

When they moved in with us on Saturday everything seem fine, but Wee Willard's small size did concern me a bit. He was eating well, so I thought he would catch up with the others in time.

Over the next couple day all of their appetites decreased, and the kittens started dropping weight.

So, I took them into the shelter to see the vet, and they'll be staying there for a couple of days until they turn things around, and start gaining weight again.

I visited them yesterday afternoon, and nothing's really changed yet. Hopefully when I visit today, we'll see some improvements.

I'm anxious to get them home, but for now they're where they need to be.

Please don't worry. They'll be fine.

I look forward to their return and hopefully soon "Wee" will be an ironic nickname for Willard.

I have no kitten pictures to share today, so Marcel is here to make your heart happy.

Kinda Shy

The Trimble Tabbies are a little bit on the shy side. Shy kittens like to hide, and we don't want them retreating to the nooks and crannies of the guest bedroom, so I've set up a wire kennel to house them in until they're feeling a little more confident. It works well. They feel safe and I don't have to fish them out from under the furniture.

Several times a day, I put them in the bathroom (aka the exercise yard) so they can run and romp. We join them for playtime and work on building their trust.

They're improving daily - everyone is purring, and they're getting more comfortable with us. They still have their scaredy-cat moments, but they're getting there.

One of the greatest things about fostering kittens is witnessing this transformation.

Meet Wee Willard Trimble. He's the tiniest of the Trimble Tabby Trio, and weighs about a half pound less than the rest.

The Trimbles were a tad shy when I first brought them home, but just in the few hours they've been here, they've improved greatly. I'm sure they'll be comfortable, confident kittens very soon.

Waiting for the Call....

I survived one very crazy week of work, and now that all the floral madness is behind me, it's time for some kittens! I put in the call yesterday afternoon, but there were no youngin's in need of fostering. As soon as there are, we will get some! Kittens are still rolling into the shelter, so the wait won't be too long. There have been several litters in the last couple weeks, but they were all babies with their mamas, and as you all know, we only take in orphans.

Bean is getting restless. I was so distracted with work, she didn't get all of her usual play time. I promised her today that we would play a few rounds of "Hide and go Seek", which is one of her favorite games.

I need to do my best to keep her entertained until kittens arrive because when Bean is bored, she is naughty and can get destructive. She jumps up on the dining room table, or she scratches things she shouldn't, like the living room rug.

I hope the next post I post is all about a fresh litter of kittens. Fingers crossed they arrive today.

We Fostered a Frog

I stopped working with fresh flowers a few years back, but on occasion I'll come out of retirement. I'm working on a party for a client this week and for this event, I had to order several flats of succulent plants.

Craig came downstairs to pay me a visit and discovered this teeny tiny little guy hiding in the plants.

We made him a little terrarium to keep him safe while we figured out what to do next. We weren't positive if he was a Northwest native that came in with the succulents, or if he had traveled from further distances and came in with a box of flowers a from warmer climate. If he wasn't native, we didn't want to sentence him to death, but letting him free outside last night. It's been awfully cold around her lately.

Craig did a little research and we think he's a Pacific Northwest Tree Frog. After doing a little reading, and learning they like to eat slugs, I set him free in our garden.

He's such a cute little guy. It was fun having him as an overnight guest. And now I can add "Frog Fosterer" to my resume.

And speaking of fostering ...

As soon as I get all these flowers out the door, we'll get us some more kittens. It just seemed silly to bring them in during this event. The first few days the kittens are here, they require the most care. I didn't want a situation where I couldn't be 100% available to them, so I decided to wait a couple more days.

Bean's been having fun hanging out with me in the flower studio. She loves checking things out and watching me work. Don't worry, she's not nibbling on anything. With the exception of Bear Grass, she's never been curious about what flowers taste like, she just finds it interesting watch. To be extra safe, anything poisonous is kept out of her reach.

First, let me start off by saying that Charlene truly is more floof than fat. I know it doesn't look that way in this picture, but really, this pose is just horribly unflattering. If you ever find yourself sitting in this position, pray no one near by has a camera in hand.

She weighs around 12 pounds, and yes, there's a little extra in her undercarriage, but I assure you, mostly she's just very hairy.

When I discovered her sitting in this position I fought hard to hold in the laughter. I slowly backed out of the room, grabbed the camera, and came back just in time to get a few shots before she moved and assumed a more dignified pose.

And then I laughed hard for a very long time. And then I uploaded the pictures and laughed harder for an even longer time.

This made Charlene sulky. Cats know when they are being laughed at, and they usually don't like it.

But good golly, how could I not laugh at this.

I'm sorry for the laugh at your expense, Charlene. But I had to share this picture with your friends.

Oliver All Grown Up

As you may recall, Oliver Furman was adopted by Kate, who also adopted Benny and Arthur Musselman. We've seen some updates of Benny and Arthur before, and now I've got a photo of Oliver to share with you.

He really hasn't changed much at all. He still has that sweet little face. All of his spots are in the same place, his eyebrow is still raised. He just looks bigger.

I wonder if he still exhibits the behaviors that earned him the nickname "All-Over".

Thanks for sharing, Kate! It's good to see this little fellow again! Give all the boys some love for us!

A Frost Report!

I've gotten a lot of requests for updates on Mimsey and Nigel, so I asked my mom if she could let us know what the kittens have been up to.

Thanks for the report, Mom. And thanks for the pictures, Dad.

It hardly seems possible that it has almost been one year since we drove to Chicago and picked up these sweet little creatures. Nigel is slightly bigger than Mimsey, but Mimsey outweighs him. Mimsey has the typical skinny tail, while Nigel's tail continues to be Charlene-like floofy. They hardly look like they came from the same litter. It is a good thing that Mimsey has her brother to chase her from one end of the house to the end of the porch, since she needs the exercise, or she might get chubby! Nigel is the playful one. He loves batting around the sparkle balls and squeaky mouse toys, often just entertaining himself. Mimsey chooses to lounge on the porch rocking chairs or the end of our bed. They both are leapers! The other day Nigel jumped on my plant stand, knocking the plant into a crock that was close by. Luckily, neither Nigel nor the plant or crock got harmed! I was not happy!

Dave and I see a huge difference in the amount of affection they show us. Having been dog people for many years, we were used to the affection and adoration that most dogs give their owners. Although Nigel and Mimsey spend a lot of time hanging out together, they do spend more and more time with us, too, often following us from room to room. I think they hear the car come into the driveway, because they both are standing in the hallway by the door when we come in. We don't get the jumping back flips like our dog, Jake, used to do when we returned home, but in their own way, they rub up against our legs and purr as if to tell us, "Glad you're back."

I take them to our vet's office to have their nails clipped. Even though I have cat scissors to do this myself, I haven't quite gotten up the nerve to do it. Those nails sure do grow fast! Two white cats create lots of white hair on everything. I know now I should have done a better job at getting them used to being brushed. They will tolerate it for a short time, but also try to disappear when I show up with a brush. Both Nigel and Mimsey are big-time purrers, especially when they jump up on my lap. To me, this is saying, "You guys are OK!"

I work in a Seattle veterinary clinic. Imagine my delight when one of our regular clients came in today with their newly adopted Kenneth of IBKC fame! I was very excited to see him in person and hoped to document the moment, but Mr. Wiggins, true to his name, could not sit still. Such a little character, he is, and he could not have chosen a more loving and attentive family. The doctor deemed him healthy, happy and cute. He certainly charmed us all!

Just Bean

For the first time, in a very long time, we're kitten-less. Even though Charlene had a great time with Buster and Susanna this past week, I think she's really enjoying our quiet home.

When there are kittens running about, doors are closed to keep them in or out. Charlene likes the freedom to roam about the house whenever and wherever she wants.

She's reclaimed some of her favorite haunts and has been napping in more visible spots. There's no need to retreat under beds if there are no kittens to disturb her nap.

So, for at least a few days, we're going to be kitten-less. The past few litters have over-lapped, and I think Bean has earned a little time off for good behavior.

Not too long of a break, but just a few days.We'll peek into the foster room next week to see if there are any babies in need.

For now, it's just Bean.

Meeting Murray

In her life, Charlene has met just three dogs.

The first was your basic big black dog. Charlene was barely six months old when they met and little Bean cornered her in the kitchen.

The second was a young, friendly Pitbull mix. Charlene kept a safe distance from this wiggly pup, but used her intense glare to clearly communicate that it was her domain.

This weekend she met Murray.

Murray is a mellow Greyhound. He's used to being around cats, he lives with two, so he didn't get the least bit excited when Charlene sauntered into the room.

Charlene was completely unaffected by his presence. She just looked at him, flopped on the floor and took a nap.

And that was that.

Graduation Day

Maggie and Jason recently moved to Tacoma and were getting settled into their new home. Everything was near perfect, but one thing was missing... a little kitty companionship.

Maggie had been following the IBKC for some time, and once the Wiggins were introduced on the blog, she emailed me. I could tell from her letter of introduction that she and Jason were just the kind of folks we like to adopt our kittens to, so we were excited to have them over for a meet and greet.

The meeting went great. All the kittens were especially cute and charming that evening, and I think they could of easily picked any pair. They decided that each would pick their first pick, and Maggie picked Susanna, and Jason picked Buster.

On Sunday, Maggie and Jason came to pick up the kittens.

They had just returned from vacation, and we so excited to be bringing home their babies. And we couldn't be more excited that they were the ones who adopted them.

Moments after I blogged about Kenneth Wiggins being on the market still, I got a message from Larry.

Larry and Lisa were looking for a buddy for their cat, Merlin. Larry also needed some help with his New York Times crossword.

So, on Sunday, Larry and Lisa made their way to Tacoma to meet the boy.

Well, it all went splendidly. This good-natured, good-looking, cross-wording lad found himself a place in their wonderful family.

Oh, and Kenneth will be keeping his name. Which makes me happy because Kenneth is SUCH a Kenneth.

There were also whisperings about a blog. Should that happen, you'll be the first to know.

It Was Meant to Be

A few years ago, a local TV station did a little feature on the IBKC on a magazine program. Every now and again they re-air the clip, which is always great, because it always means more local people finding their way to the blog.

A week or so ago, Kevin and Michael were talking, and Kevin suggested they should get a little kitten friend for their cat, Sweet Pea. Shortly after these words left his mouth, the IBKC clip came on TV.

It was a funny coincidence that this segment should air just then. Michael, who is a firm believer of signs, took this cue and she paid a visit to the IBKC where she promptly fell in love with a certain little Tortie girl.

Kevin emailed me to see if we had any kittens available. At that time Buster and Susannah Rose were spoken for, and I thought Kenneth had found his home too, so I told him Tilda was the only available kitten.

Perfect. She was the one they had their eyes on.

They came down to meet her last week and were completely enchanted the second they met the girl. Tilda loved them instantly, too. She purred, and purred and rolled around happily in their laps. It was so clear she was completely comfortable with them, and she was meant to be theirs.

On Sunday, a very excited Kevin and Michael returned to pick up their little girl. Miss Tortellini was all suited-up in her new collar and tag, and was set to go.

Buster was obsessed with Tilda's new accessories, which made it difficult to take her graduation photos. That's Buster. Always such a curious little boy.

The paperwork was filled out, we said our goodbyes, and off went the little family.

I couldn't be happier for Tilda, Kevin and Michael.

They were meant to be together.

Through a series of links, Elaine and Ed found their way to the Humane Society website where they saw Victoria and Cheryl. From there, they came to the IBKC, read all about the girls, and knew they would be the perfect kittens for them.

I knew the second I read Elaine's email that she and her husband Ed would be the perfect parents for these two. She just said all the right things and sounded so very, very nice. We spoke on the phone the next morning and had a good, long conversation and yep, she was very, very nice.

Ed and Elaine are the kind of people who love their kittens like they are their own children and THOSE are the kind of people we always like to adopt to.

So even though it took a while for them to get here, they were worth the wait.

I've had lots of email exchanges with Ed and Elaine and it sounds like the girls are doing really great. They're having fun exploring their new home together and are enjoying the giant cat tower placed in front of the window overlooking the lake. It's a great view and an excellent place to watch the wildlife. They are getting to know their new parents and already are giving them lots of love and many purrs.

I know I've said this before, and I'll say it again, but I am so grateful for the wonderful people that find their way to us and adopt our kittens. Knowing our babes are going to homes like this where they'll be given all the love these special little beings deserve, is what makes it bearable to part with them.

We are so, so lucky.

And so are these kittens.

And so are Ed and Elaine.

Tea Time!!

This year's Tea with The Bean was an international affair. Our guests Stevie and Kara came all the way from Vancouver and Toronto, Canada to spend the afternoon with us!

They had a great story to share about being questioned by customs while coming over the border. Imagine having to explain that you were coming to the US just for the day to have lunch with a cat you met on the internet. I'm sure the customs agent had a good chuckle over that one!

Cheryl and Victoria were sitting in the front window and Charlene was napping on one of the pink chairs when Stevie and Kara arrived. After introductions were made, we played with the kittens and Charlene for a while before sitting down for lunch.

Each place setting had a name card with one of the Batsell's photograph. Our guests received a pack of kitty cards and sparkle balls too. The package was trimmed with a Kitty Wigs pin.

Our centerpiece was a vaseful of sparkle balls and paper flowers. The tiny telephones from our fundraising set were placed on the table too.

Our lunch was completely vegan. We had an edamame salad with roasted corn and tomatoes, a citrus spinach salad with figs, roasted asparagus, fruit salad with a lemon and ginger dressing and mint iced tea.

We lunched and chatted and cuddled the kittens some more before heading over to the shelter for our tour.

The Humane Society van was parked outside, so Stevie (left) and Kara (right) posed for a picture in front of it. There's our Charlene in the middle, larger than life!

Marguerite, Director of Development, met us inside for our tour. We started with the cattery, then moved on to vet treatment, Butterbean Quarantine, and then the foster room. You'll never guess who was there.

"Kisses" the kitten!!!

Kisses was all ready for adoption so her mom Katherine, who runs the foster room, brought her into the shelter that day with hopes of finding her a perfect home. Later that day she found that perfect home!

We met a few staff members, volunteers, and even some dogs. It was fun and informative and the HS really rolled out the red carpet for our guests.

Afterwards, we headed back home to find Ed, Cheryl and Victoria's Pa, waiting on our porch! We weren't expecting him until later that afternoon for their adoption, but traffic was kind, and his journey was a little shorter than he anticipated, so he arrived early.

Stevie and Kara entertained the kittens and Charlene while we completed the paper work.

Once we were done, we loaded up the girls, said our good-byes and helped Ed out to his truck.

It actually worked out well having Ed arrive early because it gave Stevie and Kara a little more "behind the scenes" than we originally planned - they got to witness the adoption!

Off the kittens went and we headed back inside and had dessert - a super delicious chocolate cake made by my friend Sarah (you know her as Sarah in T-Town in the comment section).

Next, Bean opened the gifts. Inside were lots of awesome cat toys and a feather wand too. Of course, the tissue, ribbon and bag were just as exciting as what was inside !

We chatted a little longer and then said goodbye to our wonderful guests. It was a really great day!

Thank you so much Stevie and Kara for coming to see us! We appreciate your generous winning bid and were so impressed you traveled so far to spend an afternoon with us!

Now, I know you're all itching to hear about the wonderful people that adopted the girls, but I think I'm going to have to write that up in a second entry. It's a long tale worthy of it's own post on the blog. So please stay tuned for that!

What a Day, What a Day!

Yesterday we hosted our "Tea with The Bean" AND we said goodbye to dear little Cheryl and Victoria. It was a quite a day, and we're all pretty exhausted.

I've got lots of photos to share, and a very long story to tell, but I'm stepping out of town for a couple of days so I'm sorry, it's going to have to wait.

I'll be back Wednesday with the full report.

Our friend Alison, who was last year's Tea with The Bean winner, was in Seattle for a visit. The friend she was visiting lives next door to IBKC alum Teddy and Curtis Furman, so lucky Alison got a chance to say hello to the boys.

She said they were both wonderful, loving cats. Their mom, Judy, told Allison that she's never known cats as warm and friendly cat as these two. They were such sweet little boys, so I'm not surprised at all to hear this.

Alison sent along a few pictures we could all see how lovely these boys are today.

I'm sorry. But I don't know what's taking your family so long to get here. They're out there somewhere.

And I'm sure they're extra special, just like you. Maybe they don't know they need you yet. But they're out there. I promise.

Or maybe they feel the timing isn't quite right. But it is. You're ready.

So you special people, please let us know you're on your way.

Until you get here, we're happy to keep this precious pair company.

But hurry, please. They're excited to meet you and get started on their new life.
