Let the FUN Begin!!!

Finally, it's here!!  Today we officially kick off FUNdraising season!!   Team Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, for the eighth year in a row, is participating in Dog-A-Thon, The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County's fundraising walk for homeless pets. And even though it's called "DOG"-A-Thon, because we're all about the cats, all of the money we raise goes directly towards helping our feline friends. EVERY single penny!

The walk happens on Saturday, July 23rd, and that's when our fundraising efforts wind down. We encourage you to join us on that day at Ft Steilacoom park. Wylla will be there! We would love to see your faces, and have your support that day as we proudly walk the walk!

For those of you who are new to the blog, let me tell you, it's a really exciting time of year at the IBKC.  During the next two weeks, we will all work very hard raising funds for our shelter and we will have lots of fun doing it.  We will talk about all of the positive and wonderful things the Humane Society is doing. You'll hear lots of feel-good stories about the cats we have helped.

Each day, there are lots of extra posts and pictures, fun things, and many surprises. We try hard to make sure you're entertained while we pester you for money!  We like this all to be as painless as possible and keep it very light and fun.

During this season, you'll see the whole IBKC community rise to support our shelter.  You'll witness lots of very kind and generous people in action.  You'll cheer when we meet our many matching donation challenges.  It will make you feel warm and fuzzy and you might just even cry a few happy tears. I know I always cry AT LEAST once a day during the FUNdraiser. At least.

You'll see magic happen. Your heart will sing. You will click "refresh" many times.  It can be a bit of a nail-biter, but it is always FUN and always positive.

At the end of it all, we will have raised squillions of dollars to help cats and kittens,  and we will proudly walk the walk.

This year, I've set the goal at $100,000.  It's a tremendous amount, especially when you consider our season is a short one this year, but I have so much faith in our community, and I know we can do it. We've done it before and we can do it again!

I just know we can!

But it's going to take some work to do it  It's a lofty goal,  but we can do it. I just means that there's no time to procrastinate, and we will have to push extra, extra hard every single day.

We have a long history of meeting  (and exceeding)  the goals we set.  Every single fundraiser we have managed to do it -- this year will be no exception!

Our Humane Society has done some incredible things for the cats and kittens with the money we've raised.  With our help, they were able to complete the Charlene Butterbean Quarantine room in 2010.

In 2011, we funded the "Petunia Louise Community Cat Room",  a large, glass-walled enclosure with climbing trees, privacy boxes, and lots of soft places for cats to sleep. Showcasing the cats in this  home-like setting is proving to be very attractive to adopters, and the kitties and cats residing in this room don’t usually stay long!

Last year, thanks to the many generous donations from the IBKC community, they were able to complete the "Fungalo Bungalo", a room for treating cats and kittens with ringworm.  Many cats and kittens have been able to make a full recovery here and get adopted thanks to the existence of this room.

We've helped fund the foster program, adoption programs, Backyard Buddies and Barnyard Cats, the Cinderella Program (which helps low-income families get their cats fixed) and many more awesome programs at the shelter.

We've helped them make improvements to the facility so cats and kittens have more comfortable stays while they wait for their forever families.

We've helped the shelter fix and vaccinate the feral and free-roaming cats of our community, too.

Our money has helped fill bellies with nutritious food and provide outstanding medical care for special needs cats, tiny kittens, adult and senior cats, too!

They've put our donations to good use, and we've seen so many positive changes happen at the shelter   because of this community. It makes me feel so good because when we pooled all of our donations together, WE provided them with the resources to make such wonderful things happen. We help them help more cats!  I am SO PROUD of US!

Let me tell you a little bit about what's to come this FUNdraising season:

We'll have lots of fun auctions, which will be kicking off today. We'll start with the naming rights auctions first.  I also have a very lovely cat-themed quilt that a couple of special people made just for this occasion -- I am so excited to reveal it!   We'll also have another watercolor painting from Craig, and a few other special items which I'll share more about later.

We will be auctioning off the always popular "Tea with the Bean" --- your opportunity to have lunch with us at IBKC headquarters, meet Charlene, Wylla, and kittens.  The tea has been a huge success over the years, so we just have to do it again!  Even if you don't toss your hat in the ring, it's fun to watch the bidding frenzy!

We will have MANY awesome matching donation challenges thanks to some really generous folks.  There's still room on the schedule for more, so if you would like to offer up a match, please send me an email and we can discuss the details.

We'll have days dedicated to some of your favorite programs and causes - like the Senior Cat Medical Fund.  It's a great way to give and have your money go to directly towards something you really care about.

Just you wait, my friends! I've got so much planned for the next couple of weeks.  There's going to be LOTS of fun and many surprises - quite possibly the funnest FUNdraiser yet!!! And with our little volunteers, this might be the cutest FUNdraiser, EVER!

We wanted to have a really awesome first day,  so we're staring this show with a huge $5000 matching donation challenge.  Our Awesome Anonymous Donor is back this year, and she will be matching every single dollar we donate today until we reach the $5000 cap.   I know it's a big challenge to meet, but in order to hit our big goal,  we're going to have to keep things going a pretty good clip.  It's going to take big matches like this to get us there!

To jump in on this match, get your dollars doubled by our donor, and make a tax-deductible donation to our campaign, please visit our First Giving page.  This matching donation challenge ends at 9:00 PM (Pacific Time) tonight.

Thank you Awesome Anonymous Donor for this very generous match to start the ball rolling!

Our shelter has provided us with so many wonderful kittens over the years. These kittens have made us smile, they've brightened many days, they've warmed our hearts.  Here's our chance to give something back  - we can honor all those itty-bitty kitties and say "thanks" by supporting the organization that gave them their start in life - The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.

Thank you, friends.  It will be an exciting and emotional stretch, and I can hardly wait to see how much we can raise to improve the lives of our precious shelter cats and kittens. We appreciate every dollar you give!  No matter what the size of the donation, it helps because when we put it all together, we make BIG things happen for our little friends.

100 Squillion!  HERE WE COME!!

OK, I'll be back with lots more today!  As I mentioned before, I post a lot during the FUNdriaser, so do stay close!  We've got LOTS of cuteness coming your way!!!

THANK YOU for being here. Thank you for caring.
We love you!!

PS I know that not everyone is in a position to make a donation -  you can always help by spreading the word!  Tweet, Facebook , post and link away!  It doesn't cost a cent, and it helps tremendously!
